  1. Something doesn’t sound right. Hackneys (black cab type) can only charge what the meter shows. Private hires charge in accordance with the companies set fares, which then form the basis of a contract between you and the company. It’s unlawful to charge more for someone with a disability under the Equality Act 2010. if you have details of the vehicle or the company you booked it with report it to taxilicensing@sheffield.gov.uk and they will look into it.
  2. My guess is that it would have been one of the four houses at the junction of Church St and School Lane. That would have coincided with the square leg / point boundary. There was no cricket on there after about 2003 when some oik burnt the pavilion down, now a housing estate and nursing home.
  3. It was on Church Street, just down from the Hare and Hounds. It was just over the boundary of the Stannington United cricket ground - we had many “discussions” with Bobby and Donna asking for our ball back….
  4. The charge is murder because it’s what’s known as “transferred malice”. Murder requires a premeditated element / planning. If A intends to kill B, but missed and kills C, then it’s transferred malice and it’s the original intent that is a large part of the offence.
  5. Having read the Star article it looks like an event promoter has made an application for a licence for Hillsborough Park for an event. Its quite a wide timeframe - a single three day event, between May & September in either 2023 or 2024. People / local residents have objected so the decision to grant the licence has to be referred to Councillors, with the hearing taking place this week. Knowing a little about the Licensing Act, it is quite narrow on what can be considered - access to the park, traffic, parking etc are outside the remit of the act and the Council are bound by the legislation to grant a licence unless there are specific legal grounds not to. It looks like the promoter asked for Hillsborough Park, rather than the Council deciding thats where this event should be - much like the OP asks for Lowedges Park for his own event.......
  6. Sheffield has had a 100% wheelchair accessible hackney fleet since the late 90’s.
  7. Baron 99 is absolutely correct. The legislation states that the revocation does not take effect for 21 days, and if an appeal is lodged at the Magistrates Court during that time, then the premises can continue with licensable activities until the outcome of the appeal is known.
  8. I think it’s because the SAG doesn’t have any powers to call the event off - the clue is in the middle word - advisory. If the event organiser chooses to ignore advice given then they would have to justify their decision in Court etc should anything subsequently go wrong. Meadowhall Live is a private event on private land and as such the event organiser is responsible for the safety of it.
  9. Things required last time I checked; BTEC level 2 qualification - "Introduction to the role of private hire / hackney carriage driver" Pass Councils driving test ("I've been driving for years" is no guarantee of a safe driver unfortunately!!) Pass Councils Geographical Knowledge test You can then make an application for a private hire & hackney carriage drivers licence which will include you having to pass a DVLA group 2 standard medical, and submitting an enhanced disclosure DBS (CRB) certificate. The Council will give you the forms for the medical / DBS when you make your application. If you have certain convictions (motoring or otherwise) this may hold up or even prevent you from getting a licence. Convictions are never spent for certain occupations - private hire / taxi driver is one of them so you need to declare even historical convictions. Getting badged by January will be a tight squeeze - think there are waiting lists for the BTEC and the other tests. DBS checks can take a few weeks to come back also. Good luck !
  10. If its the one with Brown front, they are far from what their name claims. I used them a couple of years ago. After the initial "free" consultation (where they actually told me nothing), they lost correspondence, failed to reply to my chase up emails and when they did eventually admit they had lost my emails / letters, they simply cut and pasted my words onto their letter headed paper and sent it off. All at ÂŁ140 per hour!! "Advice" they gave was poor, and if I had followed their recommendations, it would have left me approximately ÂŁ20k worse off. The real irony was when their final bill came. They tried to charge me for dealing with my emails chasing up my emails that they had lost!!
  11. Drivers are supposed to hand in lost property at the nearest police station, but if the driver doesn’t notice the lost property it comes down to the honesty of the next passenger unfortunately. If you know the licence number or registration number of the cab you can contact the Councils licensing service who can then contact the driver to try and help at Licensingservice@sheffield.gov.uk
  12. Don't Uber use the same drivers pool as other companies then?
  13. No. It has a premises licence which permits consumption both on and off the premises. Exactly the same as "a pub".
  14. I'm confused! what petty issues do you speak of? and why don't they affect both black cab and private hire ?
  15. So why don’t you object to the Council? . The notice should tell you how to make an objection and the closing date for doing so. You’ll then have the opportunity in person to speak to the decision makers at a licensing hearing.
