  1. Does this jog your memory? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_Minister's_Questions#Absence_of_the_prime_minister_or_leader_of_the_opposition
  2. How would anyone here know, and why is it anyone else's business, other than his, any family, and the those who granted him asylum. He's here, now legally, and will hopefully make a positive contibution to our society, including paying taxes etc. We have a shortage of phamacists, so as long as he's competent when qualified, we should welcome him.
  3. "It" Is that the level to which rational discussion has descended? The means of arrival, whether strictly legal or not, has no bearing under international law as to whether a claim has legitimacy the initial claim must be submitted within a fixed period from arrival. Provided he made that claim in time, he then lives here legally, pending a decision on his status. The guy concerned clearly has had his asylum claim accepted, as he's continued his education here, and will now legally have refugee status. A full pharmacy course lasts either 4 or 5 years, depending on the structure of the degree; he's apparently nearing qualification. An applicant doesn't get accepted onto a degree course without previous qualifications, so he either has a transferable qualification when he arrived, or has studied here for A levels or similar. It will have taken some time for his application to clear, so I'm guessing he's been hear at least five or six years legally, so probably didn't cross the channel in a rubber boat.
  4. France has removed them from sale in coastal areas from the various legitimate sports and marine dealers. They are now being made to order in China and available from sites such as Alibaba; $380, you can specify size, hard or soft floors, engine size, lifevests included etc. This is one link, I'm sure I have others somewhere https://www.infomigrants.net/en/post/38784/made-in-china-how-smugglers-import-boats-to-continue-with-irregular-channel-crossings Link to a report at the foot of this article You will need to register for a free account to download it; worked OK for me. New report on small boat crossings launched by Professor Thom Brooks Durham Law School
  5. Yes, it's disgraceful that they should feel the need to. CST have likely had a presence there for some time, and may or may not have increased their staffing and or visibility. Record funding will protect Jewish communities from harm HMG Feb 2024 Jewish communities will receive dedicated security and protection thanks to the biggest financial commitment ever made by the government to tackle antisemitism. At the Community Security Trust’s (CST) annual dinner last night (Wednesday 28th February), Prime Minister Rishi Sunak pledged to give the organisation, which was established to protect Jewish community sites, more than £70 million over the next 4 years, as part of the Jewish Community Protective Security Grant. The funding will increase security at a range of Jewish buildings across the country, including schools, synagogues and other facilities used by the Jewish community. Meanwhile, in other news Islamophobia report highlights Conservative party’s institutional failings Financial Times. Highly critical inquiry says comments used by prime minister were insensitive to Muslim communities Fortunately there is action being taken to protect other religious institutions too; I wonder now much the necessity for this is due to the previous link. £117m to protect UK mosques and Muslim schools from hate attacks BBC More than £117m will be spent to protect mosques, Muslim schools and community centres in the UK from hate attacks over the next four years, the government says. Home Secretary James Cleverly said the investment would give "reassurance and confidence" to British Muslims. It will be spent on measures including CCTV cameras, alarms and fencing. The announcement comes in response to concerns the Israel-Hamas conflict is fuelling division in the UK. Mr Cleverly said: "Anti-Muslim hatred has absolutely no place in our society. We will not let events in the Middle East be used as an excuse to justify abuse against British Muslims. "The prime minister has made clear that we stand with Muslims in the UK. See Also https://muslimcensus.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/MuslimCensus-x-MEND.pdf Overall, 35%of Mosques experience a religiously motivated attack at least once a year. Of the mosques that have experienced attacks, 83% have been attacked at least once a year. Overall again, 9% report that their Mosque or Islamic institution is the target of attacks “very frequently” defined as at least every 3 months. I'm genuinely curious as to whether the need in Gateshead etc. is a perceived threat, or a real one; if the latter, then it should certainly be condemned every bit as much as threats to any other group or individual. If a perceived threat, then some actvist groups, maybe even the CAA, are achieving their ends. It may be a mixture of the two of course
  6. I'm no great fan of Labour particularly, but until the next government is formed after an election, how can they have any idea of what's achievable without seeing the state of the books. Current government policy isn't even being announced in parliament, so it can't be scrutinised by any of our elected representatives.
