  1. There is no winning, only losing. Losing Dempseys would be a huge loss. No other competitor has ever "Won". QJ will only pick up some of Dempseys pre trade to later drinking and offer an alternative once in the area to break up the night. New businesses ideally need to create new customers, not just split the available customer base. At the moment that is all that will happen.
  2. 1 post in April 2017, then 4 today. One of which is obviously an advert. I was born a day that ends in Y, it wasn't yesterday.
  3. Carver St has the highest murder rate of any in Sheffield from memory! In 2017 over 800 crimes recorded on West St.....
  4. Take a look around casual dining is suffering! There are lots of articles all around..... Gaucho and Cau in to administration yesterday. Jamie Olivers closing sites GBK closing sites Prezzo closing 100 sites Byron closing sites Carluccios closing sites Strada closing sites Pizza express closing sites. Saturation of options. Rising costs including ingredients, rents and national living wage. Along with the pressure of rising business rates. Hundreds of millions poured in from Private equity firms from 2011 on, but the return just wasn't what they expected as things changed. Take Pizza Express it was sold for £900 million but only made profit of 40 million last year, they aren't going to wait 22 years to get their cash back! "Stefan Chomka, the editor of Restaurant magazine, says: “There are several things in play that, when they come together, is like a house of cards collapsing. First, there’s the oversaturation. Byron expanded rapidly, Pizza Express kept adding, [as did] Nando’s and Zizzi. There has been huge growth in the casual dining market and there are just too many restaurants. Simultaneously, food costs, staff costs, rents and business rates have all gone up. If you’re operating 100 sites, your margins are being squeezed and squeezed. And times are tough. Even if they spend a little more when they do, people are eating out less. So there are greater costs, more competition, fewer people and, consequently, the **** is hitting the fan.”
  5. This will still count for Wednesday! But no, it will be on almost all our screens, including the HD projector drop down.....
  6. The page with no posts and what looks like it will be spam? Great job.
  7. Grosvenor Casino Queens road. Partly because I work for them, but also as it won't be ridiculously busy and you will be able to get a drink without waiting 30 minutes!
  8. OMG to close......No surprise. I'm amazed it lasted as long as it did to be fair. No atmosphere, cliquey staff, same 20 faces every week...... OMG Sheffield ********************Customer announcement ***************** We are moving!! It has been on the cards for a while and we have finally decided to make it happen!!! We are moving location because we are unable to offer you the amazing nightlife experience that we do in other cities. We have been toying with the idea of making the reasons why public or not, but ***** it why not. Within the very first few weeks of opening, we were ascended on by Sheffield City Council planning department because of a complaint they received about us breaking the planning consent for the building. (I would like to point out we don't know if they did or did not have a complaint as they are kept confidential). The complaint was that we were operating a nightclub on an A4 (late bar) consent. Sheffield's own council website states a definition of a nightclub as a venue that doesn't contribute to the daytime economy. We are one of the ONLY venues in the area that opens in the day, and we have the same consent as 90% of the others. We were then reported, and almost prosecuted, for banners that had been there for years. They were fine for the other venues before us? What's the difference now except for the fact it's a gay venue? We will never know… This has had a massive impact on the building model as we have felt the need to keep our head under the radar in the fear of looking too much like a "nightclub ". This has also stopped us from putting in the much valued 7 am licence which is greatly valued by our community in the area. It is important to say we are not pointing our fingers at the council, they may have had a complaint from a "concerned neighbour" but it's more likely to be someone who doesn't like the idea of what we stand for and the LGBT nightlife we were trying to expand within Sheffield. It's not the end, we have not been beaten, we already have our eyes on sites with the late license we need, giving us the freedom to offer you our true amazing experience. Like and follow us to keep up with all the current information. Our last day at this site will be Saturday the 30th of June. So let’s throw a massive party and give the venue a good seeing off !! We hope we'll carry on seeing you all in the next stage of our life in Sheffield
  9. If you are flexible on times, why not look at BlaBlaCar? https://www.blablacar.co.uk/ Ridesharing, have used it quite a lot as the driver. I get some petrol contribution and you get a ride there.....
  10. In todays throw away society you may well be cheaper to just get a new one. AO are circa ÂŁ180 to start. By the time your repair person comes for ÂŁ50 and repairs it for ÂŁ??. Or it can't be fixed and you are then just down another ÂŁ50! Might as well get a new one....
  11. It's pretty simple to be fair. There is very little to no major funding for the event. Sheffield people do not like to pay for things Hence they have never been able to build it to the point of recruiting major acts, the usual draw for a gay pride event. Instead the current committee is a group of pretty left wing, all inclusive, free for all encouraging people. Therefore instead of the usual Gay pride weekend drinking based events, it is much more family friendly with a hint of anarchy left tendencies ! It is also held in a park circa 1.5 miles from the city centre. Where as Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester etc are all city events based in their "Gay quarters". They have even more funding issues this year and are already asking people that can afford to, to contribute. So it can be kept as "free for all". Which really doesn't make a lot of sense as it does actually mean that those that can afford to, are paying for those who can't or don't want to.
