  1. The thing I was told about HS2 is the biggest error is in the name...It was called High Speed because it sounds flash but actually the rationale has little to do with speed its more to do with capacity.... The current infrastructure doesnt allow a significant increase in capacity for either freight or passengers. If (for environmental reasons) we want more lorries off the road then we are going to have to build more rail capacity and it makes sense to do the new one at high speed for passengers and use the freed up capacity for more freight... I was actually aginst HS2 on the basis of env damage but when put in this light it seems that it might well have loinger term env benefits , the UKs dependency on road freight is ridiculous and highly inefficient.

  7. Really? What are you on about? The bus was chugging like a clown car. He did the right thing. We need more people like this to take a stand. Several 4x4s and lorries are equally bad
  8. Free Sheffield history event at uni on 1st December. FREE ENTRY GENERAL PUBLIC WELCOME https://sites.google.com/sheffield.ac.uk/shrg/on-the-streets-program
  9. its a pretty horrible opinion that shows his conflicts of interests----all for opinions being voiced but when in public office they have to be balanced and appropriate
  10. Im sure many have seen the recent horrible comments by Councillor Neale Gibson about the Pret a MAnger sandwich which killed a girl? TOby Foster suggested he shoudl be sacked! Basically Gibson suggested that the girls death was her own fault rather than poor labeling practices at Pret a Manger. While I think people with allergies do generally take repsosbilities for what they eat I thought it was outrageous that A councillor would use the death of a young girl to push his own business interests (he works inthe food industry it seems)....Not only that but he seems to have been a long time supporter of PRet a Manger (see here https://www.thestar.co.uk/business/pret-a-manger-to-give-away-hundreds-of-free-lunches-in-sheffield-1-8838765)...His latest outspoken nonsense though is even out of line with Pret a Amnger themsleves as they have taken responsibility...... How can he get away with such a callous attitude---especially when he is responsible for ensuring food safety and healthy living in our city.....Im with Toby FOster on this one---I think he should go.. I dont think an apology is enough https://www.thestar.co.uk/our-towns-and-cities/sheffield/councillor-apologises-for-extremely-insensitive-comments-1-9385607
  11. I know trees have become a Sheffield issue but what oh what is going on in Fitzalan square? Why are they chopping them down this morning? Madness---the only bit of real greenery in the area....are SCC mad?
  12. This is very much worth signing as it might actually stay a much needed debate over what is otherwise a secret pfi corporate take over of the council and our streets https://www.change.org/p/petition-to-rescind-the-streets-ahead-pfi-contract-with-amey-hallam-highways-ltd?recruiter=403923024&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=share_petition

  14. Sounds like the OP should read the daily mail less..... Is a really arrogant post which carries with it the sentiment that cyclists are wrong and if they get hit it is their fault.... I hope when they hit one the police find this thread and use it as evidence to show the ingrained intolerance the OP has against cyclists. Such intolerance kills people and pre-planned arrogance on the road may well result in murder
