  1. Just had a mini power cut in Deepcar, initially assumed it was the winds from "Storm Debi" but we seem to get so many damn mini power cuts I'm not so sure. I swear theres a major fault somewhere around Deepcar / Stocksbridge thats being ignored, I've only been here a year and have had more powercuts here than the last 6 years elsewhere in Sheffield. Its practically once a fortnight now...
  2. Currently in the process of buying in the S36 area and the searches are about to be sent off. Curious to know how long it's been taking for these to come back in Sheffield over the last 6 months or so.
  3. Hi all, About to buy a house in the Hillsborough area and I'm after some recommendations for a decent conveyancing solicitor. I've been poking around on the big "we do everything for you" type of sites like London & Country and Habito but the reviews on their services are pretty mixed so figure its probably best to get someone from the local area who's knowledgeable and wont be a nightmare to deal with!
  4. You forgot the avocado, quinoa and chia seeds. Gotta admit tho, being a native southerner, I do like their breakfast Panini/Butty things...just bloody expensive.
  5. They need to sort out some better trams before they think about extending it. Have you ridden the new ones? They're bloody awful, all the driver has to do is touch the brakes and it skids to a stop, plus they have no suspension at all, which must make them a complete roller coaster when they switch over to the main train lines. Given they wont pay out for decent trams I cant see them spending a penny on extending the lines.
  6. I walk along Corporation street every day to go to work (Coming from Mowbray street, over the bridge, past Tesco, round the corner and crossing over into West Bar) and regularly see: 1) A woman on a push bike cycling from somewhere on Kelham island. She cycles along the path, ringing her bell to get people to move (its always busy as Students cross over at the lights near the Tesco). She seemingly has an inability to use the road 2) A guy, must be late 20's, early 30's who also comes from Kelham Island, and comes out onto Corporation Street by Tesco who ALWAYS without failure jumps the lights. Twice I've nearly had him hit me whilst crossing the road. The second time I yelled at him and made it clear that if it happens again, he can expect to be pushed off. These people are complete arses. You're on the road, you have to abide by the rules of the road, I don't care what they are using as their vehicle, not a single one of them gives you the right to nearly hit me.
  7. Ah so this is what's going on. I saw them doing measurements last week on my walk to work (I'm in Brewery Wharf), then on Friday they'd spraypainted all over the place. Today they put cones out but no work had started when I last popped out (early afternoon). This better not close the footpath. If I have to walk the other way I've gotta go all the way up to the Rutland Road bridge as the one on Ball Street seems to just be permanently closed now. :/
  8. Yeah the rents on some of them seem crazy. Especially in the Q4 / Solly Street area. There seem to be near identical places, one of them will go for ~£475, the other will be listed for £600 - there's no consistency there at all! I tried getting a couple of bookings with Belvoir! but it was a case of you have to look at it on X date or don't bother, which seems a really poor way of doing bookings.
  9. Thanks for the replies guys Anyone know anything about the places on Solly Street / Upper Allan Street and the surrounding area? There seems to be a large number of places available in Q4 and Impact and a few smaller places.
  10. Hi all, I'm possibly going to be moving to Sheffield in the coming months for a job. It's located at the upper end of the city centre (S3 area) and I'm basically looking for 1 bedroom apartments to rent. Ideally for my first place I'd like somewhere furnished (or part-furnished). I've been looking at places such as Q4 Apartments and a couple of really nice looking places over on Kelham Island but I'm not really sure on the area. Really I want somewhere within walking distance of work, which a large part of the area seems to be, but also not somewhere where I'll have noise all night from students and/or bars/clubs. I'm hoping to arrange some viewings for the next couple of weeks and have found a few places within my budget, but really wanted to know which areas are to be avoided, which are ok, etc. My budget's around £500 a month and ideally I'd not want a ground floor level place if it's in a complex. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
