  1. Went from Southampton to Cowes a few weeks ago with the car by Red Funnel. £48 day return. Plenty of room both ways with the holiday season all but finished. Booked when we arrived at the terminal.
  2. One at the top of 'the white drive' which runs by the side of The Shepley Spitfire, Totley. Lower down from the gun site was a large wooden hut which I assume was used by the army. After the war, it became a base for the Phoenix Cycling club.
  3. Moderation with everything was the advice from my father in law when I asked if I could marry his daughter!!
  4. May be it's classed as 'cosmetic treatment' which is not covered by the NHS ?
  5. We've been in the same situation for quite a long time. Contacted the Star newspaper a few years ago & they published an article regarding this sad state of affairs. The local conservation group said they would consider working in the cemetery providing their expenses were paid. Unfortunately it is private land . Are the graves property of the families concerned?
  6. Try Ian who has a stamp shop in Grandby Court, Bakewell
  7. Cannot understand how the boss said both companies would remain separate from one another without any changes. His further statement said prices would be 10% cheaper as a result of the merger. This doesn't make sense.
  8. A buyer cannot determine the actual item you purchased through feedback left by someone who sold you something so - no problem.
  9. Thanks northernboy for coming up with the answer. We are of an age where we used Imperial 66 typewriters & carbon paper!!
  10. Regarding the so called 'Lists' - I can only view the first five pictures in both The Star & Derbyshire Times. Their media expert is supposed to be investigating the problem & coming back to me. That was a week ago. Needless to say, I'm still waiting!!
  11. As a very young boy, used to go on several coach trips from the Cross Scythes pub at Totley.. They used Furniss Coaches but was intrigued when it said on the side of the coaches - 'Exors to Furniss Coaches.' I hadn't got a clue what it meant in my early days.
  12. Fancied working in an office when I left school in 1957. Went to the Youth Employment Bureau on West Street & was handed a long list of companies who had vacancies. Was advised to contact Holman Bros.Ltd at Queen's Tower,Park Grange Road who had the 'finest offices in Sheffield'. Was offered a job at £2/18/6p per week including Saturday mornings.Went home & told mum about the offer who said it was not enough, after taking into account the bus fares from Totley. Contacted the branch manager who said he would contact his Directors at the head office in Camborne, Cornwall. Came back & said they would up it to £3/18/6p !! Worked at Queen's Tower for fifteen years enjoying sitting in a deck chair in the spacious grounds at lunch time. The weekly pay slips were made out on petty cash vouchers. I managed to get a blank one, filled it in as though I was getting £12 per week. Folded it & dropped it on the floor. Uproar followed when someone picked it up !! - Happy days !
  13. Have been with Britannia Rescue for a number of years. On the few occasions I've used them, the local agent has been with me quickly. Suggest you check their prices which are much cheaper than other organisations.
  14. The centre rear seat belt on our Corsa has jammed & won't pull out. Has anyone else had this problem & sorted it out please?
