  1. If you are a grass roots team or any other sports group displaced by the out of use Hillsborough Park don't bother going along to Coronation Park in Oughtibridge, apparently the locals don't like to share! It has been brought to the Parish Council’s attention that teams are carrying out football training sessions in Coronation Park at Oughtibridge. We understand that some of these sessions are being carried out due to Hillsborough Park being closed. Coronation Park has a strict policy that no organised ball games/training sessions can take place, this is due to the damage that can be caused to the park and the limited green space which does not lend itself to being cordoned off. The Parish Council do have an area that is suitable for football games/training at Dungworth, please contact the office for more details.
  2. It is not a few feet from the X78 stop at the bottom of Jenkin Road around to the X1 stop on Meadowhall drive it used to take me a 5 minute walk from one to the other if the X78's didn't turn up, which I would do on occasion if I thought I could trust the app to be telling the truth about when the buses were due. An older person would take quite a bit longer IMO.
  3. oooh I have just found the response I was sent, it was 3rd October 2016 and goes as follows:- Thank you for getting in touch about our number X1 & X78 buses. I'm sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the changes. There were major changes to the timetables on the week commencing 4th September, which we experienced a few problems with. This is something we hope is now resolved as drivers and customers familiarized with the changes. We always like to hear of any suggestions that our customers have for how we can improve our service. We want to make sure that our routes are suitable and convenient for all of our customers - sometimes this is a balancing act, and we're sorry that we can't please everyone - but we do try to. In relation to the Meadowhall Road/ nr Jenkin Road stop - the X1 service will not stop at this stop. However, I have forwarded your comments to our network planning team. They regularly review the network and undertake assessments to determine whether changes will work in the overall best interest of our customers. Thanks again for taking the trouble to get in touch – we really do appreciate it. We look forward to welcoming you on board one of our buses again soon. Yours sincerely Jennifer Brown Customer Relations Officer
  4. I wrote to the SYTPE (if still called that) not long after the X1 got introduced, and suggested that the X1 could come a bit further along Meadowhall Road once it had left Meadowhall interchange and stop at the bottom of Jenkin Road, and then go along Weedon Street before joining Attercliffe Common instead of turning onto Meadowhall Way, then onto Weedon Street and Attercliffe Common. This was because loads of bus users from Brightside and Wincobank relied heavily on a regular x78 into the city. As soon as the X1 was introduced the X78's were reduced and I and many others lost count of the times the X78's were missing or very late but we would see 3 empty X1's going merrily around the corner whilst we were stood waiting. They said NO. I then asked if they could possibly reinstate the stop that used to be situated just before the turn onto Meadowhall Way so that X78 users could easily reach a stop used by both buses hence increasing the chance of successfully catching either the X1 or X78. They said NO to that as well. In the end I had to give up catching the bus and had to take the car, it was just too stressful trying to get the kids to school and get to work on time. It's like common sense must not prevail! I was one of many Brightside users in this position.

  6. Just in general, but from my own recent experiences and those of others I know there is not much honour about estate agents in the current climate. If you are selling, do everything you can to make sure you know that the person you are told is the highest bidder, is actually the highest bidder and not in fact someone who has paid the agent to tell you that they are the highest bidder. And if you are buying, ensure that you let the vendor know personally what your offer is, just to avoid the situation of the estate agent not passing that offer on, having been paid a back hander not to.
  7. Indus in Conisborough does a really nice all you can eat buffet on a Monday night
  8. we went to several open house viewings just before the pandemic and at many of them were people who had made the trip up from down South and were viewing up to 10 properties in one day to purchase for property investment groups. Made me think then about how local people would be either pushed out of the purchase market and / or be forced to rent.
  9. there is a company in sheffield who have re wrapped my kitchen called re:faced. They did a really good job and its not expensive. https://www.facebook.com/Refacedltd
  10. That's bonkers! I felt a bit disheartened when I saw them all there because its forcing local people out of the market and making it even harder for youngsters to buy a starter home near to family and friends but I guess that's not a new thing if you're from the south.
  11. I agree Finbak, a company appears to have bought several in wincobank, done a full renovation and them tried to let out at approx £100pcm over market value, all still empty!
  12. Not sure about them moving here but they are definitely coming up in investor groups. I have viewed several properties with a view to helping my son onto the property ladder over the last few months and at several viewings there have been 2 or 3 small groups of southerners with lists of up to 20 properties they are viewing during the course of the day. They have also had a builder type person with them who I guess is advising them of how much would need spending on each property to make it suitable for rental purposes.
  13. Amey are responsible for the lights above the ground, if it is a cabling issue underground, then it is passed on by them to Northern powergrid
  14. I've given up catching the bus because the times and routes kept changing, and frequency of buses were changing too often , they were often unreliable, and on several occasions I just found the drivers so rude and mean, for example hurrying to drive off when then can clearly see you are nearly at the stop. Buses from brightside have really gone down hill since the x78 service was reduced in favour of the x1, and any services coming up Jenkin Road have such convuluted routes it can take an hour to get into the city centre. Late last year I just thought, it's not worth the hassle and stress anymore, so now I take the car to town. I'd love to use public transport but it's just not good enough.
  15. I can clearly remember hearing an old plane flying over our house in Stockbridge that night in 1997. Was sat with my mum when we heard it and mum commented it sounded exactly like the ones she would hear during WW2. By the time we got outside for a look it had passed over. Always intrigued us.
