  2. you'd be surprised these days. Most horses in the market now are around this price range. And most ate pretty decent. The riding school i go to have all their horses for sale. As these horses are all used for lessons for novices and upwards, these horses would be ideal for a first horse for the your little nervous rider. And i think a few are in your price range. Just type grenoside equestrian in google and you'll find their website. You could also ask at the place where she rides and see if theyre willing to part with any
  3. Can confirm its an armed robbery. More information here. Police are appealing for witnesses http://www.southyorks.police.uk/node/1915
  4. yeah, i totally understand as they are very grounded animals. but once she's out of the cage and running around the house, shes very nervy and doesn't like her head being touched and still flinches when she's being stroked. she'd much rather try and get back in her cage or try and squeeze behind the sofa away from us. i've started to give her a lots of attention, offering her yummy carrots while stroking her "sensitive areas" i'm starting to see some progress which i'm happy about (:
  5. Ah, i had a feeling that would be the case nox. I wasnt the one who purchased her, but when i looked at pictures of the place on the graves park website, i saw how overrun the enclosures were with rabbits and now it looks obvious theres very little hands on attention involved. I will carry on with what i'm doing, but literally start from basics by starting in the cage before taking her out. We're thinking about getting another, but not for a while so hopefully she'll be more perky as well! And teeny, we wanted to go with one closer to home as we dont have our own car, its called abbeymoor vets on halifax road. Its said to be specialised with small animals but nothing has been booked yet so if you have any recommendations around the sheffield 5 area, or if you know of abbeymoor, please let me know
  6. I have a female rabbit who is around 20 weeks old. We got her from graves park when she was around 8 weeks old. Shes incredibly nervous and she kicks ferociously when we try to pick her up and i'm worrying she may hurt her back. Since we got her, we've been letting her out for around half an hour everyday, but picking her up without her almost injuring herself and even trying to get her used to me is getting increasingly difficult. She was originally bought for my younger siblings (11 and 3) but they are too scared to hold her or even stroke her as she is so panicky and Shes due for her first vet appointment for a claw trim soon and will also be spayed so i would like her to be as calm as possible, but i'm not surr that it will be safe to do so with how afraid and timid she is now. I'm aware she is young and they are quite boistrous and excitable, but she doesnt seem to be improving with all the time i am spending with her 1 to 1 Any advice would be great. Thanks
  7. No, its not me. I just came across it

  9. yeah, the 73 got cancelled quite a while back
  10. i'd love a part loan over the summer. around 14.2 - 15.2 would be perfect. i dont drive so it'd help if the stables are easy to get access to and in sheffield i'm quite small, so nothing too strong to ride or bolshy on the ground. will be available most days to suit. don't mind a hacker. PM if you have anything suitable
  11. i go to grenoside equestrian centre. I believe its £16 for a group or £18 for private. Both are for 30 mins. think theres also a 45 minute option as well, but i dont know the prices for those, sorry. really good, friendly. BHS approved and they're also a pony club branch so you can get your 12yr old involved hands on as well with pony club lessons http://www.grenoside-equestrian.co.uk/ no: 0114 2402548
  12. Wanting to purchase in the next 2 weeks or so. preferably males and on the tame side. ideally want a hairless pair but, would be happy to have a hairless and normal pairing if you have any single babies from odd numbered litters. PM if you have anything thanks

  16. Rehome or Sale? sale Reason for Rehome / Sale - university. Sale Amount - £80ono Location- Sheffield 5 Type of bird to Rehome / Sell - Cockatiel With or Without Cage? - can supply cage if needed Is the bird hand tame - semi tame. read description below for more details. Age & Sex - 2 years. Proven female. Colour - White-face cinnamon Live in / out - N/A Any Current or Historical Health Issues - No Temperament - Timid nature. can be easily scared. needs a patient and loving home Any special knowledge - no General Information you can share - VERY sad sale, so need a loving, kind home PHOTOS HERE - http://s30.photobucket.com/albums/c327/adelledaley/butters/?albumview=slideshow for sale is a proven female cockatiel, Butters. she'll be around 2 years old now. i would describe her as semi-tame as she is very timid and fast movements can easily scare her and make her defensive. however she has never bitten me unless i am picking her up (which she highly dislikes) she's a very beautiful bird. and loves having her head stroked and is typical of the gender by being quite reserved and less "squawky". however i have never got her to step up on my hand. though she is a very fast learner and would happily do this if time and patience was given. i have clicker trained with her in the past. though she would need re-training regularly due to her timid nature. would like her to go to a home with no other animals and with more mature children only due to her personality and the fact i have never introduced her to other animals before i would also prefer her to go to a home with knowledge of this bird and are aware of the mess they can make. can supply cage and all accessories, plus food, toys etc if need be. cannot deliver so will need to be picked up. £80 with cage ono.
  17. I ride at barnes green currently. I find it brilliant. Lovely staff teaching is great. I'm coming along nicely. They have good prices for private lessons (which i do) offer off road hacking too if you just fancy a hack. Did work experience a few years at westwood. lessons are more expensive there. However michael and laura are good instructors. Might be worth checking them both out to see which is best for you
  18. Males are much more playful and vocal and are more likely to learn to talk Females on the other hand are less vocal and most of them never learn to talk. Females also tend to be more aggressive and defensive of their cage/ toys. Also with females you might have to deal with her incubating her empty eggs. Sometimes they lay them during mating season if conditions are good eg, has access to nesting type material or nest box. If you don't know how to deal with it, sometimes it can lead to chronic laying and sometimes death. I'd go with a male, particular if its a childs pet
  19. Oh and no to the wing clipping. Its really unecessary and doesn't contribute or help towards training at all. Its really sad watching them attempting to fly and hurting themselves in the process
  20. You should try clicker training. Its how i trained both my budgie and cockatiel. Start by associating the click with a treat. do this by first using the clicker then rewarding immediately with a treat. Keep doing this until you start to see the bird looking around for the food when you sound the clicker. Once this is successful, you can then begin to target train them. Use an average stick perch and move it towards them. They may react my attacking the stick (this is what we want) immediately reward them with a treat. Keep doing this until they get the jist and before long you can start moving the stick around to various places around the cage and when they hear the clicker, they'll move towards the stick. This is a great way for gaining trust with the bird and is also very simple and easy to do and is a proven way to train a bird without even taking it out of the cage so its perfect for the more timid birds. all you need are the birds favourite treats and a dog/ pet clicker or even a pen with a clicker! Sessions only need to be a couple a day lasting 5 minutes each. http://www.essortment.com/beginning-clicker-training-parrots-22759.html This website gives you lots of information on starting out. Good luck!
  21. Maybe its worth checking this website out. Its quite helpful http://www.star-bits.com/ID.htm
  22. Bought some today actually! Bought mine from Spar at margetson shops
  23. As promised. Sunday's hack was really good. Lots more fun than i thought, despite me only going for my little sister ha. We went on a nice bridleway around the back of the school. Along the way, they taught the kids how to hold reins, steer, walk and even trot! Quite a lot for 30mins. Was so impressed, my little sister is going on another next week and i'm starting private lessons next week. Overall, very impressed
