  1. Cheers Matt, I grew up in Ilford, Essex/London, never realised how much of a minority i belong too! Been in sheff for 6 years only recently noticed lol
  2. i'm a 27 yr old maths teacher, was a student last year. Don't think i'd be welcome in a uni soc or really fit in. There has to be more lol
  3. I'm just curious being Hindu Punjabi. I'n not at all religious but curious to find out if people who share this aspect of my identity are really so rare in Sheffield. I knwo there is a temple for each but i have no desire to go there...not my thing at all. Cheers V
  4. i def agree, i'm HP (hindu Punjabi) originally from london. Wondering where the other Hindu/Sikh poeple are?
  5. i've agreed to buy a house on city road, surveyor said damp, builder 1 said in one wall cost 500+vat, builder 2 said all alone one side of house cost 1200+vat, now looking for builders 3 and 4 when i move in and go with majority rules, what do u think? i'm not paying for a damp proof company to quote me, that sounds like madness! im cheap and proud!
  6. is there a big jump to come? where? why? not sure re continued property boom...i mean everywhere is getting too expensive for a single person to buy their first house....soon we'll all need rich or dead parents to buy homes....or take out 50 to 100 year mortgages. i live in southey green and work in firth park. there are affordable, sub 100k, houses in these areas....but there are also much more expensive ones. many nice, peaceful streets to live too but over the last 3 years the property prices haven't moved like other places have and maybe its time they did. then again...there are other places where houses are bigger and better situated for public transport that could, maybe should, see a boom first. i hope all house prices tail off now...because they are massive...its getty silly in my opinion. over a 100k for average houses with damp, poor plumbing, electrics and so on, in a not so hot area. my why i think prices will not tail off cos we're still off the national average. the city benefits form having two very productive unis and skilled workers are retained relitively easily. so i think they will fuel a continued property boom in sheff.

  8. i'm using taylors...nothing good or bad to report...they we're the cheapest i found in the yellow pages, as were a company called best solicitors...good luck. things is i'd want to work with a local company...easier to go in and complain...should the need arise.
  9. i hear there's a machine available off ebay, some german company sells it, its called a d-box. it connects to existing cable package like any other set top box but it allows u, once configured by u, to watch everything they cud poss send down the cable. so pay per view events, all sports, all those box office films everything. it goes foe between 50 to 200 squid but it does work...not that i'd engage in such activity as im not sure if its all legal. that would allow u to watch a lot of footy and film but not sure re all prem games.
  10. CHEERS, GUYS. more feedback pls as i don't knwo the area and your opinions are valued, thanks
  11. Hi, I'm buying my first home. They seller says she carried out minning and environmental searches 4yrs ago. THEREFORE, I've got the impression i don't need to. My solicitor hasn't help me decide and has left it to me do decide if i want them. Are they important...the house is on city road S2. cheers V
  12. as long as you can park somewhere and the house is good enough then you'll be fine. i'm sure this unique feature may even appeal to some people
  13. snowB, I live at southey green. I've just had an offer on a house accepted and my budget was/is sub 100 so yeah i couldn't affort the 'nice' parts either. i thought long and hard about southey and firth park but being a teacher at firth park I was adviced to look elsewhere by more experienced teachers. I think firth park town centre is nice. local kids lack sophistication, rude, but are not dangerous. i'd live there if i didn't teach. Hillsborough sometimes has places for under a 100k. i went for city road S2 because i got tired of looking and found a house that that was being sold for less then its worth in my opinion. no parking space thou, slightly rough area. southey is an ok place to live, the houses are big and you generally get a drive for your car. when i got here a bus driver seemed to think that crime is a big issue here as he insisted i look after my wallet as the kids are pick pocket/theives. My landlord hasn't had any trouble and has lived here for 3yrs but he is affraid to go to his local pub. Around city road/behind train station there will be a great deal of developement, so house prices are going to increase, a mate at the planing department claims but it will take 15yrs for the stuff to be made. Not sure when the hosue prices will reflect the proposed work. good luck, V
  14. hi, I'm moving to city road, 500+. What is it really like? Is it easy to rent to workers and stuents? Is it safe? Are the locals civilised or wild animals? How does is it for local shops and stuff? Any and all opinions are welcome! Cheers,
