  1. I can afford both so your lecture on motoring economics is wasted on me, especially as I was happy to permit. There are people on my street that need a car to get to their job who are on the breadline.
  2. Wasn't a case that we didn't want one, more of a case that folk who live near the hospital aren't exactly well off and couldn't necessarily afford the annual permit charge. We asked whether the hospital could fund the permit scheme for the residents. You can guess where that ended up. ---------- Post added 02-12-2017 at 01:37 ---------- There used to be a scheme where hospital staff and visitors could park for free at Owlerton Stadium and catch the H1 to either end. Not sure if it still applies.
  3. For my sins, I travel this every day. Two trains an hour from Midland. Trans Pennine are normally 3 car trains except the 0708 from Midland and 1718 from Piccadilly which are two 3 cars sets run together. East Midland are normally 4 car trains unless they are short of carriages (happening regularly at the minute) when it's 2. Trains to Manchester generally run to time. Coming back the trains are often late; the EM trains come from Liverpool and get delayed en routs. The Trans Pennine trains aren't as bad but they follow the slow train into Midland, so if that's late then you have the long crawl in. East Midland also stop at Oxford Road. You'll be lucky to get a seat on any of the 3 car Trans Pennine and the East Midland trains on a Friday are packed full of students going home. Either way take something small to watch or listen to and make sure you've downloaded it as there is very poor signal between Dore and Hazel Grove. If I was you I'd get your wife to drop you at Uni tram stop and get the tram to the Station.
  4. If anyone fancies running off some Christmas cheer then feel free to come to seven a side football tonight at Sheffield Hallam pitches at Tinsley. Start at 8.30.
  5. Hi Steve, sent you a PM with my details, for anyone else interested then feel free to come and if you want my details then please PM. Cheers Mick
  6. Hi all, we're looking for new players to join our Wednesday night kick about. It's a casual kick about as opposed to a league so we're happy for players of all abilities to come and join us. There's no need to play every week, you can play as and when you like so we make teams accordingly each week based on the numbers. We're quite an easy going bunch, it's a competitive enough game but we do have a laugh. We've been playing for the best part of 20 years but sadly numbers have dwindled due to old age, families, work etc; if we can't get new players by the end of the month then we will end up folding so hence the email. We start at 8.30 at the Sheffield Hallam University sports pitches on Bawtry Road at Tinsley and play until 9.30 or 10 depending on numbers. Normally it's £5 per person to pay for the pitch, but for anyone giving us a try for the first time then any contribution would be welcome. If you'd like to give it a try then come and join us tonight, we're on the pitch on the left hand side of the car park nearest the motorway; look out for Mick or Daz. Otherwise drop me a PM. Cheers Mick ---------- Post added 12-08-2016 at 14:37 ---------- We'll be playing again this Wednesday, so if you want a run out then come and give it a go.
  7. Evening all, Am looking for someone to do some work on a mid terrace near NGH. Need following: Gutter replacement to front and rear (12 feet long on both sides) with accompanying fascias and soffits. Potential rebedding and repointing of ridge tiles. Chimney repointing and flashing repair Replacement of velux window Please PM me if interested. Cheers Michael
  8. I parked on Oswald Street when I went last year on the basis that the main dual carriageway runs alongside and (hopefully) nobody's going to have a go at your car. I would strongly advise not to park on Westhulme Avenue, as when I was going to game there were some salubrious characters to say the least knocking about, when I came back that way from the match one of the cars had been set on fire - that was a write off and the one either side were heading to the scrapper too. Depending on which side of Sheffield you are on, I would suggest travelling up to Holmfirth and then across to Greenfield and come in that way, it's a much better run than trying to fight over Woodhead or Snake. Mike
  9. There is naff all around the gorund at Yeovil, and they don't serve beer in the ground either, only tea. When we went with Wednesdayite last year, we stopped at a pub just off the M5 Jnct 25 called the Blackbrook Tavern, they'd called in advance and got the food on the go too. There's another pub as you come into Yeovil, but everything is so far away, you may as weel stop en route. Mike
