  1. Hi Worth taking a look at the Within Reach website if you haven't already, for disability sport activities - withinreach.org.uk Also sheffieldparentcarerforum.org.uk for general activities Good luck
  2. You're welcome Glad it all worked out x
  3. Just done a quick calculation and £137.14 would represent 16 days care - 4 weeks will be £240 so 16 days would be 16/28 x 240 which is near enough 137.14 That suggests your next payment will be around the end of April for the next 4 weeks. I realise it might not make sense to get payments in days but that's how they work. x
  4. Hi It may be that the first payment isn't for a full month. It will depend what day they intend to pay you in future. I manage DP for my daughter and they NEVER tell you what a payment represents. Drives me mad and I've told them several times it would help if they did but no joy. And everything takes forever to sort out but you'll get there. You could just wait and see if the next payment is what you expect but personally I'd contact them and ask. I think you'd need to ring the Direct Payments Team on 0114 2735985. Good luck and try not to worry I'm sure you'll be able to sort it. x
  5. Hi All My DD who has M/SLD is a member of All Inc Trampolining Club and they've asked me to let everybody know that there are places available for new members. The club runs trampoline sessions for children and adults with disabilities/additional needs and runs on Saturday mornings during school term times at Goals Soccer Centre on Norfolk Park Road. It's a lovely friendly club run by parents and volunteers and you can have a try out before making any commitment. Message me, email allinc@hotmail.co.uk or contact 07743 231739 for more info. 6. Thanks to all those who replied. I'm making progress with the plan now and using several different services (eggs & baskets!). Thanks for the apology, Tier. Your wording was a little unfortunate but I don't easily take offence unless it is clearly intended!
  7. You could try St Wilfrids Centre on Queens Road. More info here http://www.stwilfridscentre.org/who-and-how-we-help/welfare-services You could also look on the Help yourself databse - http://www.sheffieldhelpyourself.org.uk which has lists of all sorts of groups and organisations - there should be a category for mental health Good luck - I'm sure you will find the right help if you keep trying
  8. No. I think it's safe to say it is NOT a fair assessment. There is a lot of campaigning going on about it and even the British Medical Association have said it's not fit for purpose. It seems the main aim is to get as many people off ESA as possible. I haven't been to an assessment but I've been researching as my 18yo LD daughter will need to apply for ESA soon There's a website http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk that seems well thought of. I get their newsletter and they have guides and advice for applying for all the main disability benefits and assessments. There is an annual subscription (about £20). I haven't joined but intend to as soon as I need the guides. Also, if you register for newsletters you usually get a discount code making subscription a bit cheaper. Even if you decide that's not for you, I would recommend you do some research into the assessment so you are as prepared as you can be. Sorry if this sounds like scaremongering, but I've read some dreadful reports of these assessments
  9. Sorry Douglas - only just seen your post. Thanks for your interest. The centre are usually wanting volunteers - best thing is to give them a ring on 2555720 and speak to Steve Corker who coordinates volunteers. I'm sure you'd be very welcome!
  10. Has anybody used Dimensions, Citizenship 1st, My Choice Local or Bridgepole and can give me feedback on the service and quality of workers? I'm looking for support for my 18yo daughter who has Down's Syndrome. It's my first foray into adult services and support planning so I really want to get this right for her Thanks
  11. Those figures from crisis show a pretty significant increase in rough sleeping across the UK & there's no reason to expect Sheffield to buck the trend. I volunteer at http://www.stwilfridscentre.org/ and the reasons for homelessness can be different in each case and are usually far more complicated than just poverty or addiction. When you talk to people and learn their stories you find that it often takes only a couple of bad choices or strokes of bad luck to take them off track. In many cases it is a result of mental health issues or learning difficulties. Helping someone with a handout or shelter for the night is good but it doesn't address the cause. At the centre we are trying to raise money to build a residential unit where homeless people would be given accommodation for up to two years during which time they would be supported to learn life & independence skills and finally helped to find permanent accommodation. It's a really worthwhile project - you can read more about it here http://www.stwilfridscentre.org/residential-project and maybe even support it with a donation?
