  1. Andrew Tup Top Contributor · sporndoetSmg9t7f ca61iira M8Mlacu4g17uhg0tP2 g01l329 :110c22 · It was a lovely spring day, almost perfect weather across Yorkshire and the Humber for a parkrun. 61/64 events took place across the Yorkshire and the Humber region. Cancellations were at Beverley Westwood, New Earswick and Pontefract. The first two venues were still recovering from the weather; Pontefract was staging another running event. Total attendance was 14536, an increase of 382 (2.7%) compared with last week. The largest attendance was at Endcliffe (771); the smallest was at Horton Park (40). Of the 61 events that also took place last week, 34 saw an increase in attendance and 27 were lower. Events that had the same number of runners (doubles): Dewsbury and Halifax both had 154 runners, and Barnsley and Concord had 146. Ancholme Valley Way staged its 100th event. Anniversaries: Concord’s 13th, Wetherby’s 9th, Dalby Forest’s 8th. Hull had their 260,000th finisher; Peter Pan their 80,000th. Endcliffe’s attendance was the first ever instance of 771 in the region. Endcliffe had the 10th highest attendance across the UK. York (719) was 15th, Woodhouse Moor (699) was 18th and Huddersfield (653) was 20th. The rolling weekly regional average attendance of 12742 over the last year represents an increase of 19.1% when compared with the previous year (10700). The 12-month average is the third The large increase in rolling average and % increase since last week is mainly due to the low attendance that was seen on 11 March 2023 (weather related). Only two other Saturdays after that in 2023 (21 Oct & 2 Dec) saw a large number of cancellations.
  2. https://www.parkrun.com/news/ "......................especially those who are new and yet to take part, and we therefore established a global working group to consider how we can present data in a way that is not off-putting and doesn’t imply that parkrun is a race................" "Based on the conclusions and recommendations of the project group, we will no longer publish data such as most first finishes, sub 17 men and sub 20 women, and age grade or category speed records. Alongside these, as part of our ongoing data protection improvements, the search function has been removed................." ".............we’ll continue to take steps to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy parkrun for what it is: a free community event and an opportunity to be active, social and outside in a non-competitive, inclusive and welcoming environment." Above are quotes from parkrun news detailing changes in the way results are displayed. There are also additional changes to the touring most events list. Full item on the link at the top. There is a lot of media interest in this and the various parkrun linked facebook pages, like stats geeks and 'UK parkrun Tourists', 'parkrun World Tourists' and 'parkrun statsgeek group' are buzzing with comments, mostly negative. I wait to see how the changes work in practice. But, I am a bit of a stato and love to immerse myself in parkrun facts, figures, lists and details. I hope my access to this minutiae is removed from me.
  3. Andrew Tup · · face book page - 'Yorkshire parkruns, collect them all' Endcliffe has now matched Huddersfield with an attendance of 700+ for the 40th time. Woodhouse Moor (14) and York (9) now stand in third and fourth place on this particular list. Compared with the freezing weather experienced during the week, the mercury rose slightly by 9am on Saturday. However, this wasn’t sufficient to allow a number of events to proceed. Several announced cancellations as early as Friday evening when it became apparent that things weren’t going to improve enough by the following morning. Having said all of that, for those events that did go ahead, attendances across Yorkshire and the Humber were high. 51/65 events took place across the Yorkshire and the Humber region. The cancellations were at Bowling Park, Centre Vale, Chevin Forest, Cliffe Castle, Halifax, Horton Park, Huddersfield, Lister Park (Bradford), Myrtle, New Earswick, Oakwell Hall, Rother Valley, The Cinder Track and Thorp Perrow. Total attendance was 12924, a decrease of 2600 (16.7%) compared with last week. The largest attendance was at Endcliffe (780); the smallest was at Epworth Equestrian (60). Of the 47 events that also took place last week, 18 saw an increase in attendance and 29 were