  1. Apologies for bumping this thread. The FirstDay is now ÂŁ3.60 apparently. Does this apply all day, or do First still do that thing where it's more expensive if you buy it before 0930? There website doesn't mention anything about it being more expensive early in the morning, but I'm sure I've heard bus drivers mention it recently.
  2. Myself and some friends regularly play English pool at Rileys in Hunter's Bar. However they are putting their (already quite expensive) prices up quite significantly. Is there anywhere in central or south Sheffield that has English pool tables that you can book? I think Abbeydale Snooker Centre only has 1 English pool table which is coin operated. The Common Room is town is American Pool only and we prefer English Pool. Alternatively does anyone know any pubs that have decent number of pool tables? I know the Big Tree in Woodseats has 2, but not sure how busy they get.
  3. It's good that someone is going to be using the building, although I'm not sure about ANOTHER Italian restaurant in Millhouses. There are already two Italian restaurants which are a stones-throw from the Waggon and Horses. Both La Scala and Marco @ Milano's are just a bit further down Abbeydale Road. A business that did Asian cuisine might be more viable for the area.
  4. I went on the Riley's website this morning and only the Hunters Bar club is listed on their 'select a club' drop down box from Sheffield. Sounds like there was a plan to close the other two for good.
  5. La Bistro Pierre in Banner Cross does a Gluten-Free menu http://www.lebistrotpierre.co.uk/food-and-drink/gluten-free Sorry, didn't realise you wanted somewhere at Centretainment, and couldn't delete the post
  6. It's researchers night tomorrow night (Friday). 70 Events going on across the university from 6pm - 9pm. http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/researchersnight/events
  7. This is a petition run by the 38degrees campaigning organisation which you can sign to be sent to the local GPs consortium to ask them to not 'buy' services from private contractors. The government’s plans to privatise and fragment our NHS are starting to take shape across England. In Sheffield doctors are getting together to form a ’Clinical Commissioning Group’ or ’CCG’. This body will make big decisions about what health services will be available to you and your family. Sheffield CCG will be under pressure to do the Government’s dirty-work. But if enough local people sign the petition to Sheffield CCG, we can persuade them to put us first - and protect our local NHS. http://action.38degrees.org.uk/ccg_assign
  8. All sorts of stuff being put on by Sheffield University in the next week and a bit. "The Festival of the Mind is a celebration of ideas, culture and collaboration. It’s open to everyone and it’s FREE. The University of Sheffield has teamed up with the city’s creative community to design a magical week of performances, talks, exhibitions and activities." http://festivalofthemind.group.shef.ac.uk/
  9. Fanoush's on London Road, they do veg wraps with hummous - sounds pretty healthy to me.
  10. Not sure how often they will do one for the hearing impaired, but I think they try and arrange a lecture of event every couple of months. They have twitter/facebook presence, or you can check their website for updates. http://www.sciencebrainwaves.com/ I was going to ask for a 'science' subforum in the interest groups area, but apparently SF have run out of space for new forums.
  11. Science Brainwaves is proud to present Brainy and Brawny, aka Dr Audrey Cameron and Gary Quinn, and their fantastic science show! Gary and Audrey will be producing explosions, illusions, and a little bit of science…suitable for all ages and hearing abilities! The show will be performed in British Sign Language with audio interpretation. The event is free. More information, and a link to book tickets, are included in the following link. http://www.sciencebrainwaves.com/events/brainwaves-summer-lecture/
  12. Leeds will have the world's largest Primark!!! I bet Londoners will be fuming, they've only got the Olympics! Leeds already has 'versions' of most of those stores. As someone who has no real interest in shopping, and having lived for a substantial time in both cities, I prefer Shef City centre. It has a lot more open space; places like the Peace Gardens and the Winter gardens etc, has a far better cinema (the showroom) and better pubs. Plus the council (or whoever it is) puts on more stuff in the city centre in Sheffield, like the Halloween thing they do, or the food stalls that are currently out around the high street and infront of the peace gardens.
