  1. Knife crime peaked in 2019 and is back on the increase. Last year 42 young people were killed due to knife crime, that compared to 20 killed 10 years ago. https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/sn04304/
  2. Is it becoming normal? The arrested male is 19 years old, more crime committed by young people, too much screen time and not enough real life?
  3. Have the UK MPs voted on this issue, I dont recall?
  4. Income tax, the top rate is set at 45% The rich can pay less tax, because they dont pay income tax, they pay lower rates in capital gains tax. Its not easy to tax the rich, but we can do better, Labour will do better, the Tories are looking after the people that fund their party. If we taxed domestic high energy use ate 20%, the richer households with large houses would pay more.
  5. Yes, actually. Dont you remember the card that they would put through your letterbox if you werent home?
  6. Old crimes, rather pointless and wrong to investigate them? I cannot remember what I did last week, so how can a person defend themselves of a crime that was alledged to have happened 5+ years ago? Ms Rayner has denied any wrongdoing relating to where she was registered as living after her marriage in 2010. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68677343 Conservative MP for Harwich & North Essex, Sir Bernard Jenkin, was alleged to have attended an event on the Parliamentary estate in December 2020. Presenter Nicky Campbell said he wept in his wife's arms after a sheriff found a private school teacher abused him and others over a 20-year period. John Brownlee beat students at Edinburgh Academy with wooden bats and pushed one boy down a flight of stairs during a campaign of physical violence. Victims described the teacher, now 89, as a "psychopath" and a "sadist".
  7. I guy would come round and read your meter every so often, I wonder how much that would cost your supplier?
  8. I guess if it's in the media it must be true? Apparently the Irish are having similar issues with their water. ways, their brexit rules are totally different to ours. Nithing to do with greedy private companies either, in Ireland the water companies are state run. Poorly regulated by the government would be my guess. I hope I havn't strayed off topic?
  9. We have become a very diverse country.
  10. I am listening to radio four, about the thousands/millions of Chineese products coming into the country, lots of scams and products worth £25 selling for £200 because of fake advertising. Is this a change from pre-Brexit, probably not, but it should be stopped. https://www.scmp.com/news/china/article/3253916/us-consumers-face-safety-risks-chinese-goods-flood-country-congressional-panel-hears Keep on topic please, sewage in rivers should be in the Conservative party thread! Not only is there no edit function, other sites have spell checkers, but not this one!
  11. You could compare a battery being replaced every 10 years to a bloke in a van coming to read your meter twice per year, every year!
  12. To answer the original question, it is perhaps a tax on the traditional family, but more important, its a fixed tax on the poor, a tax not paid at private schools. The wealthy dont care about a £120 fine, but its a lot of money to the poor.
  13. Or even just upgraded. Good story though, New Scientist too
  14. But they have got 9 years to replace all the old smart meters, no problem.
