  1. Well there's been some very odd comments from a variety of Israeli politician, both before and after the Hamas atrocity. Far-right minister: Nuking Gaza is an option, population should ‘go to Ireland or deserts’ Fortunately he's not part of the security cabinet A minister from the extremist Otzma Yehudit party says one of Israel’s options in the war in Gaza is to drop a nuclear bomb on the Strip. Israeli MP Ayelet Shaked who called for genocide of Palestinians named Justice Minister 2015 A well-known far-right Israeli politician with strident views toward Palestinians, such as labeling them all terrorists and wishing death to all Palestinians mothers, was appointed justice minister by PM Netanyahu "They have to die and their houses should be demolished so that they cannot bear any more terrorists," Israeli lawmaker says its becoming clear that 'all Gazans must be destroyed' Israeli MK Moshe Saada said calls for Gaza and its population to be destroyed had seeped across the political spectrum. An Israeli lawmaker from Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party has said that it was becoming increasingly clear to Israelis that "all Gazans must be destroyed", Israeli media reported Tuesday. Israeli rabbi justifies killing of babies Investigative journalist David Sheen explains the education Israelis soldiers receive at top military academies in Israel. In a 2019 lecture at the University of Zurich, Sheen discloses the racist and extremist teachings of prominent rabbis delivering lectures to soldiers. For example, rabbi Eliezer Kashtiel advocates for the return of slavery, expressing discriminatory views against non-Jews. Another rabbi, Giora Redler, downplays the Holocaust and praises Adolf Hitler. Rabbi Yosef Kelner condemns secular Jews, labelling them as traitors deserving death. Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburgh, who published a book called The King's Torah, says, ‘There is justification for killing babies if it is clear that they will grow up to harm us.’ And lastly a little compilation video, though there are many more quotes available which echo the ones above I'm not an afficionado of the site hosting that video, indeed som in government want to outlaw it, but this is about the content, not the video host.
  2. Fairy typical to attack the person fronting the video, rather than dealing with the substance of the story; that is the FOI request by Private Eye regarding possible police bias and collusion with the the Tories. I really wonder how this can justify the time for over a dozen police officers. "Private Eye seem to be reporting that the Chief Constable of the GMP spoke at a right wing libertarian conference last year. He was also proposed by the Tory, James Daly, who cannot answer what Rayner has done wrong despite reporting her, as new Met Police chief, on the back of his anti woke speech at the conference." Private Eye Magazine @PrivateEyeNews Greater Manchester Police chief Stephen Watson, who unexpectedly reopened the investigation into Angela Rayner’s addresses, spoke at the last Tory conference. The appearance raised questions about his political impartiality, as since the event he's garnered Tory support for leading the Metropolitan Police due to his "robust" approach. He’s backed by MP James Daly... who advocated for the Rayner investigation's reopening. Full story in the new Private Eye, out now.
  3. Have you observed more than the UK officials who are responsible for assessing asylum applications? I've not looked recently, but last time I checked, a bit over 70% of appications were granted; this rises to over 80% of those crossing the channel on small boats. Might this be why the processing backlogs are deliberately being increased? I suspect Sunak & Co need the boats to keep on coming, so that the occupants can be blamed for all the country's ills; They claim to be acting, and being twarted by Labour, even though the Tories have a majority in both the Houses of Lords & Commons. This current cabinet, like its predecessors, have completely failed to minimise immigration; both asylum seekers, and those with visas.
  4. I would suggest that The Israeli troops are being controlled by their leaders, both political and military. Evidence of torture as nearly 400 bodies found in Gaza mass graves Some victims found at two hospitals were ‘buried alive’ while others were ‘executed’ by the Israeli military. Meanwhile in the UK, the CAA & Gideon Falter etc, get more main stream publicity lying about largely peaceful demonstrations against the atrocities, than reports about the actual war crimes themselves.
  5. Where are they going to work? UK unemployment rate is currently a shade under 4.5% , Rwanda is greater than 15% overall, with youth employment well over 20% See also the link in post 1071 on this thread
  6. Shorthand I guess, and not an expression I use personally as it's too easy to be countered in the manner you suggest. On a slightly deeper level, it's a shorthand description of a group of people who fail to make the distinction between Patriotism and Nationalism. The former are concerned with everyone who lives here and our our country as a whole, wish to unite us, and celebrate the best we have to offer everyone. Nationalists on the other hand, rail against foreigners, are prone to wearing a flag, listening to Yaxley-Lennon & Fox, violently breaking through police cordons, and attacking police horses. The following article from a political scientist is written with the US in mind, but has close parallels over here. What is the difference between nationalism and patriotism? The Conversation Patriotism encompasses devotion to the country as a whole – including all the people who live within it. Nationalism refers to devotion to only one group of people over all others.
  7. Does this jog your memory? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_Minister's_Questions#Absence_of_the_prime_minister_or_leader_of_the_opposition
  8. How would anyone here know, and why is it anyone else's business, other than his, any family, and the those who granted him asylum. He's here, now legally, and will hopefully make a positive contibution to our society, including paying taxes etc. We have a shortage of phamacists, so as long as he's competent when qualified, we should welcome him.
