  1. I've never been mugged, but I imagine I'd have difficulty dealing with it. For me, it would be an invasion of my person, almost like rape, rather than just the material loss. If it was just cash, that wouldn't be so bad, but if they stole something even remotely sentimental, the knowledge that they had something of mine would make me very angry.
  2. This is simply not true. Most adults today, myself included, were smacked as children, yet are perfectly normal and non-violent. It is the kids who are never punished who quickly realise they can get away with murder. And as for real violence, you only have to look at playground bullying to see that a child who gets "battered" certainly does NOT become violent. They are more likely to kill themselves than someone else. Anyway, I was not advocating "physical violence against children", or "battering" them, I was just talking about normal smacking. In fact, I was talking about the judgemental people who self-righteously say they "don't believe in smacking", hence the quotation marks.
  3. Things I hate: People who justify racism as a valid opinion. The BNP People who think it's ok to mock/insult/look down on/threaten me, simply because they think my clothes are silly. Chavs People who hate a certain social group (goths, pacifists, muslims, blacks etc) for no reason, or because of a stereotype. Before anyone points out that I just contradicted myself there, chavs are not a legitimate social group. People who don't believe in voting. Even worse is when they then complain about who they end up with. Rude bus drivers. Animal rights activists. People who go on about animal rights, and then shop at Gap. (as if human rights don't matter) Or for that matter, anyone who shops at Gap. Fashionable people. Yes, all of them. Almost all pop "music", especially R&B. Parents who can't control their kids, or who don't care. Parents who "don't believe in smacking" Teenage yobs. Disrespect for the sake of it. Religion, especially religious extremists. Anyone who talks to me about their religious beliefs as if it's the proven truth. I think that's enough for now... I'm starting to get carried away...
  4. Dying hair black is very easy to do and generally just looks... well... black, so no, I don't think it looks fake in the same way as bleached hair. My hair is naturally light blonde, and I have very fair skin, and when I used to dye my hair black it looked stunning (if I may say so myself) Touching up roots is annoying, but at least it's easier than other colours 'cos it doesn't matter if you get dye on the hair that's already dyed.
  5. The difference between "posh" and "common" is attitude. It has nothing to do with what class you are born into, or how wealthy you are, although of course there is a stereotype that many are happy to conform to. The definition of posh is being pretentious, looking down on the less privalaged, or trying to get recognised by the upper-classes. Keeping up with the Joneses. Being common is an attitude of contempt for better off people, and a disregard for common decency. The stereotypical "common" dad would tell his son who wants to be a model to "get a proper job" even though he might earn a lot in his chosen career. Although it's hard to imagine a non-working class person beong common, we do have the phenomenon of the "posh chav" - upper class kids on the cursing, binge-drinking rampage...
  6. it's usually cheaper to buy a pack of four breadcakes and a pack of grated cheese than to get 1 cheese sandwitch though
  7. I never realised they went every 10 minutes, is this new? I'm sure they only used to go about every half hour before.
  8. I'd quite like to brick Daz up in the wall...
  9. I agree, but slipknot are probably the closest thing to Lordi that Sheffdan has heard of, so I forgive him Our so-called song was an embarrasment... I've never seen such chavtastic paedophillia....
  10. I can never understand why people object to them... would they rather have a nuclear power station on their doorstep?
  11. the city itself isn't that bad, it's just the chavs and vandals who make it look a dump... and of course the buses.
  12. I think the devide is more east/west Slightly off topic, but has anyone seen this: http://www.ourproperty.co.uk/ take a look at this one: http://www.ourproperty.co.uk/search.html?street=oriel+road&locality=&town=sheffield&postcode=&mode=englandwales&tenure=&type=&fromday=01&frommonth=04&fromyear=2004&today=31&tomonth=03&toyear=2006&submit=Advanced+SEARCH
  13. Do you mean the war memorial in barker's pool? Surely it's still there?!
  14. I heard they are to assist rescuers in the event of a car crash. Most of the time, they wouldn't think to look for a small body.
  15. I've lived in sheffield all my life, and I'm proud to be a sheffielder. One half of my family (my mum's side) have always lived in the sheffield area and are working class, but I've never heard anyone say "sheffuld". I haven't heard "grennel" either, probably because I don't know anyone who lives there. IMO the notion that someone who doesn't say "sheffuld" is not a true sheffielder is definately inverse snobbery. Even the middle-class residents of sheffield are still sheffielders, just because they don't have such a strong accent doesn't make them any less entitled to call themselves sheffielders...