  12. OMG is now free, dropped all weekend door charges. "You spoke, we listened" was their headline. I might suggest that they listened and did nothing for 2 years, and now it is so bad they have to listen..... Tick tock. Just proves that Sheffield is a different beast to a lot of other cities as they seem to do OK in Bristol and Plymouth at least.
  13. Correct, unless it has been sold in the last few weeks. Has been Punch for ages. Heineken did buy a batch, but Punch oversaw the refurb for sure, not sure this was one Heineken picked up. http://theabbeysheffield.co.uk/legal/ Website Terms of Use Last updated: 28 September 2016 Website Operator: Punch ( “we” or “us” or “our”). 14. Its once a month, on a Friday, in the same building, in the same room. Its Climax by a new name.
  15. It will be interesting to see how it does. Fuel failed OMG Same 20 customers, in my opinion not doing well XES Closed after many years, probably by city centre late licencing Other various Attercliffe venues, closed. Sanctuary Closed (Now straight) Affinity Closed Lions Closed (Now straight) Dempseys has a niche market that it does well catering for, long serving and loyal staff base and people like it no matter what the discussion is around those people who don't. Look at Climax, once a month. Used to be a highlight that was packed, again, now much quieter and nothing compared to what it was around 2006-10. I have said this a thousand times before, but i will say it again. Sheffield is inclusive. The LGBT community have no issues at Tank, Code, Corp, Crystal, or wherever else they choose to go. My experience says a lot of people will go out earlier to these places and then make Dempseys their late stop from 12am on. The creation of a Social Media generation, supported by Apps such as Tinder and Grindr means you are not limited to where you can go to meet guys anymore, its not the 80's when gays ran personal ads in a newspaper! The key here is that the new business has to create more business and not just split the business that is already here. Many have tried to take Dempseys on for their trade, and lost. Lord Brexit is right about Canal St, other than Gay Pride weekend it is dire. Another place that now has multiple closings and changes of ownership.
  16. Has a lease sign up, and as mentioned loads of trades have been in there. Looks like it must be getting a decent enough refurb. Went in last year when i first moved to the area, it was almost comically stereotypical. Dated, old toilets, generally run down, regulars post work crowd only. To be fair it has plenty of competition in a worse position, and I can't see anyone rushing to take it on.
  17. As they presumably already have a similar agreement for the Forum and Devonshire Green I am assuming they have some knowledge of this...Good business to expand your business footprint x2 at such a low cost.
  18. At ÂŁ550 you would be better paying it and then just protecting your bonus next renewal.
  19. Join their loyalty scheme app and every 5th stay is free....
  20. Think it went back to managed. Not taking what they thought it would. They will be trying to get a tenant for it to lease it back out you can bet.....
  21. If you score 4/5 and score well structurally they come less often. I have worked places that have had a 5 year gap between visits. They tend to concentrate, as you would expect on the lower scores bringing the lower end up as opposed to repeat visiting places that have been shown as OK. Scoring 5 is not difficult, if anyone needs to know how I will happily pass on my knowledge for a small fee My job is in food and of the 35 I oversee we have only one that has 4 stars, all the rest were 5 or Scottish equivalent. As mentioned structure and systems score highly so if they are OK you score well. Maybe go back and edit the original post as not everyone will read the full thread.....
  22. Late licencing killed it. Look back to 2005 when people queued as far as the post office just to get in. A bar that was 15m long, 6 deep from 11-3. With the bulk of them eating drinking and then going downstairs to play. As soon as every bar and pub on Ecclesall rd got either 1/2/3am licences it died on its feet. It went from 6 deep, to 6 people. Hence the refurb that basically removed the bar and put the restaurant upstairs. Nobody it seemed was going to pay for taxis or walk, to pay a casino premium price for drinks when the bars they were in staying open later. As for moving the licence I haven't heard of this. They could move it to Owlerton and double their slot machines (only 20 per licence). Sheffield Grosvenor has 2 licences in the same building, that's why it has more slots. The development in Manchester is true though, but not due to be complete for 2 years. There is also even more competition there, not a market that would be attractive competing again with Grosvenor and Genting that are worth considerably more.
  23. As there are only 2 this is pretty easy. They were busy. Dempseys more so.
  24. Once again Grosvenor Casino Sheffield will be supporting this event......20th December at Niagara H'boro. The FB page is now here...https://www.facebook.com/homealonefundraising/ GoFundMe ...https://www.gofundme.com/home-alone
