Bus service changes in Sheffield - September 2017

Recommended Posts

Here is my understanding of what is going to be happening in the September bus change window this year. Things will become clearer once the full information gets officially published by Travel South Yorkshire - http://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com.

There are some other changes to school services not listed below in reaction to the withdrawal of MASS Brightbus school buses, this information is already published at http://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/Brightbus/

There are no changes to tram or train services, the next train timetable change is in December.

3/3a Nether Edge-Sheffield-Meadowhall

Some journeys to become service 3a and follow a different route in Wincobank, replacing services 35 and 70.

19 Sheffield-Meersbrook-Woodseats-Chancet Wood

New hourly service. Combines with route 18 to provide a half hourly service as far as Woodseats then continues to Chancet Wood via Abbey Lane. Replaces withdrawn service 96 at Chancet Wood.

31/31a/31b Sheffield-Walkley-Hillsborough-Loxley

Some Saturday journeys to become service 31b and run a simpler route in the Walkley area to improve punctuality.

35 Sheffield-Hillsborough-Grenoside-Firth Park-Meadowhall

85 Sheffield-Hillsborough-Grenoside-High Green

Both will run hourly, combined to provide half hourly service as far as Grenoside. Service 35 is a significant route change and no longer run between Sheffield and Meadowhall (see new services 3a and 36). Service 85 will interwork with service 136 and continue beyond High Green to Rotherham via Thorpe Hesley.

36 Sheffield-Meadowhall-Wingfield

Hourly service replacing the 35 and 43.

38a Hillsborough-Firth Park

Will no longer run through to Meadowhall

40 Sheffield-Catcliffe

Withdrawn. See new service 73.

41 Sheffield-Dyke Vale Road

Will no longer run through to Hackenthorpe

43 Meadowhall-Wingfield

Withdrawn and replaced by new service 36

43 Sheffield-Dronfield Woodhouse-Chesterfield

Monday to Saturday daytime frequency improved to every 20 minutes. New timetable now available at http://www.derbysbus.info/times/

43a Sheffield-Dronfield Hill Top-Hallowes

Withdrawn. Some peak time journeys on route 43 will start/finish at Hallowes as a partial replacement.

Timetable change

44a Coal Aston-Dronfield-Sheepbridge-Chesterfield

Withdrawn

52a Woodhouse-Sheffield-Crookes-Hillsborough-Wisewood

Selected journeys at school times will extend beyond Wisewood to Bradfield School, replacing a withdrawn MASS Brightbus school service.

57 Sheffield-Oughtibridge-Stocksbridge

off peak service reduced to hourly. Buses will interwork with service 201 to provide through journeys Sheffield-Stocksbridge-Chapeltown. Current half hourly service level not proving financially viable outside peak

times.

66 Rotherham-Thorpe Hesley

Will no longer run through to High Green - see new service 136 for alternative.

70/71 Sheffield-Meadowhall-Tinsley-Rotherham

72 Sheffield-Parkway Markets-Brinsworth-Tinsley-Meadowhall

Revised route - to go to Meadowhall instead of Rotherham.

Extended from Treeton to Sheffield partially replacing the 40.

74 Sheffield-Manor Top-Brinsworth-Rotherham

Complete change of route partially replacing the 40. Catcliffe to Harthill section of current 74 replaced by new service X54.

96 Sheffield-Abbeydale Road-Hutcliffe Wood-Chancet Wood

Withdrawn. Service 86 will still operate over much of this route, new service 19 will serve Chancet Wood via Woodseats.

136 Rotherham-Thorpe Hesley-High Green

New service replacing service 66. Interworks with service 85 to provide through journeys beyond High Green via Hillsborough to Sheffield.

181 Dore-University of Sheffield

737 Sheffield-Robin Hood Airport

New limited stop service via Sheffield Parkway, Wickersley, Bramley and the M18. Single fare to airport is £6. Day Explorer and Megarider Gold also valid. Timetable now available at http://www.stagecoachbus.com.

SL1/SL1a (Hillsborough)-Middlewood tram terminus-Stocksbridge

no changes to this service

SL2 (Hillsborough)-Malin Bridge tram terminus-Stannington

withdrawn, insufficient patronage to be financially viable. Alternative services between Malin Bridge and Stannington are available (61/62/81/82).

X5 Sheffield-Swallownest-Aston-Kiveton Park-Dinnington

X55 Sheffield-Swallownest-Aston-Dinnington-Todwick

X54 Sheffield-Catcliffe-Treeton-Swallownest-Aston-Todwick-Harthill

Service X5 reduced to half hourly. New service X55 will run hourly and go more directly to Dinningon. Service X54 replaces current 74 but via Sheffield Parkway rather than Attercliffe and Sheffield Business Park, reducing journey times. All three buses co-ordinated to provide a service between Sheffield, Swallownest and Aston every 15 minutes.

Very good news about the number 19 Andy, it will be great to have a half hourly service through Meersbrook again, as well as a bus to Woodseats.

Not surprised about the 96 is not used much at all.

However 86 could do with some extra capacity as it can be vey busy at times.

Was telling a friend about these changes. His comment was that some people with a tie who probably never take bus themselves got too much time.

Yes. Andy C is a regular source of information on changes- far more so that SYPTE/First/Stagecoach together will ever be.

Any idea when the timetables come out for these? I'm very interested in what routes the 3/3a and 36 will do and whether the timetables will allow me to stay in bed a little longer in the morning...

Thanks for posting.

Me too they have ruined what was a reliable fast service, its particularly bad in the afternoon with full buses due to schools and taking ages to get back due to picking up local passengers on Eccelsall rd and going via Dore.

As from September the bus no longer goes to Dore, just had a look at the new timetable and map.
