I'm not sure if this is a troll but can you honestly not see how a lot of people could end up with this kind of life? How about a girl sexually abused all her life by various 'stepdads' who finally ran away from home at fourteen and drinks to forget cos it's the only way she can? How about an ex-service person suffering PTSD given no support after leaving the forces. Having never managed to get another job, ending up on the streets and developing addictions to cope with mental illness? How about someone who simply suffers a bad breakup? Not a lot of savings and no family/support network. Misses a few shifts at work, gets the sack. Can't afford the rent. Ends up on the streets within a month or so. Are you seriously saying you can't empathise with any of these situations?

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I don't expect you to repeat what she said, for several reasons, but I do find it quite interesting. I can only think of two racial epithets that describe someone of the Jewish faith, and I couldn't imagine someone in Sheffield with this obvious ignorance to know either of them. Unless she was from down south, or one of the bigger northern cities where there is a well-established Jewish community, e.g. Manchester.

I love it when southerners mention Yorkshire, and they'll try to do a generic northern accent, mention whippets, or "workin' darn't pit". Then I think, it's all well and good having a go, but what are, for example, Bedfordshire, Suffolk known for? At least there's a strong identity in Yorkshire! Seriously, like, Shropshire, Herefordshire or summet? I have literally no idea.

I do think these parents need to take more responsibility but I'm sure it's not a case of "giving them the password". I assume a lot of people would leave themselves signed in to their Google/Apple accounts. I'm pretty sure the same thing would be possible on the games on SKY, or on a lot of online desktop games/apps. I guess if you've got kids then you can forget ever leaving yourself logged into anything again! Bad times.

The term 'antisocial behaviour' is a relatively recent one and could potentially be used to make scapegoats out of groups of people doing things that other groups of people just don't like. What if some people had a problem with the use of Sheffield Forum? To me, using a fairly anonymous message board is slightly less social than gathering together in the local community. I really don't see what problem these people are causing by sitting there, other than apparent jealousy caused by the fact that they are afforded the opportunity to socialise when other people are working. That's a good point. I can't ever imagine vases would die out. Perhaps some types of ornaments can live forever. I suppose a vase does have a practical use, so this has an immediate advantage over ladies and donkeys that just serve an aesthetic (to some people) purpose.

Can I ask how old you are? I was having a discussion with my Grandma the other day about ornaments. I think they won't exist in 20 years. My generation (20s/30s) don't have them, and the generations that do (50+) will steadily die out. My Grandma said she thought that there'd always be people that want ornaments. I say our generation's version of 'ornaments' would be something brought back from a trip to South/East/South East Asia, but never the traditional British ornament. What will happen to all the hard-working British ornament makers?!

Hi, You bring up some good points, but I'd like to ask you about the above. If a driver gets back to the depot early, do they get more of a break? The reason I ask is that I often used to experience buses leaving their designated stops early, and couldn't think of any reason for this. I can understand buses being late from time to time, but there is absolutely no excuse for being early. In your experience, can you imagine that some drivers may set off early from a stop, anticipating delays further along the route that may intrude in their break time? If so then this policy needs changing, as it's one of the most infuriating aspects of commuting, and one of the reasons why I now choose to use the train every time, even though it costs more and requires more walking. I will add that I no longer live in Sheffield, but have seen early buses in many cities. Thanks, Andy

Thanks for all you replies, guys! I guess there are a lot of enthusiastic real ale fans on Sheffield Forum! After a bit more research based on some of the suggestions here, I stumbled across a guide called The Penistone Line Pub Trail. There are some pictures here: http://www.qype.co.uk/place/148417-The-Penistone-line-pub-trail-Sheffield but, unfortunately, it seems to no longer exist. Has anyone got any more information on this guide? Their website is no longer available and the phone number supplied (01709 515151) is just Travel South Yorkshire. If I can't get a copy of this then I can probably piece most of it together from the pictures/phone numbers on that site. So, I have a more detailed plan now I think. Get the train to Huddersfield and work back to Sheffield on the Penistone Line! Looks pretty good to me!
