  1. Vulcan is displaying at Elvington this weekend. Anyone know the time of take off from Robin Hood?
  2. Just to say that J Detailing have polished the paintwork, which was looking a little tired, of my 44 year old car. I am truly astonished at the result, which is excellent and beyond my expectations. Usual disclaimer -No connection with Jonathan except as a customer.
  3. At Siverdale in mid 1950s - Roddy ( a bit frisky - liked to have a canter that changed to a gallop) and Ginny - a sedate old lady which always was the last horse in the group.

  5. You won't use the SYPTE site at Abbeydale because SYPTE have boarded it up!
  6. Yes, it's very sad, as I know from personal experience how visits there are interesting and valuable for the children. Also, the children enjoy the walks around the local countryside. As usual, it's front line services taking the hit.
  7. It is the council's legal duty to keep the roads free of potholes. That is why drivers can claim for damage incurred. It may be unfair for counciltaxpayers to have to pay for the council's failure to pay for road maintenance because the council regards this as a low priority, but the council is elected by the counciltaxpayers.
  8. I'm not criticising post people who do generally good work. This is a management issue. It's RM organisation which is at fault. In the bad winter of 1979, we had normal deliveries as far as I recall, although the snow was far worse than anything seen so far this winter. This year, local deliveries and collections were suspended for 9 days, apparently due to elf n' safety. However, private companies ( TNT etc) still managed to make deliveries, so why can't Royal Mail?
  9. I heard yesterday that a letter I sent " 1st class" 16 days earlier to a local sddress had been received. To op's who say RM is doing a wonderful job under "intense pressure" etc when it has been virtually closed down due to dubious elf n' safety, I say "get real".
  10. To get back to the title of this thread, we pay Council Tax for the council to keep the roads clear of snow, which it is not doing. If the roads were cleared of snow, then traffic would flow as normal. For the benefit of O.P.s who did not understand my earlier post, this would include First buses , which pulled their buses off the roads at 11 am today, and Royal Mail, last seen in my area on Monday. It is well known that Sheffield becomes a shambles when there is any snow. That is why there are several tv crews in Sheffield providing the people of L..ds with a good laff. There are gritters around in mid October or May. Not so many when there is snow on the roads apparently, from others' posts.
  11. It's well known that Sheffield becomes a shambles when there is any snow. That's why there are several tv crews around the city to report on the chaos and give people in L..ds a good laff. Gritters not seen on a main bus route since Monday....
  12. Well, you certainly don't pay Council Tax for a superb gritting service. First buses pulled off the roads at 11 am. Royal Mail collections and deliveries suspended.
  13. The car parking problem has got worse since SYPTE bought the site and stopped parking there. I suppose the logic is that SYPTE will spend £000000s of taxpayers dosh to ease a problem which SYPTE itself has made worse. I hope that Planner 1 will continue the discussion on behalf of SYPTE. I think that SYPTE should have "consulted" the locals rather earlier - possibly before buying the garden centre?
  14. In reply to Planner 1's comments, the money has been wasted because the site is not being used. I can't agree that SYPTE should acquire property as a speculation on land prices. Looks a bit like asset stripping - some jobs at the garden centre were lost and will not be replaced, as well as the loss of local amenity. If SYPTE can't afford to develop the site, then it should sell it to somebody who will do so. OMG - here comes another block of flats!