  7. I'm sad to say if you've seen it repeated on any mainstream news channel, those reports likely pale into insignificance compared to some of the stuff I wish I hadn't seen; no, unusually for me, I'm not posting links to any of the Twitter stuff. I've certainly not visited the Telegram channels etc 😢
  8. Other people seem to have watched the St Georges day videos closer than me; The time when the flagbearers tried to break through the police cordon to Whitehall (outside the designated event area), was the police horse hit with an umbrella, a baton or a walking stick?? Were they supported by an ex Mossad employed security team?
  9. Without doubt The MET have disgraced themselves on a number of occasions, but the policing of the pro Palestinian demonstrations certainly doesn't seem to be one of them. Of the very real disgraces, the Daniel Morgan case springs readily to mind, not to mention Sarah Everard. Met Police vows to stamp out corruption after Daniel Morgan apology Financial Times. I've mentioned Chris Hobbs before; retired ex-MET officer. Here's a very good summary by him of the march recently making news headlines for all the wrong reasons. https://www.policeoracle.com/article-library/comment-so-keeping-people-safe-could-cost-the-met-commissioner-his-job/
  10. A Monorail was seriously considered, but the plans scrapped, just before I arrived in Sheffiled. Thus far, there's been a couple of suggestions, but the Cablecar hasn't got off the ground (yet).
  11. I wonder how many folk realise where the term, in this instance, originates?? (Hint, it's not the Labour party itself) It's a shame that we still have so many in politics who seek to divide, rather than unite us as a nation. More in Common Follow the link for the use of the expression in this case 7 Segments Britain is not a society that is polarised between two extremes, instead, we can be categorised into different segments on the basis of our core beliefs and psychology. Across the spectrum of issue areas, combinations of segments align in agreement – sometimes quite unexpectedly, as the examples given throughout our report demonstrate. The segments themselves are heterogenous. For example, while there may be a general trend of voting behaviour among the segment, significant minorities within the group may choose different parties based on specific issues that appeal to them. About Us Where we began More in Common was founded in the aftermath of the tragic murder of Jo Cox MP in 2016. More in Common takes its name from Jo’s maiden speech in Parliament where she said: “We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us.” Our hope is that through our work, we honour Jo’s memory and legacy.
  12. Finally a proper and measured response from the commissioner of The MET, on the policing of demonstrations generally; I hope the officer(s) concerned receives the support they should. Now maybe we need those who have called for his resignation to offer a formal apology to calm this down a bit. We have a PM who makes public statements, either knowingly falsely, or without being in posession of the facts; maybe he's the one who should consider resignation. Met police chief praises ‘professional’ conduct of officer in antisemitism row Exclusive: Mark Rowley says sergeant will not be disciplined and warns of ‘fakery’ by activists at other protests The commissioner of the Metropolitan police has praised the “professional” conduct of the sergeant who stopped an antisemitism campaigner at a pro-Palestinian march and warned that officers at other protests had been “set up” by activists using “fakery” to undermine the force...................................................... The Met commissioner stressed he was not talking about the latest incident with Falter. He said: “I’m not going to answer that in relation to the Gideon Falter incident … just to be crystal clear. “But there are very clearly some situations where officers are being set up with an absolute intention to intimidate officers and create a sort of fakery to try and prove police are not operating neutrally without fear or favour.” The most glaring example for Rowley was an Asian officer who had a pro-Palestinian sticker glued on his arm for a short time, which was photographed. That photo was then placed on social media. Rowley said the officer and his wife had faced death threats. “What’s disappointing is that credible and significant commentators leap on top of that and magnify it, while we’re doing factchecking,” he added. Hopefully they are still taking evidence and factchecking this latest incident. See also; [Chris Hobbs, who I've mentioned before, features in the following article.] A special report: Inside the Met’s handling of the pro-Palestine protests Another well policed event results in calls for the commissioner's head - but has the narrative been skewed to push an agenda?
  13. They were the ones who managed to access care, even though they were failed badly. I bookmarked this the other day; read the whole thread. 😢 https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1781362506163765291.html With my partner's blessing, I share our recent personal journey trying to access mental health help. My OH just started full time work again, after eighteen months off sick. At every point, the system was a set-back instead of help, it LENGTHENED and WORSENED his problem
  14. Feeling threatened by a plate; you're not alone, help is at hand. Gaza children’s artwork removed from London hospital MEE, plenty of other sources. Photos of the plates HERE UK Lawyers for Israel filed complaint saying artwork made some Jewish patients feel 'vulnerable and victimised' A London hospital has taken down a display of artwork designed by Palestinian schoolchildren from Gaza after complaints by a British pro-Israel charity. According to a statement by UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI), the hospital was compelled to remove the artwork following a complaint by the NGO on behalf of a number of Jewish patients, “who said that they felt vulnerable and victimised by this display”. The artwork contained a display of decorated plates, along with illustrations of their significance. Entitled “Crossing Borders – a festival of Plates”, the display was shown by the entrance to the children’s outpatients’ department at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. It was designed by children at two schools run by UNRWA in Gaza and transferred onto the plates by children at the Chelsea Community Hospital school. The caption for one of the display plates was: “The olive branch is the symbol of peace and is used to express the wish for an independent Palestinian state.”
