  1. Try this recipe. It is a long standing family one. Shin Beef & Ox Tail Casserole 500 gm Shin Beef Cubed 800 gm Ox Tail (with bone in) 320/325 gm Sliced Carrots 1 Finely Diced Onion ~ 140/150 gm 250 ml Full Bodied Red Wine (Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot Blend) 1 Tablespoon Plain Flour 500 ml Beef Stock (! Knorr Beef Stock Pot to 500 ml Hot Water) 1 Knorr Herb Stock Pot 1 Tablespoon of Tomato Paste (Dissolve in some of the Beef Stock) Sliced Mushrooms Vegetable Oil ~ 2 Tablespoons Sea Salt & Black Ground Pepper. Cube the Shin Beef into portions about 1.5 to 2.0 cm size and brown in about 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, or light olive oil. When browned transfer to a plate. Add the onions to the same pan, plus a little more oil if needed, and soften the onions for a few minutes. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and mix to form a paste with the onions. Cook on a gentle heat for a couple of minutes, then raise the hob temperature, and add the wine, and stir to boil off the alcohol and thicken the liquid in the pan. Add about half of the beef stock and the tomato paste, previously mixed with a little stock to allow it to mix more easily. Transfer the stock and wine to a casserole dish, or a slow cooker, and then add the carrots, the ox tail pieces and finally the shin beef. Adjust the liquid level to just cover the ingredients and add ½ teaspoon salt and a good pinch of black pepper. Then either put the slow cooker on high for about 1 hour, or put the casserole dish in the oven at 160’C (Gas Mark 3) and allow to cook for about 2 hours. Then add the sliced mushrooms and continue cooking for: a) Slow Cooker about 5 hours on slow cook, or b) Oven at 160’C (Gas Mark 3) for another 3 hours. Check the ox tail to see if the meat is coming off the bones and the beef is cooked through. If the meat and oxtail are cooked then allow the casserole to stand overnight, preferably in a refrigerator, and then remove any fat the following morning. The casserole can be kept in the refrigerator for a couple of days before reheating it ready to serve. In the case of the casserole which has been cooked in a slow cooker, once the casserole is cool enough to handle transfer the casserole to a suitable glass casserole dish ready for reheating. DON’T TRY REHEATING THE CASSEROLE IN THE SLOW COOKER POT. The slow cooker pot isn’t made for reheating food only for preparing it. Adjust the seasoning while reheating .Serve with mashed potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding if wanted. .
  2. The Angel is open after being taken over by the Landlady of the Stag. Tonight, Sunday 4th November, they have got a bonfire on the car park which looks like being a really good blaze. I have been told the Fire Brigade have inspected the site and have given the "all clear" for the fire to go ahead. If anyone knows a tarmac specialist they might have a job after tonight. :D
  3. European politicians are not like the UK lot. They are used to the inuendo type of politics whereby tales of one sort or anoher to discredit the opposition are all part and parcel of their devious machinations to get the upper hand. Dave Cameron was a sucker in their eyes when he told them what they wanted to hear. In thei veiw, at that time, using the European bargaining picture they thought that it was a done deal. When it became obvious that it wasn't then they didn't like it one bit. In short, Cameron had let them down badly by not making sure that he won the referendum. If that took some fiddling, or dodgy dealings, to do then, in their book, that is what he should have done. Honesty in political dealings is not in their understanding. If you look at the French elections, and the ones they had in Italy, telling lies, or half truths, about the opposition is the norm. That is what has happened with the Junker and No 10 talks. Junker didn't like Theresa May's stance so he went back to Brussels and told a different tale to that which had happened. This has now gone viral and we can expect more of the same during the negotiations and even before they actually start
  4. From this mornings news it seems that the EU Commission has a mid term review of the EU milti annual budget which needs signing and theUK is refusing to sign it until after the election. That vetos it for the time being. If we actually do sign it I think it puts us in the position that we then become bound by any financial arrangement this "budget" lists. It could be that if we do sign it the €60 billion would become part of the "divorce" bill because we have agreed to payments whch arise after the negotiattions are finished. If I were Theresa I wouldn't sign anyhting off which can come back to bite us when we do discuss the final settlements for Brexit. I could be one of the big sticks in our negotiationg package.
  5. If the tap had been turned on and off automatically then it wouldn't need anything doing to it would it? If anyone isn't reading the original post mate I reckon it's you.
  6. You managed to turn the blasted tap on in the first place so turning it off again isn't rocket science. Leaving the tap running is pure laziness and shows a lack of respect for both other users and the environment. :loopy:
  7. It's possibly due to the storage tanks and delivery systems being new. There could be some solids in the fuel which are clogging your petrol filter. You need to let Tesco know that you are having problems. The whole fuel delivery system should have been washed through before they started serving the fuel.
  8. Work has been going on at the Emley Moor Transmitter since June this year. It is all to do with the Digital Switchover which happens around September 2011.The work was supposed to take place between 14th April and 16th June but for some reason or other it was then extended to the end of August. A further extension was then scheduled to the 24th September. The antenna have now been replaced and work is being done at ground level. This has meant that cut off in transmissions have taken place and reduced power has been the order of the day. For the last two days, 23rd & 24th September there have been periods when total shut down has happened. http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/how_do_i_switch/your_aerial/engineering_works Digital signals are being treansmitted at only 10kW in any case. The transmitter will operate at up to 870kW but the reduced power is to stop interference in adjacent areas apparently. Once the Switchover happens the power will be increased to 174kW. This may mean that all the folk who have replaced their existing aerials with high gain aerials to get better digital reception will find that the signal is too strong and they will need to fit attenuators or some such device to reduce the power to acceptable levels. This link is one of the best I have found for information on aerials generally and digital signals in particular. It is Sheffield based and quite amusing in places. http://www.aerialsandtv.com/index.html
  9. Another New Labour policy into the trash can. I still don't know whether the rumours and leaks about the 20th October review are being trailed by the Government or whether it is the Labour crowd working on the basis of "throw muck and some of it will stick". A Council Tax re-evaluation would be a complete disaster in todays financial climate. Good on 'em for kicking it into touch.
  10. Yep - it looks very much like a Horntail, or Wood Wasp. It lays eggs in trees through the bark. It was probably looking for some wooden top person, or a vacant wooden desk. :hihi: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horntail
  11. It is clear that differences in age and vocabulary as well as idiomatic terms have altered the way people react to one another.
  12. There are those of us who take great exception to being called Gay which is what you did. If I have to explain my other comments then it just shows how standards and times have changed.
  13. What about "Smooth and Glide" or "The Creaseless Press" ?
  14. Thick as well as ignorant. Someone explain to him I can't be bothered.:loopy:
  15. Do you make a habit of being insulting or were you just dragged up? Do tell when your parents are going to get married or were you just sun hatched?
