Wreath in Eckington Woods near large wooden bridge
liznospam replied to Chris 555's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I remember reading about this 1895 drowning tragedy involving a number of local families. Could it possibly be related to this? http://www.sheffieldhistory.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/3083-seldom-seen-engine-house/&page=2 -
I passed some on display at Swallownest. According to Google Maps it is Complete Conservatories Ltd. I also remember seeing some when we were looking for double glazing, in an industrial unit on the Holbrook Industrial Estate, but can't remember the name of the company!

Has anyone travelled on the Woodhead or the Snake today? What are the conditions like? Thanks

This is a useful link: http://www.trafficengland.com/trafficalerts.aspx and this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/sheffield M62 was definitely open a couple of hours ago -
The government's daily spend is about £2,000 million, so £32 million is peanuts in comparison. So, yes, it is a coincidence.

Creationist 'free schools' coming to Sheffield?
liznospam replied to six45ive's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
There is a petition about this on the epetitions government website, titled "Teach evolution not creationism". Here is the link: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/1617 -

20% rate for 2 weeks is a weekly rate of (1.2 to the power of 1/2) which is 1.095 which is 9.5% each week. (The compounding makes it 20% over 2 weeks). Do the calculation I gave in the example above at 9.5% over 52 weeks and it gives the same answer as 20% over 26 2 week periods. ie 11347%
-
Simple example: if the rate was 1% per month, for the 12 months of the year, calculation would be: ((1+.01) to the power of 12) minus 1=1.126-1=0.126 ie 12.6% So if the rate for 2 weeks=20% There are 26 2 week periods in a year. ((1+0.2) to the power of 26) minus 1=114.47-1=113.47 ie 11347% you need a scientific calculator with y with a little x to the top right of it, sorry I can't type the symbol.

Probable scam clothes collection abc-vara
liznospam replied to liznospam's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
They are not a registered charity, just a company. -
Just to make people aware, clothing collection bags from abc-vara claiming to be collecting for local schools is almost certainly a scam. It is a newly registered company based in Leicester, and is already being investigated by Trading Standards in another area.

Had a similar call today from a foreign sounding gentleman with the very English name Jack White. When I asked him to tell me the name of the company he worked for, he told me to stop wasting his time and put the phone down on me! I always enjoy getting the scam artists to be the first to hang up.

Clues from use of language: Thurso is a town not a city and is in Scotland, not "the Northern part of United Kingdom" If they have to walk 2 miles for a mobile phone signal, surely they need a car and don't travel by plane? The use of language and the story is bizarre and must surely be some sort of scam.

I would just book an appointment and go and see the doctor. It isn't down to the receptionist to say. If it has been there for years the doctor needs to see it and hear how it is bothering you.

I am not an expert, but I would have thought that the figure you need is the same figure you would need to calculate for tax purposes, which is the net income, ie gross income less allowable expenses. These links give details. The second link shows expenses that can be deducted, including interest on property loans. I wouldn't have thought that the tax credit people would be expert in this either as they probably don't come across it too often. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/Taxes/TaxOnPropertyAndRentalIncome/DG_10013435 http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/Taxes/TaxOnPropertyAndRentalIncome/DG_10014027
