Hi yes I was there the day it opened. Happy memories, Not so the travelling to get there. We didn’t have a car, so catching a bus at 7-30am and rushing down Granville rd to get the bus home. Looking at the names you mentioned Patrick Maloney and Margaret Doran, I think you could be a year or two older than me. Patrick definitely was, as Mary his sister was a year younger than me. Think Patrick was the landlord at the White Heart, on or near Solly street. Not sure of the area now, not lived in Sheffield for forty years. Mary became a nurse.

Dunkirk: 4/10 not impressed doesn't live up to the hype. would I watch it again no!! The beach scenes were not strong enough, there was supposed to be 300,000 troops waiting to be evacuated, there looked to be 3,000. Not quite old enough to remember the war but have talked to relatives in the past who do remember and were actually at Dunkirk, the film wasn't strong enough and the flotilla of small crafts sent to rescue the troops wasn't shown in the hundreds of vessels that went. To me it looks like the budget was very small, albeit it reaped in nine million on the first weekend of viewing. I was looking forward to it. Disappointing!!

I was brought up Catholic and I live in Warrington. If it's faith that killed the two boys twenty years ago and you saw the aftermath of that murderous incident I don't think you would be so clement if that's the word. The strange thing is he died within hours of the 20th Anniversary of the bombing, and let me Tell you Mr Little if you had been in Warrington that day it would be a day you would never forget. I am no longer a practising catholic not that I thought the Irish troubles were about faith anyway, and how could a faith support such murdering btds

Cunninghams Pickled Red Cabbage
schoolrdgal replied to spada573's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
Having recently retired from a Morrisons store in Newport South Wales, I was importing Cunningham products every time I visited Sheffield also Hendersons. Then it miraculously appeared on the stores shelves , I was very very pleased. Perhaps Stuart you could consider a Christmas Chutney as a starter for a new product. Mrs Bridges has an excellent one which this yeat they only produced in a small assorted chutney gift pack -
Watched it don't know if I enjoyed it. Thought it was well acted not sure if it was well portrayed. Made me squirm as I know very similar people. Sheridan Smith character was well acted, nothing to compare to the real person, if she actually was playing a friend of Shannon's mother! What I thought was how did the mother get 8 yrs when she came across as being special needs and if she actually wasn't why make out she was in the dramatisation.

I thought it was hilarious!! What I want to know is when they took the camper van out and they got a punter where were the driver and companion going to go, or were they just going to sit there!! Also the van would possibly rock from side to side a whole new take on travel sickness -
