  1. Hope they make a beter go of it than Copthorne, when they ran it it lost about £2 mill per annum
  2. https://sheffieldfloodclaimsarchive.shu.ac.uk/ My GGGrandfather had a corn mill on Nursery street that was destroyed in the flood . A full detail of all the insurance claims is available in the above link . In true Victorian values property was valued more highly than people
  3. I had dealings with him in the 1990's , we nicknamed him( for those with long memories ) " Mr Pastry " which seemed very apt
  4. IF it is anything like their post christmas sale ,most of the goods will have been brought in from China specifically for the sale
  5. Despite being TPS registered I get them regularily , most are overseas but disguise their numbers to make it seem UK , there are a few chancers that try it on from UK numbers but they are mainly energy or double glazing The main culprits masquerade as Amazon , Microsoft or Visa but it is the same scams every time . You think they would try and change their patter
  6. Up to about 10 years ago probably ate out about 3 times a week , gradually been in decline and is now down to about once a month . That is usually a curry . Cost is a major factor but the over abundance of Italian chains has not helped
  7. Along with , crumbling Schools and Hospital , an ageing and dangerous Rail infrastucture , an ageing sewer and water system , a power generation set up that is past it's sell by date , an army and navy that is under resourced with equipment that is sub standard . We are now on the verge of being Third World . So what are our so called politicians doing about it, answers on a postcard please
  8. Anderson Strathclyde were based at Grange Mill Lane Wincobank , next door to the Swift Levick site , . Headquarters was originally Motherwell they made heavy duty mining equipment . They were taken over/owned by an American firm and subsequently sold on again . There is a facebook page for ex emploees
  9. Seems to have been quite a " Sheffield Character " born nov 1873 died oct1973 served South Africa with the Imperial Yeomanry - elected as the first conservative councillor for Brightside 1912 pic Sheff Daily Tele 2/11/1912 . Served in WW1 with the Queens Own Yorkshire Dragoons , awarded MC 1917 - was a fitter by trade
  10. We should be worried -it all boils down to the fact that succssive Govt's ( no matter who is in power ) have had no coherent energy policy . Even now there is no joined up thinking . We get warnings from the National Grid about potential power cuts this winter but at the same time the goverment is pushing electric vehicles Surely who ever was in charge must have had the common sense to realise that if you close down gas/ coal fired power stations you have to have a replacement that not only generates the same output but inceased output for future consumption but we get the politicians we deserve If it doesn't catch fire . Also a Tesla going up Hagg Hill will use 40 miles worth of power
  11. The Stones " peaked " 1968-1972 with four classic albums , and have lived off them ever since . They have produced the odd good song since then but never reached those earlier heights . But as a live act they are second to none , they are also a money making machine thanks to Jagger being astute enough to surround the band with some vey able financial advisors . The Beatles on the otherhand were a bit more choatic due to the fact they had 3 very talented song writers all vying to get their songs out there . Harrison was very underated and not given his due recognition , Mc Cartney overrated producing little of note after the band split ( who can forget the nausious " Mull of Kintyre " ) and lived off his reputation , Lennon produced some classic songs before being cut down in is prime I liked both but musically preferred the Stones
  12. I was informed by an estate agent that they are used to launder drug money of a particular ethnic origin
  13. I was at the Pink Fairies/ Edgar Broughton gig . Broughton arrived very late and was very beligerent to the City Hall staff bit of a T*** really . The Pink fairies were miles better
  14. Direct Cars are pretty good bought 2 from them in the past - no issues . Some one recommended Fulwood Motor Co to me but I don't know anything about them
  15. Many moons ago I worked in Paris - opposite our offices was a factory with large double doors . A homeless man plonked his self down complete with bedding and possessions in front of the doors meaning no vehicles could get in our out . Move him on you say but said factory was right next the a local union offices every time the factory tried, out would come the protesters I did suggest turning a hose pipe on him but my idea was looked on with horror by the french . Turns out the guy was a scammer and had a history of doing this as he wanted 5000 euro to leave
