  1. You had a nicely painted door though.. Just before we emigrated to Australia in 1968, we had a little two up and two down, no bathroom, toilet and coalhouse outside, when it was freezing outside and I needed to go toilet, I would have to put the kids coats and gloves on to take them with me, and we would all squeeze in there, I tried to judge it when my hubby was home, the good old days..
  2. I would like to go back to 1958, great music happy times..
  3. My first wage was 3 pounds and ten shillings, in 1957
  4. I agree with you skippy, i'm a 10 pound pom as well, came here in 1968, was in Melbourne for two years, then came to Perth, love it, I went back to England five years ago, and I loved every minute, but wouldn't go back to live.. one of my nephews has been over here every year for the past twelve years, and is coming again in next year as well..
  5. My Dad was a coalman in the early fifties, my brother worked with him, coaldust everywhere, drove Mam nuts..
  6. I didn't live in Darnall, I went out with a boy who lived there, his name is Dennis Taylor, this was 1959-1960, I found the people were very friendly, I loved visiting..
  7. I went from Leicester to Skeggy in my friends Dads side car, she was on the back of the bike, we was about 14 at the time, it would have bin mid 1950's ,it seemed like ages to get there, and then we had to get back as well, I can't ever remember being in a side car again..It was an experience though..
  8. Thankyou for that Robbiet, it seems he still has family in Sheffield, so there's hope that someone may be able to help me..
  9. Thankyou Robbiet for answering me, I remembered Dennis had two brothers, but didn't remember their names, are you still in Sheffield? or have you left the area? if Dennis's family left the area many years ago, that would be why no one knows what happened to him.. Thought I would try one more time, to see if anyone out there could shed some light for me..
  10. Yes I remember he had two younger brothers, he also had a sister, she would have been about nine or ten years younger than Dennis, I can't remember her name now, it might have been Pauline I'm not sure..
  11. I was engaged to him when I was 17 and he was 18, that was 1959, we split. In 1968 I emigrated to Australia with my husband and three kids, I never saw Dennis again, until in April of this year, I was at Canningvale markets in Western Aus, where we go nearly every couple of weeks for our fruit and veg, he was trying to get my attention, he was a little way away from me, and I wasn't sure it was him,(and still not really sure) we looked at each other for a short time, and I had to walk past him to get out onto the pathway, I walked past him with my head down, and I thought as I go by he'll say my name and I would know his accent, but he didn't speak to me, and I just carried on by and didn't look back, every time I think of it I could kick myself," Why didn't I speak to him?" I just feel bad about ignoring him, is there anyone out there that could tell me wether he was in Western Aus at that time, I'm almost certain it was him, i don't want to intrude in his life, i just want to say sorry for ignoring him, he was my very first love, we had some good times together..
  12. Dennis would now be 74 years old, need to find him can anyone help me, he lived in Webster Place in the fifties, joined the royal Navy when 17..
