  1. I stand corrected. Thanks Planner1 for your explanation. It's infuriating when drivers simply block this box junction due to their inconsiderate driving.
  2. I think you should check with planning regulations. Aren't there planning laws governing shop frontage advertising and facades, etc.?
  3. I've noticed that vehicles, travelling away from town, sometimes move forward into the box junction when their exit isn't clear. When the lights change, traffic emerging from Myrtle Road* can't move, as they have been effectively blocked by drivers sitting in the box junction. The camera at this junction takes photos of these cars, and hopefully, when the 60 quid fine and 3 penalty points on their license arrive, the drivers may learn not to do it again. *yes, that does include me!
  4. Due to a recent change in the law, every existing postal voter needs to re-register if they want to receive a postal vote. You must return this form by April 18 if you wish to register as a postal voter in the forthcoming local elections. The law now requires election officers to have the signature of every postal voter, and as well election officers must scan a minimum of 20% of all declarations of identity (which accompany returned postal votes) - to ensure that signatures match. I understand that most councils are going to scan 100% of all postal vote declarations, including Sheffield. The change in the law is to try and prevent electoral fraud occuring. As some postal voters only apply for a postal vote for a single election, you are being asked whether you want to continue voting by this means at subsequent elections.
  5. Quite agree with you Betty1. This thread has gone seriously off topic, what with resurrecting the Hillsborough Football Disaster, and now the recent Niche nighclub matter. Back on topic..... here are my replies to the questions that the Original Poster asked.... 1 = No 2 = No 3 = No 4 = I've never been to a football match
  6. Haven't you overlooked that the Roman Catholic church (and other "religious venues") would object to having to offer free condoms? If a pensioner makes a benefit application - why should they also receive a free condom? Why should it be the responsibility of the council to "improve the cities {sic} sex lives"? Also, do you have an estimate as to how much this idea would cost in increased council tax?

  9. How about relocating it at Meadowhell uups I mean Meadowhall, get rid of the eco unfriendly place and replace it with some attraction that is eco friendly. With the river and canel near by a water park sounds very attractive but I only dream. The reality is there's no where big enough in Sheffield to build a place of that size and magnitude; there's too many hills. Sheffield should be proud of the attractions that it already has, all the wonderful parks, the beautiful coutryside that surrounds the city to name but two.
  10. I think you've posted without noticing that this thread was started in 2003 - as more recent posters have pointed out! The Sexual Orientation Regulations, currently going through Parliament, will of course make illegal any discrimination against homosexuals in the provision of goods or services, including service in a restaurant.
  11. When I joined the forum, I chose nobikejohn as my forum name because I'd just had my motorbike stolen from my garage at home whilst I was at work one evening. I was, quite literally, nobikejohn! I reported the theft to the police, but as none of my neighbours had seen anything suspicious happening. I resigned myself to the loss of my bike, and to the thieves getting away with their crime. Imagine my surprise when one week later, the police visited me to say that they had recovered my bike! Sadly, it was a mess, and beyond repair. It transpired that, acting on information received, the police had kept under survellience a second-hand shop in Hull, only two few miles down the road from where I live. They eventually raided the premises, and found my bike in bits in the back of a wagon, whereupon the shop owner was arrested. Today I opened my mail to find a letter - "In the matter of Regina v Jeffrey Taylor". The letter informed me that at Hull Crown Court On 21 February, he was found guilty of handling five items of stolen goods, including my motorbike, and has been sentenced to 4 years 3 months imprisonment. I am of course delighted to know that the police do indeed catch criminals, and am very grateful that I have been kept informed of the outcome of the trial. Good news! Pity the sentence wasn't longer!
  12. no top of a mountain and being able to see for miles in all directions, looking down on the world - is pure bliss:)

  15. it takes electricity in quite times to pump the water up from the lower llyns up to the ones at the top of the moutains in the two hydroelectic power plants that i know of in snowdonia. the power they produce is used during peak times only to build a power plant like this would required millions of tons of rock to be removed and transported away using lorries which use oil, the fumes of which pollute the environment. the cost of one hydroelectic plant like Dinorwic at Llanberis would cost 100's of millions of £'s which would build 1000's of wind turbines which are less polluting to construct. the only problem with them is they have to be situated in a suitable area, one that does not destoy the environment that they are supposed to protect
