  1. One thing is clear: the mark up on products must be huge and the confidence to seduce consumers into buying more than what they went in for enormous if it's possible to have LIDL, NETTO, Sainsburys, ASDA so close together. And these are just the supermarkets clustered in that corner; if we extend the area by less than 2 miles we could add Morrisons, ALDI, TESCO as well as smaller stores (2 ICELANDs for example).
  2. ...and fish'n'chips, but these are harder to transport (though I did once take a requested takeaway bought and frozen balti).
  3. It's a cliché but one that tends to go down well with Germans I know: proper English tea (you know what I mean), marmalade. And biscuits. As great as German supermarkets are, you rarely find Tetley's tea of Hobnobs on offer. And if you were to want to up the Sheffield angle, a bottle of Hendo's, perhaps the recently published Sheffield cookbook. Not sure how much made-in-Sheffield steel you'd get for £20.
  4. Country pubs in great settings are often better on the outside. The Plough managed to feel like a good local, despite the fact that not many of the people drinking there were local. Do they still do the magnificent chip butties as with the Plough of old? Hard to beat after a long walk and with a pint or two of Blonde to wash them down. Hard to beat after a short walk from the car park now I think about it..