  9. "It" Is that the level to which rational discussion has descended? The means of arrival, whether strictly legal or not, has no bearing under international law as to whether a claim has legitimacy the initial claim must be submitted within a fixed period from arrival. Provided he made that claim in time, he then lives here legally, pending a decision on his status. The guy concerned clearly has had his asylum claim accepted, as he's continued his education here, and will now legally have refugee status. A full pharmacy course lasts either 4 or 5 years, depending on the structure of the degree; he's apparently nearing qualification. An applicant doesn't get accepted onto a degree course without previous qualifications, so he either has a transferable qualification when he arrived, or has studied here for A levels or similar. It will have taken some time for his application to clear, so I'm guessing he's been hear at least five or six years legally, so probably didn't cross the channel in a rubber boat.
  10. France has removed them from sale in coastal areas from the various legitimate sports and marine dealers. They are now being made to order in China and available from sites such as Alibaba; $380, you can specify size, hard or soft floors, engine size, lifevests included etc. This is one link, I'm sure I have others somewhere https://www.infomigrants.net/en/post/38784/made-in-china-how-smugglers-import-boats-to-continue-with-irregular-channel-crossings Link to a report at the foot of this article You will need to register for a free account to download it; worked OK for me. New report on small boat crossings launched by Professor Thom Brooks Durham Law School
  11. Yes, it's disgraceful that they should feel the need to. CST have likely had a presence there for some time, and may or may not have increased their staffing and or visibility. Record funding will protect Jewish communities from harm HMG Feb 2024 Jewish communities will receive dedicated security and protection thanks to the biggest financial commitment ever made by the government to tackle antisemitism. At the Community Security Trust’s (CST) annual dinner last night (Wednesday 28th February), Prime Minister Rishi Sunak pledged to give the organisation, which was established to protect Jewish community sites, more than £70 million over the next 4 years, as part of the Jewish Community Protective Security Grant. The funding will increase security at a range of Jewish buildings across the country, including schools, synagogues and other facilities used by the Jewish community. Meanwhile, in other news Islamophobia report highlights Conservative party’s institutional failings Financial Times. Highly critical inquiry says comments used by prime minister were insensitive to Muslim communities Fortunately there is action being taken to protect other religious institutions too; I wonder now much the necessity for this is due to the previous link. £117m to protect UK mosques and Muslim schools from hate attacks BBC More than £117m will be spent to protect mosques, Muslim schools and community centres in the UK from hate attacks over the next four years, the government says. Home Secretary James Cleverly said the investment would give "reassurance and confidence" to British Muslims. It will be spent on measures including CCTV cameras, alarms and fencing. The announcement comes in response to concerns the Israel-Hamas conflict is fuelling division in the UK. Mr Cleverly said: "Anti-Muslim hatred has absolutely no place in our society. We will not let events in the Middle East be used as an excuse to justify abuse against British Muslims. "The prime minister has made clear that we stand with Muslims in the UK. See Also https://muslimcensus.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/MuslimCensus-x-MEND.pdf Overall, 35%of Mosques experience a religiously motivated attack at least once a year. Of the mosques that have experienced attacks, 83% have been attacked at least once a year. Overall again, 9% report that their Mosque or Islamic institution is the target of attacks “very frequently” defined as at least every 3 months. I'm genuinely curious as to whether the need in Gateshead etc. is a perceived threat, or a real one; if the latter, then it should certainly be condemned every bit as much as threats to any other group or individual. If a perceived threat, then some actvist groups, maybe even the CAA, are achieving their ends. It may be a mixture of the two of course
  12. I'm no great fan of Labour particularly, but until the next government is formed after an election, how can they have any idea of what's achievable without seeing the state of the books. Current government policy isn't even being announced in parliament, so it can't be scrutinised by any of our elected representatives.
  13. I'm sad to say if you've seen it repeated on any mainstream news channel, those reports likely pale into insignificance compared to some of the stuff I wish I hadn't seen; no, unusually for me, I'm not posting links to any of the Twitter stuff. I've certainly not visited the Telegram channels etc 😢
  14. Other people seem to have watched the St Georges day videos closer than me; The time when the flagbearers tried to break through the police cordon to Whitehall (outside the designated event area), was the police horse hit with an umbrella, a baton or a walking stick?? Were they supported by an ex Mossad employed security team?
  15. Without doubt The MET have disgraced themselves on a number of occasions, but the policing of the pro Palestinian demonstrations certainly doesn't seem to be one of them. Of the very real disgraces, the Daniel Morgan case springs readily to mind, not to mention Sarah Everard. Met Police vows to stamp out corruption after Daniel Morgan apology Financial Times. I've mentioned Chris Hobbs before; retired ex-MET officer. Here's a very good summary by him of the march recently making news headlines for all the wrong reasons. https://www.policeoracle.com/article-library/comment-so-keeping-people-safe-could-cost-the-met-commissioner-his-job/