  10. Mandaric has said they want a squad of 23 including 3 keepers, so that leaves 20 outfield players. Weaver as we know has a new contract, and O'Donnell and Jameson have played well enough when they've come in to warrant staying so they should be sorted. There are said to be 6 new players coming into the club over the close season, so that leaves 14 to stay, so who do we have who are club players? In defence I think Buxton is nailed on to stay and I reckon that Otsemebor is probably staying too, given how Megson was disappointed when Beevers went injured I reckon you can count on him being here next year also. Spurr will probably (or should) be kept because he's cheap and he's not that bad a player when he gets in a good team. Hinds hasn't been played much, and despite a couple of good games, especially Birmingham, he's not done enough for me, so can see him going. Morrison and Reynolds were bad buys, the sooner they go the better. But I reckon Morrison might be lucky Jones has had an odd season, first part of season played well second half awful, the last couple of times I've seen him he was shocking, so I reckon he's on his way out. As for Reda Johnson, well for my money he's too clumsy and not aware - poor old Darren Purse was covering for him at Bristol City, his first game I know but some things should be natural. He gives away as many dangerous free kicks for each of the amazing tackles. But I reckon they'll keep him and see how he goes. In midfield I think you can count of Palmer and Nyoni being here, plus Megson's said that he wants JJ, so he should be in the mix. For me Miller has been player of the season, yes I know Mellor's scored the goals, but Miller has been far more consistent than anyone else in the outfield, so he has to stay, he's also been a much better skipper than Purse. Teale and Sedgwick are 'honest' players in my opinion and we all know Meggo likes honest players. Teale is too good a player to go, his crossing needs to be sorted out because the last two months they've been awful but the start of the season a lot of the goals were coming through Teale. I suspect Sedgwick will stay, even if he's kept as a squad player. Coke had four great games in August and has done nothing since, so he can go - the fact that Megson pulled him off at half time the other week says it all. Potter had the great goal at Notts County (the one last week was a deflection so he's not having that!) and done sod all else, so he can go too - plus he's out of contract. O'Connor would have been first on the list to go four months ago, but I'm not so sure now, he's done well since the run started so he may just have earnt himself a place next year. Upfront, Heffernan hasn't had the chances but when he's been given the chance to start he's been very lacklustre - although that might just save him yet. Morrison is just no good, always moaning and whining and having a go at everyone else for been rubbish but doing nowt himself. Of course Madine will be here next year. So I reckon the 14 staying will be: Buxton Otsemebor Beevers Spurr Reda Johnson Palmer Nyoni Miller Teale Sedgwick O'Connor Jermaine Johnson Madine Heffernan Probably wrong, but based on performances over the season (or other factors) the ones I'd keep. 6 players coming in, of which 1 is one we know apparently - which is a shame as I would have Mellor, Baath and Jones. But I reckon Baath will want to stay at Wolves and Jones might think he has a chance to go to a championship side, which leaves old Mellor I reckon - but who knows!
  11. Twaddle. The number of people that use the 86 to make the journeys that it's there for Fulwood to Ecclesall Road are very low. Most of the people who use it can catch the 40/120 or any of the buses following each other down Ecclesall Road. Considering that the 86 is run by step entrance vehicles and the alternatives are low floor, your argument about less mobility is a flawed one, considering that the disabled and pensioners don't pay, the only inconvenience will be time. I fully agree with hanging onto public services, but the whole point is that if the service is to sustain itself then people must use it. First, and any other bus company for that matter, are not going to run buses at a loss, they are no a public sector authority, the only remit they ahve is to make a profit for their shareholders, so if the 86 isn't making money it goes. This then leaves the PTE to pick up the service by using taxpayers money to pay for the service, if this didn't directly affect you, you would be complaining uphill and down dale about waste of taxpayers money running buses carrying fresh air etc etc. If every bus service that had been withdrawn over the last 10 years had ben replaced then our council taxes would be significantly higher. If the only problem that Fulwood are going to face is the fact that the odd person who travels to Ecclesall Road will need to change buses in town, then they ought to spare a thought for those people who don't live in areas with a 5 minute bus service to town.
  12. Am I missing something? The 2 hasn't been a circular for going on 30 years - although everyone calling it the circular. The current 2 hasn't run anywhere south-west for some time. Why are you any worse of then now? Cheers
  13. Can do better than that, there's a school bus that starts on Ripley Street at Hillsborough at 0810 - will take you to King Ted's at Crosspool. Returns after school. If they're going to Broomhill King Ted's then it's 52 or change in town. Cheers
  14. 13 will serve both Wisewood and Loxley in a similar (although not exactly the same) way that the evening and Sunday service runs now. The 57 and 58 will still run via Worrall and Wadsley Cheers
  15. Since it's gone back to once a month, it's been packed again. Flares went downstairs at Reflex because the marketing bods at Mitchells and Butlers reckoned that there were more people who would want a 90s bar the size of Flares/Babylon than a 70s bar, also the clientele had become a bit questionable - and the 80s bar sits better with an 70s place than a 90s place. I was in Hotpants Saturday and I got 4 bottles for £10 - if that's sky high, then you must spend all night in Wetherspoons. Cheers
