Consequences Of Brexit [Part 9] Read First Post Before Posting
altus replied to Vaati's topic in General Discussions
In our parliament, when the government submits legislation and it is rejected, it resubmits an amended version, hopefully, to address the concerns of those who voted against it the first time. The only thing different about that and the Irish Lisbon Treaty vote is that only MPs get to vote rather than the population as a whole. -
It's Easter So Are You Having A Hot Tick Bun ?
altus replied to *Wallace*'s topic in General Discussions
Iceland thanks Tory MPs for sales boost from hot cross reaction to โtickโ bun Looks like it's trebles all round in the viral marketing department. -
I'm not so bothered about the church being naive, it's what they do after all, but what on earth were the Home Office doing overriding their previous judgements about the guy because someone from a group of people known to be naively trusting says he should be allowed to stay!

Farmers Fear Food Shortages Caused By Green Schemes
altus replied to Chekhov's topic in General Discussions
If you've got a bottle of generic 'vegetable oil', rather than one that names a particular plant like 'sunflower oil', the chances are it's rapeseed oil. -
The eastern most part of Ukraine is south of Moscow (and you have to go through Belarus to get to any more western bits). Chechnya (and the North Caucasus in general) is south south east of Moscow. 'Heading towards Ukraine' = going vaguely south. Heading towards Chechnya on major roads would take you along the same route for the first few 100km.

Should Horse Riders Be Banned From Using Roads
altus replied to Grumpycatweasel's topic in General Discussions
Only if you don't consider the wear and tear of horses all travelling along the same bit of grass. -
I'd disagree with that - if someone dies wanting more things, they will have died feeling unfulfilled. For example, an egotistical DJ who owns the personalised number plate DJ 2 will always think the owner of plate DJ 1 has won, regardless of how many more toys he may have.

It's not an obsession, just an example of motorist centric road design. What's your obsession with asking questions but not answering them?
-
How many motorists "need" flared junctions?
-
By focussing road planning on the wants of motorists. Let's face it. The biggest thing slowing down motorists in built up areas is all the other motorists on the roads.
-
Again, it's about road layouts being "unnecessarily difficult" for non motorists. What's the difficulty presented to motorists by not having flared junctions? Do faired junctions provide a big enough benefit to motorists that they out way the additional difficulties they present to non motorists?
-
"not found it that difficult" and "unnecessarily difficult" aren't the same things. SheffieldForums's example of flared junctions are not that difficult if you're reasonably fit and healthy and the traffic isn't too bad but are certainly more difficult than they need to be.
-
We've had 70 years of making not driving "unnecessarily difficult". I favour redressing that balance.

They should be accessible to everyone. The problem is people have conflicting requirements and the years of focussing on one group means redressing the balance is inevitably going to mean their priority will be lower than previously. Do you think those who can reasonably, say, walk a couple of miles to work in the morning, should be encouraged to do so to improve the traffic flow for those who have got no legs/have to transport several bags of heavy tools/need to travel 40 miles to get to work? If not, what's your suggestion for improving traffic flows?
