  1. I hate cars, have never learned to drive (I'm now 65) and have always chosen somewhere to live that's walkable from railway stations/bus stops. I most cases there really is no need. Just a personal choice.
  2. Indeed, He needs a more sensible/electable deputy than the current foul-mouthed chavtastic p.o.s. God help us all if "she of little judgement (in more ways than one)" was somehow promoted to be PM. Not a Labour supporter, butstill praying forKeir's health
  3. Exactly why I prefer to visit the city centre early in the day (9-10am ish) - when all the "homeless" are still at home.
  4. How lucky we are to be so enriched. The future looks so bright and promising.
  5. But if they on return to the station then have to queue on the rank for another hour to get their next fare the hourly rate becomes much less rewarding. * I'm not a taxi driver (I can't even drive a car).
  6. The "non-pedalling" (unless police are around) E-bike food delivery 'usual suspects' won't be keeping to the cycle lane. Almost got knocked down on the pavement on Castlegate yesterday by one of the aforementioned 'usual suspects' on his E-bike - despite the more than adequate cycle lane down there. Perhaps he preferred the better river view from the pavement.
  7. I regularly walk past the Nursery St/Wicker/Blonk St junction and you are 100% correct with that one. Very rare not to see a nybody making this illegal turn (right into Blonk St) and usually taxis as you say.
  8. Ten years ago I moved (from Doncaster) to Sheffield and chose my new flat on the basis of all the great real ale/"craft" beer pubs around Kelham Island/Gibraltar St. Had many amazing nights in Shakespeare's & Kelham Island Tavern and met several great friends. Then the yuppies moved in, generally arriving late (approaching 11pm) and freeloading every night "Oh, may we have a little taste?" (free sample of course - tightwads!) scrounging off both the pub (these are often 'high value high ABV' beers) and paying customers (the pubs' beer pricing obviosuly had to factor in all the free samples kindly donated to the freeloaders), The pouring of the free samples also delayed service for those customers who knew what they wanted and were happy to pay the relevant price for same. Additional glass-washing costs too. I was so p*ssed off by these parsiminous types that I stopped using the otherwise excellent pubs they infested. I now drink in what's very much my "local". 5 minutes from home - a proper pub run by a proper 'no-nonsense' landlady. Less "specialist" in terms of high end beers- though I have been enjoying an 8.4% double IPA (on keg) over recent weeks. Hic.
  9. But given that Council Tax (and presumably subsidies to the tram network) increase by 5% year or year why should ENCTS pass holders from Nottingham, Manchester, Birmingham & Croydon enjoy free travel on our tram system whereas our pass holders are not granted reciprocal rights on their networks? We're a gullible soft-touch.
  10. Don't use it for anything (I live fairly centrally but still a 25-30 minute walk). I can get to the perfectly adequate Tesco on Saville St in 10 minutes. so that will do for me. The Old Castle Market would have been within 5 minutes walk though. No disrespect to the excellent Beer 'Central' (in the Moor Market) though - great business run by lovely people (albeit almost in Dronfield)
  11. Looking forward to the 'deculverting' of (at least parts of) the Sheaf as part of the scheme - assuming it actually happens in my lifetime. Given our city's name the river really ought to be more visible.
  12. Assuming this is true I hope his last drowning moments were as painful as possible. Good riddance to the turd.
  13. There is a Cross Country train in that list (the 10:21) but the journey shown is via (and changing at) Wakefield Westgate.