  15. To a certain extent, the main media is caught between a rock and a hard place. The narrative has been coordinated and presented to them; if they hadn't reported it immediately, then they would be accused of bias and a coverup. Once the story is out there, countering it is difficult, and even well documented inconsistancies still remain unseen/unbelieved; social media is a powerful influence, and many would argue IPSO is largely toothless. e.g. Robbie Gibb is now a senior influence in The BBC; You might also remember him as helping rescue The Jewish Chronicle Follow the link The plans are still working to an extent; even Sunak has now weighed in, and Braverman is still getting publicity. After the boss of the MET, expect Khan to be the next target, playing into Tory hands, during the period before an election. So who are the CAA and who funds them? No idea now, but in the past, and possibly still, they were funded indirectly by the Israeli govenment. Revealed: Israel charity funded Campaign Against Antisemitism The Electronic Intifada can today reveal that the CAA has been given almost half a million dollars by the UK partner of the Jewish National Fund, Israel’s quasi-governmental settler-colonial agency. The donations were hidden in obscure Charity Commission documents uncovered by our research. In an email to The Electronic Intifada, the CAA confirmed it had been in “past receipt of donations from JNF UK” but denied current JNF funding. The chap who is the topic in this thread is also involved heavily in the JNF JNF UK has also funded a number of projects supporting illegal settlements in the West Bank – a war crime under international law. JNF funding to CAA Founded in 2014, the CAA was formally registered as a charity the following year. UK law requires charities to declare all donations they receive from organizations with common trustees as “related party transactions.” An analysis of the CAA’s accounts, crosschecked with those of the JNF’s British partner shows that the CAA has received large donations from JNF UK. Crucially, these donations were made during the most intense period of the manufactured ****anti-Semitism crisis in Britain’s Labour Party in 2018 and 2019.**** CAA chief executive Gideon Falter was in 2017 appointed as a director and trustee of JNF UK and he is also a vice chair. In 2018, the CAA declared in its accounts disclosed to the Charity Commission that a donation of almost $220,000 had come from a “related party.” There would appear to be ties between the CAA & The Jewish Labour Movement ****Jewish Labour Movement says it brought down Corbyn**** Israel lobby group claims responsibility for downfall of former Labour leader. In a post to Twitter, the group said of Corbyn that they “saw him off” as leader of the party. The post is the first known public claim of responsibility by the Jewish Labour Movement that they were partly responsible for bringing down the left-wing former leader. The Jewish Labour Movement was refounded in September 2015 with the aim of defeating Jeremy Corbyn, who had just been elected Labour leader that month. Corbyn is a veteran Palestine solidarity activist. The Jewish Labour Movement, by contrast, is a Zionist group, led at its refounding by career Israel lobbyist Jeremy Newmark and former Israeli embassy employee Ella Rose. Then there is the incident of an Israeli diplomat directly offering money to help take down a Conservative MP/Minister https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4098082/Astonishing-undercover-video-captures-diplomat-conspiring-rival-MP-s-aide-smear-Deputy-Foreign-Secretary.html The Israeli Embassy made a shocking vow to ‘take down’ Boris Johnson’s Foreign Office deputy, a secret film reveals today. The bombshell footage, covertly filmed in a London restaurant and obtained by The Mail on Sunday, shows a senior diplomat making the astonishing threat to target Sir Alan Duncan. Extraordinarily, he is egged on by a senior aide to another Conservative Minister, Robert Halfon. The video comes in a film claiming to expose the way that the Israeli government has ‘infiltrated’ both the Conservative and Labour parties via its embassy in the UK, using secret cash and covert support. Further footage shows the Israeli diplomat, intelligence expert Shai Masot, telling senior Labour MP Joan Ryan that he has obtained ‘more than £1 million’ to pay for sympathetic Labour MPs to visit Israel.
