  1. Anyone know where I can hire a big saucepan or two to cook for 100 people. Need somewhere fairly local to Sheffield. Thanks.
  2. Hi do you do any other classes? I work, so I'm looking for an evening /Friday class.
  3. I am sure it is a parakeet. They are regular visitors in Meersbrook. Not flocks, but odd ones or pairs. I usually spot them by hearing their squawky cry as they fly over.
  4. There are also moves afoot to put on a big folk concert to raise money . We are looking for a venue to hold approx 200 to sit down. Any ideas anyone? Medium -sized venues are few and far between in Sheffield.
  5. John Turner-used to tune the Crucible Pianos. He's really good and is in yellow pages.
  6. I had candida too a few years back and cut out bread from my diet for over a year. There used to be an Irish baker on Chesterfield Road near In a Nutshell who baked my batches weekly which I froze-it was cheap and lovely. Unfortunately he has gone now. I would be very careful getting supermarket soda bread. The whole point about a candida diet is to eat yeast-free food and a lot of the commercial stuff still contains yeast. The best way is to make it yourself- it is easy as already said.
  7. I remember mary from Meadowhall. We have ferrets and she used to say we smelt loveely when we went in her shop becuase she was addicted to the smell of ferrets. She was also judge at Penistone show ferret section when we went once . We took our just-rescued scratty ferret Pandora along and were persuaded to enter her by Mary and she won runner up prize ferret of the show.(Pandora not mary) About training- the thing about food is right. We did ours with Ferretone which they are all addicted to. You smear it on your hand and they lick it while you pet them. Unfortunately it seems to have been withdrawn from the market. Anyone know where to get any? We had three ferrets , Pandora died a couple of years ago and Worf sadly died last week, (quite old) . We now just have albino Molly with bags of energy and no company. I really don't want another though. About neutering. In the end we had all ours neutered. It calmed them all down a bit and you can stop worrying about the coming in to season thing. I know plenty of people who just castrate the male ferret though. It is fine uinless you are just left with females and then you need to find a castrated male every time they come into season or they get sick. Good luck.
  8. I am looking for a piano teacher for my daughter (17years old ,very musical, but is a beginner to piano and has limited theory knowledge) and we live in Heeley. Could you pm me with details of where he lives/price/phone number. I haven't had any luck finding anyone suitable so it would be good to hear from you. Thanks Val
  9. They celebrated their centenary in 1994. My kids were both there then and I remember there was a lot of interesting history stuff going on in the school. Have you been in touch with the school? Also-have you tried the Heeley History project? I used to live on Brook Road, and a lot of the older people round there went to the school. Have you thought about leafletting a the local houses?
  10. I think this was a crash. We were driving back just after they had put the fire out and had to divert up Gleadless Road. there were patches of still-burning rubber at the top near the Shakespeare. Very weird. Somebody must have been going incredibly fast down that road for the tyres to melt.
  11. I went to a brilliant wedding in the BG in April. They have it in the middle greenhouse which is a lovely venue. Lots of room, but your guests have to stand up and peer through the foliage. After, as the weather was fine we all had champagne just outside in the garden-wonderful venue I would say.
  12. Slightly off track, but the day before-Sat 4th November there will be a great event at the Waggon and Horses in Langsett. Mr Fox will be providing pyros/dance/ music/masks/fire sculpture/wild drums and a show to remember. Be there for 8.15pm for a brilliant time.
  13. Oh that is terrible news-loved that pub and had some good times there outside morris dancing and chatting to Terry over a few pints. Stayed there once a couple of years ago -great for Band B. How sad...
  14. DONT go to kwikfit. They replaced my whole exhaust system just over a year ago and it has never been right. I took it back twice or threetimes as it was banging about. I then took it to a trusted mechanic(should've gone to him in the first place) and he said it was put on very badly and not bolted in place properly . They had not replaced the fixings with new ones etc etc. He tried to sort it, but short of removing it all and starting again.... It cost me nearly £600 to have it done initially. It still bangs and rattles and I will never go back to Kwikfit again.
  15. The 40p fare has been for 16-18 year olds who are in full time education ie not earning ,with no income at all. If they have to start paying full fare to get to school/college there are a lot of families who are going to really struggle in Sheffield. I am glad it seems like the rumours are wrong, . I think it is really important that people don't assume that all teenagers are a waste of space. I have two caring teenagers myself, and have worked in some of the toughest secondary schools in the City, where most of the kids are great. There are always a few who aren't and spoil it for the others. melodyx
