  2. I don't know whether you are male or female, Rustadude98, but it could be worth you contacting WiCAT (Women in Construction, the Arts and Technology), based in Burngreave. http://www.wicat.org.uk Most (though not all) of their courses are for women only, but they certainly cover vehicle maintenance. In fact, there is a vehicle maintenance course planned for June 2013.
  3. Or ... log on to http://www.washerhelp.co.uk and find out how you may be able to fix it yourself. This fantastic website is run by a washing machine repairman of 30 years experience. What he doesn't know about washing machines isn't worth knowing.
  4. You'll be lucky to find material for sale at retail prices in Sheffield, never mind wholesale! Try upstairs at The Emporium, Clyde Road (off Broadfield Road), Heeley. They have remnants of some fantastic dress materials at madly reduced prices - most of them better than wholesale.
  5. Hi Beckelina, Just back from my Easter break. I will see you in the garden at 6pm tomorrow (Wednesday 26th). Looking forward to meeting you. M
  6. Hello Beckalina I'm glad you put the notice up on site, as I don't often get time to logon to the Forum and hadn't seen these posts. It's great to see that someone else is at last showing some interest in the top field (as we call it). My husband and myself, plus a couple of neighbours, have been trying to look after the green space for about a year now. We've tidied away dumped rubbish, empty booze bottles, pop cans, old condoms, empty fag packets, discarded lighters, crisp packets, etc, even the odd syringe. All this filth being generated by two-legged creatures (not the four-legged variety). We own a dog, as do our neighbours, and regularly take her down to the top field for a play, but always, always, pick up after her. In fact, I usually have a scout round for any other poo that has been left by unsupervised dogs (or uncivilised owners) and pick that up too. Because I think it's disgusting to leave dog poo in an area where people like to sit, walk or play. We have taken down our secateurs and pruned (albeit not very impressively, as it's a large area) and mended broken lathes in the fencing. Several months ago I went through the same frustrating search that you are currently experiencing, to find out who is responsible for this area's upkeep. And I'm pleased to say that I was able to get the Council to come down and do the major pruning and tidying works that happened towards the end of last year. I must admit, I wasn't expecting it to be as savage a pruning as it turned out to be, but the workmen said that the Council has a policy of getting rid of overhanging trees and dense shrubbery that might provide a hiding place for lurkers, up to no good. For our trouble, we have been abused by people who never lift a finger to maintain the space, as they see us with our dog and think we are fair game to take the blame for the irresponsible dog owners who don't pick up after their dogs and soil the top field. I have just contacted the Council again, and they have agreed to send a couple of guys over to do some more tidying up, after Easter. They will put weed killer on the weeds that have overgrown the pathways (non-toxic weed killer) and look at the gate to see if it is possible to add a sprung hinge, so as to stop unsupervised animals getting in or kids leaving the gate open on the way out. Another way that unsupervised dogs and cats get in is by squeezing under the wooden fencing, so the Council will look at elongating the fence lathes. I have also asked them to put up a sign, instructing dog owners to pick up after their dogs. I would jump at the chance to meet with you, Beckalina. It would be fantastic to get some planting going and, more importantly, a system of management for the top field. So that not only the glamourous stuff, but the boring stuff (like weeding, repairing and tidying) can be shared by all those who have expressed an interest since you started this thread. I'm away over Easter, but will look on the Forum when I get back and hope to be able to make whatever date you arrange. Looking forward to meeting you.
  7. That's a point! If that were the case, would you still expect that orange light when charging?
  8. I can see what you mean Esme, but (although I'm no phone expert so could be wrong) I don't think that is the reason. Simply because the phone isn't that old - just old to me. It's the one I had on contract the year before last. Also, it started life on the 3 network and was then changed to Vodaphone, if that's relevant. The phone won't turn on. However, when you plug it into the charger, the screen on the front of the flip-up lid glows orange. That suggests to me it is receiving the charge. Thanks for your input Esme. All suggestions welcome.
  9. I gave my 12 year old nephew my old LG mobile, but it has recently stopped working. Probably due to him dropping it though, of course, he denies all knowledge of having done so! He cannot afford a new one and I can't afford a replacement for him. Does anyone know of a good, reasonably priced mobile phone repairer, now that Marketman has retired?
