I can't believe this - so many travesties but this is huge for those of us who have lived in the area all our lives - surely this building could have been saved? -

Think about what you are saying - I know one of the Mum's who was there - it was her friend's Son - for goodness sake stop trying to make this even more gruesome than it is - it was awful for all of them and we need less moralising and more joined up thinking on this one - put yourselves in their position and hope it isn't repeated. -

Northern General Social Club Memories
Windmillgal replied to chrissyd09's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
I worked there for some time and was a regular at the Social Club - I even worked there when the Steward left and had connections with the Committee. -
Oh what memories - I went to the Infants, Juniors and Seniors but left to go to Hinde House to do my GCE's. Shiregreen High it was called then: Mr Broadhead (Maths and best shot with a blackboard rubber) Mr Lawton Miss Bennett Miss Warren Miss Carrington I loved that school - they have replaced it with a new build and re-named all the schools Hinde House - no individuality any more.

Windmill Lane although not technically Flower Estate -
Does anyone know why Jenkin and Newman Roads were closed last Saturday pm - Police would not let us through - I had to go via Ecclesfield Road (wood bottom) to get to Firth Park - all they said was they had an incident?
-
I also worked at NGH from 1972-1975 firstly in the Technical Offices and then Casualty (as A&E used to be called) - the old building on the Herries Road drive - I worked on the Orthopaedic Desk.

What bull**** Nothing wrong with the church or Windmill Lane. Perhaps if people had frequented it more it would not have closed down and now potentially become a Mosque!!!
