Carling Academy - Pet Sounds New Years Farce
Scuba replied to GamlaStan's topic in Going out in Sheffield
ok, having worked in clubs of various shapes and sizes over the last 15 years i can see that gamlastan and the other usual haters don't really have a clue about what they're talking about for the following reasons: clubs generally close the bar for at least 15 min on nye a venue of 2300 capacity will have big queues if everyone buys tickets - nothing you can do about this short of having 3 or 4 entrances a cloakroom will fill up more quickly when it is particularly cold (don't need a genius to work this one out) you can moan and groan all you like but it won't change things next year or the year after that - just get there early and make sure you have a drink in your hand way before midnight boring! -
the republic (gatecrasher) opened in dec 95 and the monday night was called the bomb for at least 2 years, blessed and bubblegum have probably been running since about 98 or 99. rise and love2be have not been continuously running by any means. stardust - dunno. gatecrasher aka crasher has been running since at least 95 which would make it 11

What was it like living in Kelvin Flats?
Scuba replied to Cliff Clavin's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
it was no different from park hill really - grim to look at with lots of regular people living inside, but scallys in groups hanging about on the ground floor. my lasting memory of kelvin is walking underneath on my way to langsett road from crookesmoor and being closely missed by a nappy thrown out of a 3rd floor window. nice! -

it's like saying, do you like to play football or to do the triathlon? i'm sure there is an equal amount of joy to be had out of both... it's always interesting to hear a quality mix of music but it's also good to hear a specialist excell in their field. besides, what do you mean by eclectic? this is a slightly nonsensical word these days that for a lot of people seems to sum up a particular mixture of music (differently for different people) rather than being completely open ended as the word suggests...

i think you are demanding info a bit too early, i'm sure as soon as chris knows he will let us all know one way or the other. glad you enjoyed it on saturday...

Sheffield Nightlife - why has it gone backwards?
Scuba replied to Ronsize's topic in Going out in Sheffield
the problem is that sheffield city council has no game plan. they let the money do the talking, which means that massive chain bars and property developers get all the attention simply because their money is welcome. they fail to see the importance of a vibrant and diverse nightlife for the welfare of the city, this should rank alongside art gallerys, theatres and so on as part of the city's culture... rather than the occasional mention of gatecrasher as being iconic of sheffield having a thriving nightlife... they simply dont have a clue. the council doesnt support the club scene, they only see it as being a bunch of gangsters littering the city centre with flyposters and bringing in people with guns. help us out! give us some flyposter sites, be flexible with licenses and do your job and sort out the gangsters rather than blaming it on the clubs!!! -
the bands i mean!
