  1. check out this breaking news http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-40711013?SThisFB
  2. All Walkley residents should object to the planned proposal of a hmo even if you dont use the Firwood cottage. Here is my objection i have posted. 'We as residents and business owners are strongly objecting to yet another halfway house in the area as there is already a hmo just a few doors away from the Firwood (#31 & 31a Whitehouse Rd, for all residents who are unaware) Over the years this halfway house has caused us all on Whitehouse Rd a problem with the occupants. We have made several complaints/reports to the authorities about the people living in their multiple occupancy residence which over time has included young people, unemployed, paedophiles, drug addicts, criminals etc. It was even been run as a brothel for a while when a prostitute and friends were housed there. We are already in an area with high crime levels and do not need to encourage more criminal activity or persons likely to be involved in criminal activity. We as a community can not handle losing another public amenity, one of the few remaining public houses in the area, which is currently open, well managed and enjoyed by the community.' ow.ly/zyAm308GbOa is the link to go to object. The current halfway house has 4 tenants, this new one is set to have 12 bedrooms. This can not happen, don't forget Walkley primary School is just across the road.
  3. I am trying to find the kind person who witnessed an Asda delivery lorry smashing into our parked delivery van on Monday 16th Jan. The van was parked in the top layby spot on Highton street. The Asda driver did not stop, but the witness did report the incident in the South Road store. Thus forcing Asda to inform me, but so far no report has been issued to Asda insurance for me to be able to start repairs or be able to obtain courtesy vehicle to carry on my business. Please ask family and friends if they were the witness, as it will make my case. My shop number is 0114 2340066
  4. Good news, we have just taken over the Ian Quince shop in ranmoor, and we will be introducing our high welfare and free range products over the coming weeks, mr quince is staying on to manage it for us.
  5. Yes the rumours are true Beeches of Walkley is sadly for sale, and it is for health reasons. We have shocked locals and staff by our decision but 8 years of non stop work has taken it's toll on both of us. Beeches is a good viable business and has now paid off all the start up loans and finance and makes a profit. Customers say why do we not put managers in to run the business, but if we do that then it would no longer be a profitable business. that is one of the reasons I am urging people to shop local, because if we could get more footfall and custom then we could pay managers to take some of our workload off us. That way we can keep the business but also have the odd holiday to rejuvenate our weary bones (nearly 9 years since our last holiday) We could also put the plans in place for post office inside, with longer hours and sunday openings, Walkley traders market and farmers market etc. I may be tired and ill but i'm still full of ideas how I can make our Walkley quarter a better place and hipster!!! And the other rumour of us opening another butchers shop is also true, I made a decision to help a couple who I have supplied to for many years, they needed to sell for health reasons, so I take over January 1st, the butcher will be staying on as long as possible, so I will not have to put any more work hours onto my week, and spread myself even more thinly. (oh yes the new shop is on Fulwood Road Ranmoor)
  6. since taking over from my retired boss david marshall, i have held all my prices for over 18 months even though meat prices have risen. I am born and bred in walkley and support the local community. It is not always about money. Not like walmart polices.
  7. asda head office scout went into fruit and roots greengrocers weeks ago pretending to support local shops. Amazingly they have opened up with a over extended fruit and veg section than the other recently converted asda's. Are they doing the walmart overseas trick of going into town and shutting down any competion and making themselves the one stop place to shop.
  8. chris beech makes sausage for several stalls in the castle market, i support all local trade!
  9. The butchers on the corner, was carneys where i started working at 15 before it closed and i moved to there other shop up on south road. does any one remember the dolls hospital on commonside? many a time i would take my action men for a repair there.