lower. Events that had the same number of runners (doubles): Cross Flatts and Sandall Park both had 225 runners, and Baysgarth Park, Selby and Skipton had 172. Bramley staged its 350th event, Cusworth Hall and Penistone their 150th. Endcliffe has now matched Huddersfield with an attendance of 700+ for the 40th time. Woodhouse Moor (14) and York (9) now stand in third and fourth place on this particular list. There were as many events with attendances over 500 as there were under 100 (six each). The last Saturday that every event staged had an attendance of 60+ was 26 August 2023. It’s taken a while, but with recent high attendances, the median attendance has increased by one to 166. The mean attendance reached a new high of 208.21. As with last week, the trends seen across the region were replicated nationally. Endcliffe had the 13th highest attendance in the UK. Woodhouse Moor (16th) and York (18th) also reached the national top 20. The rolling weekly regional average attendance of 12290 over the last year represents an increase of 16.3% when compared with the previous year (10565). The above 52-week average attendance compares favourably with the end of 2019 (12288). At that time, the average attendance continued to rise until 15 February 2020 (12906) before dropping slightly over the remaining four weeks before the COVID enforced pause. 4. We had a new parkrun in Sheffield on Sunday. Norfolk Heritage Park Junior parkrun started with 82 finishers plus a host of volunteers and adult supporters braving the 2 degree temperatures. They were treated to a high quality run with 5 runners under 8 minutes and all within 10 seconds of each other. Freya Hill blazed away from the start closely followed by Alfie Sansom, Edward Hall, Hrishi Popat and Jasper Kerr. Freya lead until the final 100 metres but could not hold off fellow, Hallamshire Harrier, Alfie Samson. Sheffield Junior parkruns have a strong following indicated by the first 5 having a total of 346 runs between them. There were also 18 first time runners. Andrew Tup - It was chilly, but dry (for most areas) in Yorkshire and the Humber for the first Saturday parkrun of 2024. Others were not so fortunate, still suffering the effects of the weather at the end of 2023 or seeing a touch of frost. As tends to be the case with the start of a New Year, attendances were much higher than usual at a number of events. 54/65 events took place across the Yorkshire and the Humber region. The cancellations were at Ancholme Valley Way, Beverley Westwood, Centre Vale, Huddersfield, Humber Bridge, Myrtle, New Earswick, Northallerton, Wakefield Thornes, Wetherby and York. Most of the cancellations were due to courses that remained saturated. Total attendance was 14374, an increase of 2292 (19.0%) compared with last week. The largest attendance was at Woodhouse Moor (739); the smallest was at Epworth Equestrian (52). Of the 52 events that also took place last week, 39 saw an increase in attendance, 12 were lower and one (Epworth Equestrian) was the same. The aggregate attendance for the region was a post-COVID high (beating 30 September 2023, 14354 from 64 events). There have only been 13 higher attendances for the region, all of which were in either 2019 or 2020. Events that had the same number of runners (doubles): Baysgarth Park and Sewerby both had 197 runners, Normanby Hall and North Yorkshire Water Park had 180, and Bramley and Cross Flatts had 165. Millfield (290) had a new record attendance for the fourth time in five events. There were notably high attendances at many other venues with eight attendances over 500. This is the most since 25 January 2020 (also . The last time more venues exceeded 500 was ten instances on 11 January 2020. Woodhouse Moor exceeded 700 for the 12th time; five of these have been in the last three months. Only Huddersfield (40) and Endcliffe (38) have done this more. The trends seen across the region were replicated nationally. Woodhouse Moor had the 20th highest attendance in the UK. The rolling weekly regional average attendance of 12193 over the last year represents an increase of 16.7% when compared with the previous year (10446).
  5. You can't disassociate from anything you don't agree with. I didn't agree with what I saw at The Underground Prison In Jerusalem but the feelings of responsibility were strong in me even though I wasn't born when the incidents happened .
