  1. I went to Upperthorpe 1958 left in 1962 have a photo of my class but can't remember any names Mr Causey is in the picture. Anybody still around who remembers those dates John Gold was my name and I lived on Jenkinson street.
  2. I don't remember George Woodward but round the corner from our house at 59, Jenkinson St at No 43 Kelvin St lived a Tubby and Manny Woodward and their old mother. They were rag and bone men as well and were well known local characters in the Kelvin I think they must have been related to your uncle.
  3. Hi Ken I lived at 59 Jenkinson St from 1957 to when it was demolished and knew David and his younger brother Peter well. My cousin had a pub in Burley in Wharfedale in the 70s and Peter was living in Burley at that time.I haven't heard of Peter since then but my sister told me she had had been told that David (Bear) had passed away unfortunately. I went to "Upperthorpe" school and left in 1962 remember Dougie Keeling who lived on Kelvin street and the Thickett family who lived on our street.I think the woman living next door to us at 57 was called Mrs Whitworth and I used to go to shops for her tins of "Wilsons" snuff. I certainly remember the woman who Donkey stoned her her doorstep a lot, people liked to do that back then it was an house proud thing for them I think. John Gold was my name and I had a brother called Irving and a sister called Margaret.
  4. Hello Janet I left MH in June 1967 and don't think I ever had the pleasure of meeting your mum or Judy. The Reg you mentioned would be "Reg Hodgkinson" if my memory serves me correctly, I can remember a few other people people who worked there also.
  5. Hi David, sorry to hear that your dad has passed away we were good friends back in the day, we spent many an happy hour with Molly in her kitchen chatting and drinking endless cups of tea. I never saw much of Eric has he seemed to work long hours. I do remember him once taking me into his garage and showing me an old car he was working on a "Jowett Javelin" I think it was. ---------- Post added 23-11-2016 at 16:15 ---------- Hi David, sorry to hear your dad has passed on, we were good friends back in the day. I remember Andrew was just a young lad when I knew him maybe 10 years or so old. ---------- Post added 23-11-2016 at 17:14 ---------- Yes Janet some things I can recall very vividly say hello to Jean from me if you are still in touch with her. I worked at "Middlewood" hospital in 1966 and 1967 and then moved to Huddersfield and worked at "Storthes Hall" hospital where I qualified. Would you know Stanley Newbert ? he was a charge nurse at MH and he lived very close to you in an hospital house on Middlewood Road, he had a son called Michael who I went to school with. I drove back from Sheffield last year sometime and the "Beeley Wood" pub was boarded up and the "Middlewood tavern" shut 2 of my favourite haunts in those days. The vicars name at MHs church at the time was a "Reverend Totley" who went by the handle of "Rev Tetley" because he spent a lot of time in the "Beeley Wood" pub. I spent many happy hours in "Molly Humberstones" kitchen drinking tea, so many people I knew are scattered by the 4 winds now but I do remember quite a lot and wonder about them sometimes.
  6. How could I forget you and (Jean) in your smart bottle green "Newfield School" uniforms does Jean still live in Sheffield? I've lost touch with people from "Winn Gardens" the last time I was there was sometime in the 1970s or maybe 80s. I visited "Harry Charlesworth" who lived at the top of the estate and had a daughter "Susan" and son "Terry" they were nice people. I remember all the people mentioned and quit a few other names as well, Robert and Cheryl lived behind us and he had an old "Triumph Mayflower" car he used to drive about in.
  7. Hi Janet hope you are well ? sorry to read that my friend Richard Humberstone has passed away. I often think about "Winn Gardens" it was a great place to live in the 60s and I made many friends there. People were very friendly and sociable the disco's at the community centre were great fun. I was sorry when my parents decided to move away because I wanted to stay there. (John Gold)
