Hi from Oz, does anyone remember Joe Dams who lived on Halifax Road in the 50`s first house to the left from Deersland had three brothers, went to foxhill then Meynell, left in 55. Also, Eric Clews, Tom and David Fox, Roland Nailor all of Deersland Mount. -

The Most Depressing Place In Sheffield
Beechie replied to BarryRiley's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Would have been better to ask about the best place, a lot quicker:) -
Why not consider paragliding, the most purest form of flying. May not be the safest but hey, we pass this way but once.

Fruit and veg from the back of a horse and cart, a live chicken from the rag and bone man, watch the lamp lighter adjust the timing clock once a week, see the knocker up man with his long pole. The sheer delight of throwing a big overcoat onto the bed on a cold winters night. I even remember being treated by a doctor in hall that had over twenty patients waiting, seated in chairs around the wall all looking on.

Charlie selling veg from cart in 60's S5 area
Beechie replied to CrazyDazy's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
Old charlie and his horse used to come into Deerslands Mount every friday evening in the warmer months sold fruit and veg and every time his horse dropped a load of "manure" it was a race between the kids as to who could scoop it up first and it went straight onto the rhubarb and strawberries. We also had the rag man who would give you a live chicken for any rags. We also had the knocker up with his long pole and back in the late 40`s we even had the old lamp lighter. -

School days, best days or worst days of your life?
Beechie replied to shaznay's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
Went from Fox Hill to Meynell Road in 1950 and I swear that some of the teachers were total bullies to us kids. I know now that those teachers had real problems and what they did back then would have them in jail now. I joined the army because I did not know any better but turned out ok. -
Hey Starduste, i`m from Shefield and I`m also in Oz, problem is I think all my randy left me.

I left Sheffield in 1962 for Oz and often wonder what happened to a lass called Christine Sherwin who lived on Middlewood road,( I think) pretty as a picture and a heart of gold. 47 years to late but I still have the memories.
