  1. Thanks... I'll see what I can find! I would have booked earlier... but my uncle announed a month ago that he was getting married (well... now is actually as he got married in Hong Kong a few days ago) and hes coming back for a family celebration... so we have to go to it... which means away. I'll see what I can do though. Thanks anyway. Vicky
  2. Hi, Can anyone suggest a good cattery please? I have two cats and I need to put them in one over Christmas as I have to go away and the normal person cant feed them due to being away too! Is possible one thats also not too expensive and in Sheffield. Thanks Vicky
  3. Thanks for the advice everyone. As for the beans, no we started them off in pots and didnt plant them till they were large enough to climb round the poles I had in...... I didnt think woodlice went for them either and I've been growing beans for ages and never had this problem till last year! As with the lettuces and Cauliflowers, theyve gone for the leaves. They were doing quite well until the woodlice got them and now theyre looking a bit forlorn all chewed up. As as them being edible... well... it would be revenge, you eat my plants and I'm gonna eat you! But I think i'll pass! Fried woodlice doesnt exactly make me go mmmmmmm!
  4. I didnt know there was a woodlice powder, but I shall go and have a look for it. Thanks!
  5. *sigh* I know many people think otherwise but I have lived in Manor for the past two years and love it. All the people around here (Manor Park Centre) are very friendly and all look out for each other. I have Xmas cards from all my neighbours every year and they all make sure that if I'm away for a few days that my house is safe. I lived in Walkley, Hillsborough and Netherthorpe before this and I much much prefer here. However.. here is the BUT.. you have to look at the specific area you are thinking of buying. Some areas are slightly rougher than others. And also.. is the house going to increase in value? The house i live in (its rented) has been valued at about 90 thousand.. however, its a three bedroomed semi with a huge garden and its own driveway.. the price is so cheap because of the reputation.. so you have to think about that too. So no, the reputation isnt deserved, but as it does have this rep that might/will effect the value of your house.
  6. Hi, i need some advice about woodlice I have terrorising my garden. Every year i grow Runner beans and last year I found the woodlice were eating their way into the beans and making them 'nests' as they were breeding in them. I have never ever seen this behaviour before but it meant I had to throw away about half of the beans I grew. This year I have started some lettuces and once again the woodlice in my garden are having a go at them. I have no idea how to keep them away or who to ask as this is new to both me and my friends and mum. Does anyone have any idea how to keep them away from my veggies and garden in general please?
  7. Sozz22: Aye, I appreciate what you are saying. I know that Xmas is a bad time for rehoming, having volunteered at a cats home before I have seen that. But I honestly do think that not all children will lose interest in a pet. If its a gift now or in July, then the risk is the same. My parents didnt make me learn responsibility from the Hamster, I just knew I wanted a pet and knew when I had him, that i wanted to take care of him. But I suppose in some cases you are right, the animals are not always cared for... still I hate to tar everyone with the same brush.
  8. You know, when I was small I was given a Hamster as a Xmas pressie, it was great. I looked after it and he lived for four years! I think as long as the child knows that he/ she will have to care for it and the parents are responsible there is nothing wrong with giving a pet for Christmas.
  9. HI again, To be honest i dont know whether the houses are council or association. I know mine is privately rented.... to be honest it was extremely cheap because of the bad rep. Like I said though.... I honestly cant say about the other areas of Manor.... just where I live. It looks rough but its nice. Other areas may be different though. I hope you find somewhere nice too! Vicky
  10. Hi, I live in Manor and it has such a bad reputation... which personally i dont think is earned anymore. I cant speak for the other parts but I live in Manor Park centre, which is lovely. It seems to be mainly elderly people or people with families. We were welcomed into the community there and every year the only people we have are Carol singers or friends and neighbours! So in my view Manor Park centre is lovely. I also have a car which is parked in front of my house and have had no problems with it to date. Hope this helps some and also helps get it a much better reputation... the one it now deserves! Vicky
  11. Wow, Thanks guys.... lots of places to look! I'll get my other half to start looking so watch out everyone.... a very scary thing is about to happen... my other half is about to learn to drive !!! (eeppp!!!) *grin* Cheers Vicky
  12. Hi, My partner is wanting to learn to drive. Can anyone suggest a really good driving instructor/ school in Sheffield please? We'd prefer as cheap as we can get but that picks up at home as he has no transport! Thanks guys. Vicky
  13. Hi, My other half works for Ranstad and they are good. He usually gets something straight away. They do all sorts I think. Office and other stuff... worth a look anyway. Vicky
