  1. I can't believe this is 3 years old now. COVID seems a breath ago.
  2. The smell of a really well-cooked burger takes me back to my first visits to Uncle Sam's Chuck Wagon on Ecclesall Road in the mid-70s. As soon as you were seated a waitress (they were always waitresses) would bring you all a cold glass of water. Gawd knows why they stopped doing that. It was really civilised and customer-focused. (To this day I still reckoned their chilli con-carne and melted cheese tacos are unbeatable.) McDonalds and the like are pitiful comparisons after you'd encounter one of Sam's proper flame-grilled burgers.
  3. Nipped down to see the new Ghostbuster flick at Cineworld. Thoroughly good fun with most of the gang back. Of the 3 new additions, Emily Lind and Kumail Nanjiani work, James Acaster doesn't. He's annoying. Was hoping he was the deposable character that gets killed off. Not that lucky. Paul Rudd is as charismatic as ever and the younger actors all put in further mature performances. Alas, no after-credits scene and there's no Sigourney Weaver . That's the only downside. 'Bustin' makes you feel good.... Happy to give it a 7. Loses marks for Acaster and the noticeable lack of Sig.
  4. One here that's probably only for the Zepp aficionados among us. As cover version go this is pretty bloody good! Great set and a lot of thought's gone into the vid.
  5. You should have enclosed a photo for the out-of-town visitors to this site.
  6. Love me some Rosalie! New single. Fairport Convention fans, keep your eyes peeled.
  7. Today it's..... 'Silent All These Years' - Tori Amos 'Remember Me' - Diana Ross 'Who The Hell Is Edgar?' - Teya & Salena 'This Flight Tonight' - Nazareth 'Roots' - Show Of Hands 'Little Darling' - Thin Lizzy 'Photograph' - Def Leppard 'We Belong' - Pat Benatar 'Walk On The Wild Side' - Lou Reed. 'Kingdom Of Madness' - Magnum '(I Never Loved) Eva Braun' - The Boomtown Rats
  8. So many things, but where would the world be without Terry Pratchett, Monty Python and The Beatles? (If we embraced the uppity Scots for a moment we could even lay claim to making marmalade popular the world over) .......and socially we've historically done the Right Thing. Opened our arms to many worthy cases in their time of need; The Ugandan Asians, the Vietnamese boat people, those displace when it all kicked off in Bosnia etc etc. We have many faults but I'll always be proud to be English. Despite Johnny Foreigner's finger-pointing, we're Nice People. I'm hoping that will be remembered hundreds of years from now.
  9. The support act to Robert Plant at the City Hall the other night was a fella called Taylor McCall. I don't like comparisons but if pushed I'd says he's from the same stable of thought as the late Mark Lanegan or maybe Seasick Steve. Here's his latest vid.
  10. Happy 50th birthday today to one of the finest albums ever recorded.
  11. You're a saint mate. Taking pity on the afflicted like that. Nuff respect.
  12. On come on! A line has to be drawn somewhere. Standards man, standards!
  13. My g-kids, ranging from 4 to 10, love them. I enjoyed reading the books to my children too. Great escapism for the younger reader. Adults shouldn't really have an opinion on the content as they were not written for adults. The only opinion that matters is that of the intended audience. The author definitely understands what kids want. I wouldn't let the bairns watch any of her 'Strike' work though 😀.
