  1. Hi spider 1, managed to get back in contact with Steve a couple of years ago and went to see him last summer at his home. It was good to see him again but sad to see that he's not as vibrant and mobile as back in the day due to illness. Still got a wicked sense of humour tho. had the wife (who'd never met him before) giggling like a schoolgirl, mainly at my expense!
  2. Bill Thompson lived next door to us,he had a son callied Duggie and a daughter called Susan. They lived in 13a we were in 13b,seem to recall that a foriegn couple lived in 13c possibly Polish. When we moved out the Thompsons moved in cause our house was bigger than theirs and i think the family was growing! I do remember Charlie Watts he was struck by lightening while we were there. My dad used to fetch the cows up from the fields behind the wreck in summer and milk them in the parlour, I used to help in the school holidays. We left in 65 and moved to Woodhouse Mill I think they knocked the whole farm down around 69 and built houses on it.
  3. twizzljack Did you live in one of the properties on the farm? We moved into 13b (the middle one of the three houses that fronted on to Finchwell road) in about 1960ish and left in 64.Remember going into the big house to watch the Badgers home movies of their holidays abroad which was a big deal in those days cause not many people could afford foreign holidays then! Seem to think they went right around the world on one trip.must have cost a bob or two then.
  4. I remember Ian Senn he was in the same year as me recall one day after school that he and an older lad called John Wragg squared up to each other and I missed my bus home because we all stayed to watch!Think it ended in a draw. Some other names that come to mind are Andrew Henderson,Paul Frost,Paul Barber,Steve Wattam,Paul? Hetherington,John Broughton,Ian Hague and Paul Leather.Anyone remember these and any other names of that era that I may have known?
  5. Yes there was a flying plank used to get it going really high then jump off! Imagine letting the grand kids do that now you would be locked up!! There was also a water fountain next to the toilet block that was handy for filling up water pistols.
  6. Stevie Wonder City Hall 69ish Place was packed we were up in the gods and could barely see him but it was brilliant he did not want to leave the stage and had to be carried off! Seem to remember he was quoted in NME at the time saying that Sheffield was the best gig of his UK tour that year.
  7. Got good and bad memorys of the rec. Enjoyed playing on the roundabout and slide as young kids (used to try to make the slide faster with greaseproof paper! health & safety would stop that now) Bad memory involved a gang of us chasing a puppy around and running into somebodies forehead with my front teeth and knocking them loose, they did'nt fall out but they were never the same again. Should have stuck to football!
  8. I was there 67 to 70. Remember the Matsons, Mr Fairbrother (very relaxed form teacher for a while) Don Woolhouse (excellent teacher) and a young guy who started while I was there called I think John Taylor who we had for physics and was really laid back. Also had Thornton as form teacher for one year seem to recall he was absent more than we were, could have been the year he won spot the ball in the Star! Could have done better while I was there I suppose but towards the end I was more interested in girls and scooters than exams but things have turned out OK!
  9. As you say much older not so sure about the wiser though! Married 32 years in august 30 year old daughter,27 year old son and grandaughter will be 3 in april. Still got mum with us but lost dad in 2003.
  10. Hi Doyle yes my dad did work on Badgers Farm he was the cowman.I don't know all the names you list but I think Dougie lived next door to us in 16a Finchwell road.Seem to remember he had an elder brother called Terry and a younger sister called Susan and possibly one other sister. Sorry don't remember Spot the dog. Incidently my first job after leaving school was at Goodyer Blackburns as an apprentice engineer but when Rolls Royce went bust we were all laid off!
  11. Hi again Malc Contact your cousin Mick he has all my contact details email, mob and land line.
  12. You got me Malc Well done! Moved on from woodhouse to east coast a long time ago.Would be very interested in fotos cause we lost any that we had in various house moves.I recall it was Irene now but sorry to say can't remember name of (younger?) sister. Are you still local to area?
  13. I was there in 70 to 71 for the full years training with day release at granville. It was a good introduction to engineering and I am still at it.Now managing a toolroom for a large japanese bearing manufacturer!I remember wingnut in the stores and a guy called Swift who I think was one of the turning trainers.Think it was him who had an old 1940s style MG midget that was his pride and joy. While I was there somebody managed to blow a couple of fingers off by filling a length of pipe with aceteline and then lighting it!can't remember his name though. Also recall a leaking oxygen cylinder that the instructors carried out to the car park where the fire brigade promptly bollocked them for doing so. Anbody else remember this?
  14. Hi there I lived in Woodhouse Mill from about 65 to 74 on Horsewood road near the Ironbridge. Never went to any of junior schools in woodhouse but did a couple of years at Beaverhill till about 67 then moved on to Central Tech. till 70ish. (horrendous bus journey evry day till I got a Lambretta) First pub I ever went in was the Junction. In later years used to drink with a lot of the Badger Est. lads.Anyone remember Steve Burgin? I recall holiday in Lloret de Mar in 73 where we tried to drink the town dry! there must have been about 30 of us in the same hotel. I left the area in 74 to live on the east coast and am still here.Dont get back much now except for the odd funeral. Not many relatives left now so will probably get back even less