  6. They were removed by the British Government . You state OUR government are theives.......and Axe is guilty by association....... and that included all British citizens, including you! Democracy works like that suck it up and don't say " Not in my name" that doesn't wash . My question to you is where do you stop? Elgin Marbles, Cleopatra's needle, vast estates in the UK and abroad, profits made through trade with anyone whatever the terms. The list is endless.
  7. There is an age and sex brake down of the Israeli hostages being released. We can actually see the faces of the 3 year-old twins and the 80+ year old grannies. Admittedly, its easier for the press to give these details because 1. There are less of them the ratio of exchanges is 1 Israeli to 3 Palestinians. 2. Reporters feel safer behind the Israeli lines. There is no age breakdown of the Palestinian prisoners being released. I saw a 17 year old being reunited with his mother on the TV just now. Is he one of the 'children'? Ask yourselves why? Its not rocket science.
  8. Andrew Tup on facebook / "Yorkshire parkruns - collect them all" Perhaps the threat of rain rather than anything that was actually occurring at 9am impacted attendances across Yorkshire and the Humber. Nevertheless, although there were only a few cancellations, numbers were down by a reasonable amount compared with the last few weeks. 61/65 events took place across the Yorkshire and the Humber region. Cancellations were at Brighouse, Halifax, New Earswick and Wetherby. Only Halifax wasn’t weather related. Total attendance was 11890, a decrease of 1756 (12.9%) compared with last week. The largest attendance was at Endcliffe (672); the smallest was at Epworth Equestrian (41). Of the 60 events that also took place last week, 13 saw an increase in attendance and 47 were lower. Events that had the same number of runners (doubles): Graves and Sandall Park both had 199, Normanby Hall and Thorp Perrow had 145, Barnsley and Rotherham had 143, Nostell and Oakwell Hall had 119, Conyngham Hall and The Cinder Track had 117, Concord and North Yorkshire Water Park had 113, Bramley and Northallerton had 110, and Centre Vale and Myrtle had 103. Other than the eight mentioned above, no other event had an attendance between 110-119. Hull staged its 650th event. Endcliffe (4th), Huddersfield (5th) and Woodhouse Moor (8th) all appeared in the top ten largest events across the UK. The total number of events completed across the history of parkrun in the region is 22,045. Of these, precisely 20,000 have seen attendances of 427 or fewer. The number of parkrun events completed this year (2728) has surpassed the total for all of 2019 (2715). This is the second highest annual total for any year (cf 3067 in 2022). Following last week’s record high, the average number of runners per event over the history of parkrun has dipped marginally below 208. The rolling weekly regional average attendance of 11895 over the last year represents an increase of 14.6% when compared with the previous year (10383).
  9. Sheffield & Rotherham parkruns are all over the weekly 'Yorkshire parkruns' report. Full version here https://www.facebook.com/groups/1733916136845554/?hoisted_section_header_type=recently_seen&multi_permalinks=3759889957581485 Armistice weekend was cold. However this didn’t seem to put off the hardy souls of Yorkshire and the Humber. ..................Of the 59 events that also took place last week, 28 saw an increase in attendance, 30 were lower and one (Endcliffe (697)) was the same. Events that had the same number of runners (doubles): Millhouses and Rother Valley both had 355, Dewsbury and Sewerby had 169, and Rotherham and Temple Newsam had 156. Six events had attendances between 152-156. In addition to the two mentioned above they were: Concord (152), Skipton (153), Centre Vale (154) and Goole (155). There have been 109 events with attendances of 700+. This is roughly one in every 200 events. Of these 109 occasions, Huddersfield (40), Endcliffe (38), Woodhouse Moor (10), Hull ( and York (7) account for 103. Endcliffe took advantage of the cancellation at Huddersfield to retake the aggregate attendance lead. Woodhouse Moor (6th) and Endcliffe (8th) both appeared in the top ten largest events across the UK.
  10. Strap yourselves in........... The red-faced bully is coming back.
  11. If the cycle lanes are good enough they will be used . The alternative for Dan Walker is SCC obtaining cycle lane grant money not providing a safe alternative for cyclists and pedestrians.
