  2. I went to St Matthias between 1959 1962 We lived on Cemetery Road,I remember the headmistress Mrs Benson and also Miss Talent,Miss Scholey and Mrs Tasker, for some reason the smell of Hyacinths always remind me of the old school I went to school with Georgina Harrop Susan Batty,Paul Schofield Trevor Davidson and Larry Ibbotson to name a few
  3. There was one in the interchange last night at 18:30 shouting abuse and asking people for 40p......all this with a bottle of wine in his hand

  5. I was in Sheffield last night and expected a breathtaking ring of searchlights as advertised, and the sound of air raid sirens going off,(my family lived on Arundel Street and sat out the original blitz in the cellar on this same night in 1940) Complete let down, very disappointed

  8. I lived on Rotherham Road in the early seventies,in the old georgian cottages now demolished (64 Rotherham Road)there was Axtells shop on the corner run by my brother in laws parents,an abbatoir at the borrom of Station Road on the left, and the Halfway&Holbrook working mens club where the water ski-ing shop is,it was actually featured in an Whitbread Trophy bitter advert on the telly in the 70s a lot of famous acts to be passed through the doors of the old club...Happy memories

  10. Yes I do Denise! I've lived in Mosborough village for the past 40 years how are you?
  11. It would be nice if 'pot on arm' had the other three limbs potted.I for one would pay to see this.
  12. Yes he was!He always had a small diamond shaped enamel badge on his lapel, blue background with a gold S in the middle,he also had it as a sticker on the back window of his car,to this day I have no idea what that was,any ideas folks? Mr Goldstone was Ok it was Mallaband the head you had to watch he always reminded me of a thin Jeremy thorpe.
  13. I lived at 40 Middle Hay View from 1962-1964,went to Rollestone jnr school, which i walked to from age 8 every day, this also including crossing a main road and some minor roads, the only shop then was a round temporary building we called 'The Hut' which was on wasteland in front of the maisonettes,I remember the school very well I was in Mrs Bowlers class who seemed quite elderley then, and moved then to Mr Goldstones class,he sported a handlebar moustache and was ex military i believe(Icould be wrong).Gleadless Valley then was a different planet to what it has now become,we roamed the woods and open spaces without a care in the world out all day only returning grubby but happy before sunset,my mum hated the maisonette as we were the end one next to the chute where people disposed of their rubbish and the flies and smell in the summer were awful, and so we moved in 1964 to the brand new flats at Leverton gardens at the bottom of the moor.
  14. Ecclesall Road and Broomhill are your best options,I have picked some really good stuff from both these sites, you just need to be prepared to have a good Rummage about, the Oxfam shop at Broomhill used to be realy good but on the pricey side.
