Old Sheffield pubs from the past gone for ever

I think you'll find that's the Haychatter. Been closed for a few years now after the landlady died. I think her son lives there now. -

Actually 2 up, 3 down if you count the off shot kitchen. My mate Graham Turner lived in the front room with his mum. Graham's mum and Custard's mum were sisters. -
its called Boots Folly....supposed to have been built by Charles Boot's workmen when they were short of work during the depression, but various urban myths exist about it.

The teachers you mention arrodbo were all from Chaucer. I remember them well, especially Mr Sid (Buster) Newham who was indeed deputy head when Chaucer first opened....I had him for maths and had many a beating....great bloke though.

I was at Parkside Road school from about 1955 til 1962. Martin Slater was in my class. I also remember a lot of the names you mention, particularly John Simmonite who was my mate Billy's younger brother. I remember the teachers Mr Cohen, Miss Tingle, Mrs Hornsby, Mrs Jackson and the head teacher Miss Leesley. We used to have great fun Friday morning walking through the park and then down Hillsborough to the baths, and then walking back again with our midget gems!

There were a few shops just past the Vic between Burnell and Burrowlee Roads. I remember going to the post office there which had an old postmaster that looked like Capt Mainwaring in dad's army. There was also Pauline's wool shop, a butcher called Jack and the beer off on the corner. Mr Ridge had the paper shop on the corner of Borough Road and Mr Buckley had the fruit shop next door. Whenever my grandmother who lived on Lofthouse Road used these shops, She'd say she was "going across the field"...what was that all about?

My mum bought me my first electric guitar, an Elgita Musima 707 from Milner's when I was about 14 (1966). I wanted to go to Wilson Pecks but they didn't do "shoppers cheques"

George and Margaret Siddall....Margaret lived at Dungworth for quite a while. I think their son lives at the Haychatter now.

Would that be Gordon Cumming who managed the training facility at Belmont House?
