  1. If it’s mainly TV and radio there are some transmitters that fit into the audio socket which connects to cordless head phones. Many types available on Amazon and I think Argos in a price range of about £50/£100 a set. Some operate on Bluetooth. A relative found these great as they excluded any other sounds (such as his wife telling him to mend the washing machine and do other jobs around the house).
  2. So how does the definition of fascism sit alongside of the actions of a right wing Israeli Government in this day and age. Far right, authoritarian, ultranationalist ideology etc. Once again do not confuse fascism with Anti Semitism.
  3. Does anyone know what he said and how this has been interpreted. Is it yet another case of interpreting criticism of the current right wing Israeli Government and its’ actions as Anti Semitism?

So with 3” foundations and a cement skim it may not last too long.

I am referring to the numerous bunches of flowers etc. left at various favourite places ,benches, roadsides ,lamp posts etc. to commemorate someone. I am not very keen on them as basically they turn to litter within days. Plaques on benches etc I can appreciate and can be interesting and permanent and frequently provide a useful bench paid for by the donor. Its no big deal, but not a custom that I am keen on.
  6. Thanks for the guidelines as you see them but perhaps best left to the Forum moderator. There have been many angry responses on particular threads which polarise opinions. Thats why politics and religion are best avoided with friends. I prefer ongoing feisty discussions rather than some of the playground retorts that kill further sensible discussion. I agree that unjustified personal slurs do not help any argument and that is why a certain contributor got a deserved ban. This thread also evokes strong opinions .There may be posters who could be anti Semitic, but criticism of the actions of Israel in retaliation for the Hamas atrocity in no way defines anti Semitism in my opinion.
  7. That could be taken as a rhetorical question because it is not how the political machines work. Plain sense goes out the window when it’s a question of winning votes and staying in power. Every action is calculated in this way in so called democracies. Dictatorships do not have the same problem.
  8. Is that pronounced Leth-er-ing or Leth-ring up Hack-n-Thorpe way ?
  9. The Tory gravy train is about to come to a shuddering halt so the next few months will see some desperate ,soon to be ex MPs and ministers, looking to boost their income.
  10. The police could start by placing a thin blue line between the opposing factions in the H of C to keep order . Its about about time those baying mobs set an example . Protest marches are an important part of society and at times are the only voice that people have. Just because some disagree with a particular subject for the protest does not require exceptional actions. Did the suffragettes over step the mark in their battles or CND . There is a much wider number of the population who support the Peace Marchers than Muslims.
  11. Seems that my response was part of the cleaning process. So I will repeat that the contribution made by SY football clubs in 2019 amounted to £5.5 million of a total cost to SY police of £48 million. The clubs do not contribute to policing of crowds on the streets . I also questioned whether the Royal Family contributed to the heavy police presence associated with their ventures in public.
  12. Not quite enough said. Best check your facts which are readily available. Clubs do make a contribution . As an example in 2019 SY Police said the cost of policing for all SY Clubs amounted to £48 million of which clubs contributed £5.50 million. I think I am right in saying that clubs opted to employ their own stewards inside the ground rather than pay costs to the police who continue to police on the streets. Multiply this up throughout the Leagues and it dwarfs the cost of policing the Peace marches. I have no idea how much policing the Royal family events might be but I think I know who picks up the tab.
  13. Firstly protest marches on British Streets is very much a domestic issue. Secondly one of the functions of the police is crowd control in many forms. Football crowds,Royal Occasions,Notting HillCarnival in fact any crowd gathering that needs some supervision. The Met face a lot of criticism for their well publicised failure so its handy for them to be able to excuse some of their wider problems.
  14. What comment do you need that should have become obvious to you being a non -nutter? We all have reasons to dislike or perhaps even hate individuals or groups for some reason or other. What is irrational ,but very evident in some is the hatred of a whole nation due to irrational prejudices. Anti Semitism and Islamophobia are two sides of the same coin. To criticise Hamas and its supporters for Oct 7th is no more Islamophobic than criticism of the Israeli Government for the its actions since then are Anti Semitic. Is this another hit and run contribution from yourself or will you expand on your comment?
  15. He has an audience such as yourself and spouts the same tropes as those contained in your post. “Muslims spreading hate every week “ suggesting that in our multicultural society all Muslims spread hate! London police have supervised tens of thousands of marchers and very few arrests or prosecutions have resulted. We don’t need more politicians like Anderson who is a self publicist and looking after his own future in politics. There will always be the likes of him on the periphery of politics. From Labour to Conservative to Reform or as an Independent whilst securing a lucrative radio spot.
  16. I very rarely had to stay for school meals at Junior school I am glad to say and they were delivered in Aluminium containers from some central facility. I can still remember the smell and I have had a life long aversion to Semolina and Rice Pudding from the time that the supervising teacher insisted that I ate a bowlful whilst I was gagging. Much improved meals at my Grammar School where the meals were cooked on the premises and a proper dining area/cafeteria setting
  17. One of our ports of call in around 1967 ish. Started in The Nelson,on to The Travellers and down to The Hermitage and into The Locarno or whatever it was named at the time. Was it Shirley and friends behind the bar in The Travellers? The Gents outside toilet was disgusting with some using the sinks when there was a queue
  18. He has accepted his suspension graciously because he has more chance of being elected as an independent than being a representative of the crashing Conservative Party. Oliver Dowden gave a great demonstration of question evasion and guarded responses to some straightforward questions this morning.
  19. I agree with about half of them.......sometimes😁
  20. But understands the key issue under discussion regarding vaccines. Some people when adults refuse all vaccines. Some babies and minors may never have had the usual vaccines. Some people have had many vaccines but chose not to have the Covid jab for reasons of their own. To talk of antivaxers in recent times usually refers to the Covid vaccines, and the adoption of the term “Pure Bloods” is just an attempt by some to get some moral superiority.
  21. That would literally be stopping a drop in the ocean 😁
  22. He does that a lot and not just on football threads.😉
