  1. My grandma Nellie Wigley used to work there. I don't know the exact dates but she certainly worked there in the 50th and 60s. She was a forewoman, and I think worked in the press shop.
  2. Yes, thanks, I did find that. But you have to pay to find out if it's possible to get a copy and then if so you don't know how much that will cost. I'll bear it in mind, though, in case I decide I need more info.
  3. Thanks again, Ted. It's all very confusing, isn't it? I've just read Spycatcher and it's clear that they were never completely clear about a lot of people and events. For instance Wright was convinced that Sir Roger Hollis, DG of MI5, was a mole, but was never able to prove it other than with circumstancial evidence. Anyway, I just want the Pragers to be very minor characters, possibly without actually naming them, in my current novel. I probably have enough now, but any more is all grist to the mill.
  4. Just a bit more. A few years later, at an OU Summer School I bumped into the guy who'd been a geography lecturer at Swinton. He told me that everyone who'd been associated with the Praegers had been investigated by Special Branch. So that would have included me! It must have been him who told me about the field trip to Finningley, but it's so long ago I'm not sure if I've got it right. If anyone else went to Swinton Day Training College and knew Jana I'd like to hear from you.
  5. Thanks again, Ted. I keep trying to reply but my computer keeps crashing before I get to the end. ha ha, sinister or what? I've actually found another source which is the Encyclopaedia of the Cold War, but it only deals with Nick. ---------- Post added 23-03-2016 at 17:16 ---------- Second half of my reply - I'm trying to beat the crashes. Apparently Nick had left the RAF and was working for General Electric. But there's something I'm trying to remember. What I heard at the time was that he'd joined one of our geography field trips to RAF Finningley and was taking photos there, presumably of the Vulcan bomber. And I believe he was 'shopped' by the defector Joseph Frolik. Anyway, thanks for your help. Pity that file isn't around! Pauline
  6. Thanks, Ted. I doubt if she's alive now, or if she is she'll be in her 90s. I don't suppose you have any documentary evidence - newspaper articles from the time or anything else that I could read, do you?
  7. I know this thread is quite old, but does anyone know what happened to Jana Prager? I know Nick was in Wakefield prison, but don't know where she went or what subsequently happened to her. I also went to Swinton Day Training College and knew Jana well, we were in the same Theory of Education group. I remember being stunned by the revelations, but also by Jana being described as a femme fatale, but now I can't find any reference to her at all.