  12. Sorted. The driver was a straightforward guy who knew he was in the wrong. He paid cash for the replacement back wheel . My cuts and bruises will heal and the crick in my back will, hopefully, ease out with excercise. I am back on the road , albeit a little nerviouly. His car was written off and his insurance have paid out, it was a rather old car. He has managed to fit a replacement rear passenger window after pushing out the dents. He hopes to buy-back the vehicle which is still drivable. It's a message to insurance companies that we were both very reluctant to involve them. My faith in people is strengthened .
  13. Thank you for your responses............in most cases. The following occurs to me. 1. Some solicitors will take on the case on a no win , no fee basis. I was enquiring if anyone knew a local one. 2. The obligation to report an RTA falls upon the driver of a mechanically propelled vehicle. IF personal injury is caused. and IF the driver does not produce a certificate of insurance. I wish posters would know what they are talking about when they quote Act and Section, I did! 3. Yes, I did get his insurance details. 4. The witnesses made themselves scarce when they realised I didn't need medical assistance. 5. It's not my word against his. 6. I expect him (or his insurance) to pay me as he admitted the accident was his fault. 7. I have photographic evidence. 8. The driver has not reported the accident to the Police and thinks he may get 'done' for dangerous driving. 9. In retrospect insurance with 'British Cycling' is a good idea. The rough description of the accident is:- The driver was waiting in a 100 yard long line of stationary vehicles at temporary 3 way traffic lights. He was by a left turn and decided to nip down the road to miss the queue. He turned left without looking, which was where I was passing vehicles on the near side. I had no time to react and a collision occurred. IMO Its 'driving without due care and attention' although there is a case for 'Dangerous driving' as he knew there was a risk and took that risk. There are loads of Solicitors offering 'No win No, fee deals' and it reasonable that they take their cut but I am seeking an informed personal reference. Thank you
  14. I was knocked off my bike on Sunday. The driver apologised many times and accepted responsibility. What now? I want to claim for the damage caused to my bike and clothing and a bit of compensation for my pain and discomfort, the speed of collision was about 20+mph. Does anyone know of a local , or national, company who will pursue this for me? OR is it possible to D.I.Y. ?
  15. Andrew Tup - on facebook - yorkshire parkruns Although the beginning of January didn’t lead to any immediate upturn in attendance, the last three weeks have. In Yorkshire and the Humber at least! 61/62 events took place across the Yorkshire and the Humber region. The sole cancellation was Horton Park – due to insufficient volunteers. Total attendance was 13372, an increase of 249 (1.9%) compared with last Saturday. The largest attendance was at Hull (652); the smallest was at Bowling Park (50). Of the 61 events that also took place last week, 34 saw an increase in attendance and 27 were lower. The region aggregate attendance was a new post-COVID record. Ancholme Valley Way held their 50th event. As they enter their second year, there is only North Yorkshire Water Park of current events yet to reach that milestone. York’s mean attendance over the last year is precisely 500. This is an increase of 0.08% over their attendance over the previous two years of 499.6. Events that had the same attendances (“doubles”): Millhouses and Roundhay both had attendances of 322, Oakwell Hall and Selby Hall had 159, Barnsley and Millfield had 148, Conyngham Hall and North Yorkshire Water Park had 145, Cross Flatts, Cusworth Hall and Rotherham had 120, Concord and Middleton Woods had 96, and Ancholme Valley Way and Sheffield Castle had 89. The number of events that have seen an increase in average attendance over the last year when compared with the two previously has now grown to 15. A further 15 events show a decrease in attendance of less than 5%. Given this continued change in pattern, I will continue to report this for the next few weeks. The rolling weekly regional average attendance of 10653 over the last year represents an increase of 0.5% when compared with the previous two years* (10600). This is the first time since the return in 2021 that the last year has seen an increase in attendance over the previous period. *This timeframe includes the period when no parkruns were staged between March 2020-July 2021.
