  1. Sorry Mate. Supercol is correct Victoria Station which was accessible via Wicker/Spital Hill or Victoria Station Approach. Was LNER and Midland Station on Sheaf Street is and still is LMS. I used to Train spot and travel from both stations when I was a youngster so I think I would have known.
  2. I would say Lickszz is correct with Hagg Hill, it may be just in the green belt but it is one hell of a Hill going up or Down. Also Hollins Lane at Stannington is another close contender. Regards John.m
  3. Re the Arts Tower Construction. Before the Arts Tower was built, there was a road which ran from the junction of Winter Street and Bolsover Street at the top of Weston Street which ran where the Arts Tower is today, to the top of Houndsfield Road, the trams from Town came up Houndsfield Road and went left for Crookes or straight across for Walkley. There was a Picture House on the corner where the New Chemistry Block is, I think it was called the Scala ???. The name of the road where the walkley trams went I have forgot, there was also some very large houses where the Arts Tower Car park is, when the Walkley trams route was changed to the 95 bus route the bus went straight down Bolsover street to what was a crossroads to Upper Hanover Street and Brook Hill, No Netherthorpe Road. The building was opened in 1965 but I cannot remember when construction started would say about 1963. I did in fact work on Gell Street from 1963 - 1969 at which time I worked at the Chemistry Building so I remember it quite well. Regards John.m
  4. I remember very well going on the Victoria - Manchester line when I was a kid. I went a number of times to Belle Vue and also Train spotting to Manchester. It would be great if the old line could be re-opened I think Sheffield City Council and Manchester City Council should get together and link there Metro Trams, could be the biggest Metro in the World. Failing that get the good old steam locos back on the rails. Also did anyone do any train spotting on Bernard Road above Victoria Staion, used to sit on the wall on Saturday lunch time and whatch I think was the Boat Train coming to Victoria, quite often was a Coronation Class Loco. Regards john.m
  5. I remember Redgates as a child of about 10 year old about 1957 used to go in town on my own on Saturday and head for Redgates from Division Street, not much in the way of buildings around in those days as a lot was bombed. I would head for the basement and stand watching the Disabled chap operate the Hornby Train set in the middle of the basement I could stand there for hours. Anyone remember it. A bit different today, the last time I went into the shop was about 20 years ago. Regards John.m
  6. Hi, I for one would be very interested in a copy of a book dedicated to Walkley. I lived on Providence Road for 29 years until I moved to a village in Lancashire in 1977. Most of Walkley in my early years are distant memories, I have very little in the way of Photo's as I was only young. I have lots of where I lived as my Father had a very large garden which was more like a farm as he had Pigs, chickens, rabbits and even a goat. I do remember the Palladium as I went there twice a week also all the well known shops have gone. Regards John.M
  7. The Mill I remember well. It used to sell animal foods etc, as when I was a kid I would meet my Dad from work and carry Chicken food and Rabbit food back up to Walkley where I lived at the time. This was in the 1950's then it was renovated and Comet took it over I bought a TV from there. Is the Wheel still on the side of the building. Regards John.M
