Wikipedia Dandelion and burdock - Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dandelion_and_burdock It was originally a type of light mead, but over the years has evolved into the carbonated soft drink commercially available today. 6. Correct on both counts and both poor brews ---------- Post added 02-08-2017 at 21:09 ---------- Used to go in the berni inn by the castle market. Used to ask the waitresses if we could have all the digestive biscuits that people would leave from their cheese and biscuits for the walk home. Sometimes they let us sometimes not. Life was simpler then
  7. Used to go around town, Hillsborough, Gleadless only place we ever had any trouble was a pub opposite Kelvin Flats where we were followed when we left, some idiots said something which we ignored and carried on walking.
  8. Counter argument could be that the Tories have diluted the influence of the unions so much in favour of the employers that workers are in more danger of losing their jobs, in some cases for very little because of it. Zero hours contracts spring to mind as well. I'm sure they wouldn't exist as they do if the unions were stronger

  11. Used to live on Darnall main road opposite the corner shop near the fire station. I went to Whitby road school but left when I was about 6. My Nan lived there for a long time after. Went back a few years ago and could believe how it had changed. I was talking to a bloke at a tyre place near where I live. I was talking to him about Staniforth Road where he had to go for training courses. He told me that they had been warned about walking alone in the area which I thought was sad if true. Remember going up to the Lyric pictures on a Saturday morning to watch Hop a Long Cassidy amongst other. Remember once when a man game and did tricks with a YO YO

  17. An old wiork mate of mine was the brewer at the Frog and Parrot a man by the name of David B Staves. I had moved out of Sheffield by that time so never confirmed it. He had been doing home brew for many years and been very succesful at it producing many a fine drop.
  18. Remember many years ago going into the Berni inn by the Castle Market. Nice steak then quick word with the waitress who would let us pocket the digestive biscuits that people had left from the cheese and biscuits to eat on the way home. Life seemed simpler in them days
  19. Found my first job contract from 1973. I worked in the Labs at the Sheffield Smelting Co. and got £895 per year or around £17 per week. Gave my mum £17 for my board and still managed to save a bit after going out in town 3 nights a week. Mind you a pint was about 1/6 or 7.5p a pint and 25p to get into the top rank.
