  1. Derek French - based on Ecclesall Road - He used to work with Sheff United players. He's really good. There's no whale music or chimes. It's proper sports massage. http://www.derekfrench.co.uk/
  2. Millhouses is nice but if you want to be closer to a bigger range of cafes, shops etc I'd also look round Netheredge & Hunters Bar.. Nether Green is also nice (near Endcliffe Park), Brincliffe is sort of between NetherEdge and Hunters Bar (ends at Psalter Lane) so you can easily walk to shops/cafes around Netheredge crossroads and those on sharrowvale rd ((which are particularly good) too. And more in the thick of things but still close to green spaces are places like Southgrove road and the street nearby as they are off ecclesall road but back on to the Botanical Gardens and the houses are huge. Southgrove Rd Particular has a really nice community thing going. Basically I'd search in S7 (Netheredge, millhouses) , S11 and S10 looking at proximity to roads like Psalter Lane, Abbydale, Ecclesall Rd, Sharrovale Rd and parks like millhouses, Endcliffe and the Botanical Gardens.
  3. We looked into this. The developer has stated on a different project - probably more profitable. Hopefully, once that's done they'll return to the Vine
  4. Not a Sheffield firm I'm afraid by Blinds 4 You online is excellent. You can get any type of blind you fancy and the range of materials/colours is excellent. You do need to measure and fit yourself but we managed no problem and it was significantly cheaper than getting someone else to do it. We opted for wooden blinds cos they look like wooden shutters at a fraction of the cost!
  5. Have you ever been on BBC Radio Sheffield? We're celebrating it's 50th Birthday in November and we'd love to hear from you if you've ever called in on a story or been interviewed by a reporter or presenter. You might have spoken to us about a big local story like the Tinsley Towers being demolished, the 1980 steel workers strike, the filling of the hole in the road or the opening of Meadowhall.. You might have been stopped by a reporter at school or college on O-level or GSCE results day.. Maybe you called the station to tell us about something happening where you live.. Or you were getting married at the Wedding Cake the day before it finally closed and we spoke to you then. Whatever the reason, if you've spoken to us in the last 50 years, let us know. You can reply to this thread or you can email us on radio.sheffield@bbc.co.uk. Please put 50TH BIRTHDAY in the subject field.
  6. Netheredge Garage.... Really reasonable. Charged under £300 for what the dealer wanted £700 for!
  7. Hi Testpass, Katherine from BBC Radio Sheffield here. I'm interested in the issues raised by your post. If you want to talk just drop me an email. katherine.cowan@bbc.co.uk
  8. Hi there, Sorry to bother you again. Just wanted to check if you'd got my message. We'd be really keen to talk about the future of Hambleton house if you're interested. It's such a huge and iconic building and judging from some of the responses to your post there'll be other people upset to hear that someone wants to knock it down. COuld you let me know either way? Yours, Katherine Cowan 0114 2675 461 07787 162 777 katherine.cowan@bbc.co.uk
  9. If he sounds like a Geordie then it's all kosher. We've been buying fish from him now for about a year and it's excellent. Great quality and a decent price for the amount you get. Must admit though the first time he knocked on our door I was suspicious. Made my mum check through the entire box to make sure there wasn't just fish on top and empty trays on the bottom. But I needn't have worried. He comes round every couple of monthes and calls ahead so we know to clear some space in the freezer. Keeps us in fish til the next time he calls.
  10. Hi Lisalashes, Thanks for your post. I definitely want to explore the positive aspects of personalised budgets. The people I've spoken to say like you have, that many people benefit from the different ways they can use their budgets. They do say though that the system creates extra work for social workers with already extremely heavy workloads. And of course that's only compounded if posts go. My understanding of the situation for people on benefits is this: That there are some people on DLA who understandably view it as part of their income. Because DLA is supposed to be used in part to pay for care etc when someone on DLA goes through a financial assessment for a personal budget the DLA is taken into account and so people who previously wouldn't have had to pay for a service find themselves having to pay a significant portion of their DLA. It's not necessarily a huge amount but it can come as a shock to people who've got used to living on very little and then who are asked to part with some of that in order to get care they used to get for free. Of course there are people who will pay very little and people who've subject to a section 3 order who don't pay anything. That's what I've been told anyway. Please do though get in touch if what I've been told isn't wrong! katherine.cowan@bbc.co.uk
  11. Hi David, Sorry if I wasn't clear enough in my first post. I'm a reporter at BBC Radio Sheffield. I've been told that there might be issues with the system of personalised budgets by people who work within it, and so obviously they can't go on the record. I want to know if anyone on who's been through the system themselves recognises the problems I've mentioned (or any others). If they have and they'd be willing to talk about it on the record that'd be great but at the moment I've just looking for more information. Of course it might not be a story at all!
  12. Hi Jimmy, The information I have had comes from people working within social services. They tell me that although they were initially very excited about their clients getting personalised budgets since then they've noticed some serious issues especially the amount of time it takes to process applications and the fact hat some people on low incomes are expected to contribute what to them is a large amount towards their care. I would however welcome any information anyone can give me. If you think I am totally barking up the wrong tree then please get in touch.
  13. I have loads of problems with my shoulders and have seen a hell of a lot of sports massage people and the absolute best is Derek French. He works for Sheffield United too, sorting out the players aches and pains and he genuinely gives the best sports massage ever. I've tried other 'renound' people and keep going back to Derek. He works at Active Health on Ecclesall Road (opposite Starbucks) and is Google-able.
  14. It's been a while now since people requiring social care for mental health issues were given a personalised budget that they can use to pay for that care. I know some people are really happy with the new system as it allows people to use the budget to pay for things that they wouldn't have previously been able to access without dipping into their own pockets. But I also understand that as well as having your needs assessed, everyone is subject to a financial assesment and in some cases people on low incomes (ie DLA) are being expected to contribute a significant amount to their own care. I've heard of cases of people refusing care because they simply can't afford the top ups. If you've had either a positive or negative experience of personalised budgets or SDS for mental health I'd be interested in talking to you. I work at BBC Radio Sheffield and my email address is katherine.cowan@bbc.co.uk
  15. Even if you don't want to go on the radio it'd be good to get an idea of how common a problem this is and the areas that are being targetted
