  1. I'm from the States but have lived in Sheffield for nearly eight years. Mystery Science Theater 3000 was a huge cult show in the States. Basically, the concept is that some characters watch terrible films and you see their silhouettes and they make snarky commentary during the whole movie and it's hilarious. They normally choose cheesy or weird or super low budget sci-fi and horror films. But no one seems to know it here. Why didn't it catch on? It seems to me to fit in with the British approach to humour--it's not too slapstick or loud. Thoughts?
  2. Napoleon Dynamite. Everyone was like, "This film is so YOU. You will love it." I tried. I didn't.
  3. Le Grande Illusion, from Jean Renoir (son of the painter)! It was made in like the 30s but it feels really modern to me--some of the shots remind me of Spielberg and it has a sense of character that a lot films from that era miss. Plus it's got Erich von Stroheim in it, a guy who always seems kind of tragic and fascinating to me.
  4. Has anyone tried Obduction yet (the new Cyan game on Steam)? It's a bit pricey and they haven't released a Mac yet but the visuals look gorgeous and I want to try it.
  5. Just to add, I would say Butler's Balti is excellent and so is Zara's in Crookes. Arusavai is also nice and different from the norm.
