  1. There shouldn't be an issue, but unfortunately due to oblivious drivers this is still an unsafe thing to do. Speaking from personal experience here. (Unless by "plenty of space" you mean "enough space for a car to fling its passenger door open without warning and still not hit you").
  2. Does anyone have any info about which parts of Endcliffe are going to be closed off for the Folk Forest event this weekend?
  3. I'm not against the idea but I just wish the council could solve problems in ways that actually recognise the reasons behind them, rather than just making enforcement stricter. A red lined zone isn't going to stop people dropping off their kids at school - it will just cause them to relocate the to the closest available non-red-lined area, which will just end up inconveniencing a different set of residents and creating safety issues elsewhere. Instead, the council could put more effort into solving the problems that are stopping kids from being able to bus, walk or cycle to school. General safety-focused road improvements around schools (speed limits, crossings, crossing patrols, etc), improved public transport, and proper cycling infrastructure are what's needed. Another approach would be to designate an official drop-off zone near the school, make it permit-based, and charge people for the permits (free for disabled). Give people the option to pay for convenience.
  4. I'm sure the forum moderators will take care of any bullying. I don't see any in this thread though, just valid criticism of a public servant. He still doesn't seem to actually be doing anything much. He missed the crucial Brexit vote last night. A year after being elected he still hasn't actually spoken in parliament. He's supposed to represent his constituents but he is letting us down. Putting aside his mysogynistic and homophobic comments, he just doesn't seem like he's right for the job. Hopefully he will also see this and offer his resignation soon.
  5. Many do. But not everyone has this option. See my earlier post. I'm all for encouraging active travel and preventing dangerous parking but there needs to be *somewhere* where kids can be safely dropped off.
  6. I'm not arguing about semantics, just a little surprised at your statement that people with learning difficulties can't get degrees. I have no idea what specific problems O'Mara has. Beyond what he himself has stated, that he has cerebral palsy and autism. ---------- Post added 13-07-2018 at 15:10 ---------- I'm no expert but a quick google suggests that intellectual disability is common among those with cerebral palsy. (1 in 2).
  7. Nonsense. They're called learning difficulties, not learning inabilities.
  8. Just seen a van park on double yellow lines, half on the pavement, outside a Sheffield primary school. During drop off time too. You'll never guess what logo it had on the side...
  9. I'd walk or bus them both to their schools but would probably have to put one of them in a breakfast club as it would be physically impossible to get them both to school at the appropriate time. ---------- Post added 12-07-2018 at 17:00 ---------- As I said, I would genuinely love to have another alternative. Bottom line is that I want my kids to get to school safely and on time, and dropping them off by car is the only way I can do that.
  10. From a parent's perspective this seems a bit draconian and short sighted. Depending on what radius around the school are going to be restricted. I would love to be able to avoid having to drop off my kids at school by car, I really would. At the moment walking/cycling are not feasible due to safety issues. There is no suitable bus service. Dropping them off by car is the only option available to me. All the available spaces in the vicinity of their schools are already full most mornings. Usually I manage to find somewhere, but I admit that *occasionally* I do stop on a double yellow for ~90 seconds (not right outside school and hopefully without causing anyone inconvenience). But only because I really can see no other solution. I'm all for enforcing the existing restrictions in the immediate vicinity of the school, but a bit of consideration for those who have no other option would be good.
  11. I only ever see them when I'm not looking for them. Any time I actually actively go looking for one because I need to get somewhere, there's none within a mile radius.
  12. I think it's just a credit of "points" but I'll check. ...yes, parking in a preferred parking area = +1 points on your ofo score - not really worth bothering with.
  13. Quite right - however Ofo *could* be doing more to encourage people to park the bikes more responsibly. For example, there's very little incentive to park in one of their "recommended" parking places. And even if you do, there's a chance they won't register it properly because of GPS inaccuracy.
  14. I've had issues unlocking a couple of times. The main problem seems to be a dodgy bluetooth connection between the phone and the bike, but if you wait a minute or so the app should display a 4-digit pin which you can use to unlock the bike. The other issue I've had is that bikes which have been reported as "illegally parked" are locked until someone from the company can come and check on them, which is understandable and wouldn't be a problem except that for some reason they still show up on the map.
  15. After going on a few rides in the first week I'm not finding these very useful any more. Last week I walked around for ages looking for a bike, visited two locations on the map but neither bike was visible. Frustratingly there seems to be no way to report a missing bike in the app? Ended up getting the bus. Today I followed the map to a bike which *was* where it said it would be, only to be told on the app that it was "locked by ofo" due to "illegal parking" (when I got there it was parked perfectly reasonably)... why display it on the map if it's unavailable? Ended up on the bus, again. The app is still rather clunky and needs to be regularly closed and reopened to get it to refresh the map. Bikes which were plentiful in the first week seem to be thin on the ground now. Hope it improves.
