  4. i really do appreciate you answering ....but this is why i am struggling this is like trying to read the Guardian in Welsh.. while unicycling backwards.. i really thought i was ok with tech stuff.. and not bad with the DIY but all these words.. ---------- Post added 12-06-2016 at 17:42 ---------- thanks for the reply... i'm not a technophobe(well i never thought i was till just now) but i do like to subscribe to the 'KISS' formula.. less to go wrong i find didn't want to have to run cables all round the house and everything i looked at had cabling diagrams akin to the London tube map (even the wifi options )
  5. i am wanting to put up a simple two camera(one back one front garden) type cctv system ... frankly i am befuddled! i have read reviews and trawled through loads of info but i am no wiser.. i had cctv many years ago and it was just a camera that plugged in and a wire connecting it to a vcr to record... now i'm seeing 'earthnet' and 'wifi' and nvr/dvr can't find the dummies guide to cctv purchasing/installation so here i am asking the main questions are... in a wired system.. does it need wiring to the router? or does wired just mean wiring to the dvr which could be in a room close to where the camera is sited, and not involve cabling going round the house...other than the cable from the second camera at the back of the house i presume? wifi system... so these cameras need to be wired to a power source but the picture signal is sent wirelessly to the dvr box.. does this dvr box need to be plugged into a router ? is one system better than the other? appreciate any help or recommendations and apologise if these questions are a bit on the 'basic' side thanks....kit

  11. can anyone recommend a good man/woman/company to replace my gutters soffits etc (also appreciate anyone giving me an idea of cost as i have no idea what would be a good price.. 3 bed semi, 2 downpipes, S5 area) thanks in advance
  12. the argument of who's job is the hardest or why don't the women apply to be bin men is irrelevent.. 20 years ago(ish) Sheffield city council along with GMB union decided what 'grade' each council job would be (the ones you talk about were all deemed to be in grade 5)... then they decided how much to pay each job within that pay grade ...carer..gardener..dinner lady...road sweeper ... Then to boost the male dominated jobs pay packets they also decided on a bonus system. A bonus for attendance ..a bonus for holding keys to the works shed...a bonus for finishing cutting the grass within specified times, for emptying more bins per day etc. At the time of setting up this system the council was told that it was wrong and that it would lead to discriminatory practice and leave them open to dispute... however.. Sheffield city council relied on the fact that the women would not find out or be bothered to fight for their rights (and they were right ) and why the unions have also refused to support and fight for the women workers..till one person eventually brought a test case to court..( the unions have not supported this fight and passed it straight to the solicitors without ever trying to negotiate with the council..proof being that they have agreed to settle without any consultation with the women involved, and before it can be won in court...again... and therefore set a precedent for future actions) still the council knew they would win as they now only have to pay a paltry compensation to a few people as the claim can only go back 6 years .. thats only a percentage of 900 peoples rightfull back money... The council will be parting with far far less than it would have been had it payed ALL the workers on the SAME pay grade the same money for the last 20 years.
  13. i wouldn't try to bonus-ise our work...we work with people not things ...although often i am asked(or rather told) that i have to fit in several more calls into the same hours (just as the refuse collectors were told to work out how to empty more bins in the same hours to receive there extra pay) however to get a bonus just for turning up to work...well we all could have one of those regardless of task or time... [the actual 'bonus' was approx £500 if no sickness recorded for that year...reducing in value dependant upon sick days used]
  14. no-ones hands are dirtier than a care worker...plenty of bodily fluids!! hard manual work with much moving and handling of delicate people... add to that the mental stress of looking after palliative care patients... it is no easy option.. give me the far better paid road sweepers job, i too would like to have 'earned' a bonus of many hundreds of pounds just for turning up at work!!
