  1. Happy to confirm the last post, that they are open. I too am a nervous patient, but have been twice recently, all is well-organised and the new dentist I saw was excellent. Wife and son can confIrm positiVe experiences as well.
  2. I know that. I've been over top and bottom. The point of the story is the deception by the student standing on his head for part 2 of his journey, creating the illusion that the carriage turns over.
  3. Apologies if this has been said before, but there is a story that at the opening of the Arts Tower a student went up in the paternoster to the top floor, stayed in it while it went over the top, and in that time stood on his head, so that he came back down the full 18 floors upside-down. Reportedly many observers were fooled, and this acted as a deterrent against staying in at the top and bottom. I have no idea whether the story is true.
  4. I went with grandkids for a round of golf on the pitch and putt at Graves Park last Friday -my first visit there for many, many years. I was very impressed by the facilities - the pitch and putt is very suitable for kids and occasional golf players, and nearby the bowling green looks good and the tennis courts look excellent - as good as any tennis club, and very reasonable. They are the kind of courts you book on-line, and this may be the reason why they appear not to be busy. Car parking there is straightforward, and I would recommend the facilities for anyone looking for sports this summer in a pleasant environment. Helpful staff in the club-house, too.
  5. Thanks for that, very helpful. We are planning to go on Friday. I won't be beating any course records - I played quite a bit at Bingham Park as a kid, but it must be over 50 years since I had a round. I hope nobody is following us for a few minutes! ---------- Post added 05-08-2018 at 21:29 ---------- Finally made it there on Friday, and really enjoyed it. Started off with two 3's, and then my game collapsed...
  6. A year on, and grandkids arrive in a few days with better weather promised. Hoping for a round on the pitch and putt. Has anyone been recently - information is very hard to find (cost, opening times, where to park, etc.). It is many years since I have been to Graves Park. All info gratefully received.
  7. If you can get them at that price, then I would think they would be fine. You might not get a good view of one of the special effects in Part 2, but in general the production uses the whole stage and you would feel equally involved. Hope that helps.
  8. I don't think so. Try the Sheffield Theatres booking site - it seems much easier to use than it used to be. The tickets are not cheap, but having seen the show, I can understand why. Have you got a generous relative looking for ideas for a Xmas present?
  9. I don't quite understand the point of your reply. I described it as a real winter-warmer, a feel-good musical for all the family. I don't think anyone would go expecting Hamlet. Though it does have something of the fantasy of some Shakespeare comedies. If you can suspend your disbelief as you might for a Shakespeare comedy, you might enjoy it!
  10. Went last night, without great expectations, to see the Wizard of Oz at the Crucible. I am delighted to report that it was an outstanding experience, enjoyed by an audience with a wide age-range from children to seniors. It was a real feel-good winter warmer, which made great use of the Crucible stage - lots of colour, lots of imagination, an extraordinary dog, great performances by a group of youngsters, and strong performances from all the professionals, everything you could want from a mid-winter musical. We came out into the cold afterwards still smiling. If you are hesitating about whether to go - get your seats booked. It could make for an expensive Xmas if families go to this and the panto, but the Wizard of Oz is sure to please.
  11. Thanks for the further replies. The rain on Tuesday prevented me continuing my golf career for the moment.
  12. Thanks for that. Hoping to revive my golf skills (!), weather permitting.
  13. Another thread asking for help with planning an imminent visit from our grandkids, aged 11 and 13. Has anybody experience of gokarting for kids of this sort of age? They have not done it before, and I have looked at the website of venues in the area, but I would appreciate advice from anyone with recent experience. This kind of activity is totally outside my experience (I lead a sheltered life!)
  14. Can anyone confirm whether Graves Park pitch and putt is still open, and that clubs can be hired? Grandkids coming next week, and I thought it would be a good thing to do with them. I could not find info on obvious websites, and previous threads on this are years out of date. All information gratefully received.
  15. Many thanks, Alan. Name noted for future reference.
