  1. The brick houses were build for Derbyshire Police prior to the 1967 land grab by Sheffield. They were identical to the pair on Fox Lane and a further two on the Basegreen side of the Nab. These were the standard Derbyshire Police type usually with an office in the middle. I remember Pc's Bill Jackson, Alec Donaldson and Mick Harper lived there at some point and my father lived on Fox Lane at what was then the Police Station. There were also Police Houses on the Henry Boot Estate and a further one on Fox Lane.
  2. I can remember going to a game with my dad and the good Father. We lived on Fox Lane at Frecheville so I didn't see much of him, Fr McDonagh that is!
  3. Thanks for the confirmation, no pun intended! My father was a regular visitor as the local Sergeant as well as being a fellow football fan.
  4. There was a Parish Priest who was a great Blades fan. No Church function was allowed to interfere with his duty to his season ticket. Fr McDonagh rings a bell but I'm not certain. Can anyone put me right.
  5. Does anyone remember the button factory? I remember there was always a load of mother of pearl offcuts outside. There was also the Severquick factory, I think Reg Unwin was the boss. Jim Disney and Pete Spear were the village policemen. I think it was David Disney who became a GP near Derby where Jim retired to. Then first Police Station was in Frecheville and then the one on Occupation Lane was built. My dad was there as Sgt until 1967 when Sheffield took over. I remember going on the football trips from the Plover. I remember someone got left in Darlington after the Blades played Newcastle in the FA Cup. (3-1 to Utd...Billy Russell hat trick)
  6. I realise this post dates from 2007 but I'm sure my dad would have laughed to see himself described as the King of Frecheville! Sadly he is no longer with us along with my twin sister Sheila. Myself and brother Chris are still about though. The Ford Prefect was YRB 510 so digger digger was spot on! Not sure whether it's possible to get in touch on here but I'd love to hear from you. ---------- Post added 17-01-2014 at 14:37 ---------- Harold Price from Eckington...my brother Chris had a Saturday job on there. ---------- Post added 17-01-2014 at 14:40 ---------- They were proper fishcakes, real fish between two potato slices.....and a bag of scraps. Food heaven. ---------- Post added 18-01-2014 at 09:37 ---------- I see Dentists are mentioned on here but am I alone in thinking the school dentist was an absolute butcher. Took me years to get over going there and the visits to the school clinic. The T.B. jab (or was it smallpox) was a breeze after that. On the subject of the school, does anyone remember the School Ship, SS Flamenco? I can remember a big model in the school hall and there was a trip once to Liverpool to see her. The crew even put tea on, fruit salad out of a tin! Happy days... ---------- Post added 19-01-2014 at 16:28 ---------- I've been corrected by brother Chris regarding Harold the fruit and veg man....Harold Knight is the correct name. Must have been getting him mixed up with Prices fruit and veg in Eckington! Old age that's what it is.....
